I bought this laptop during the Black Friday Deals Week.

The box contained the laptop, a user manual, and the power brick/cord. It doesn't come with Restore Media, but you can make it with three 4.7GB DVDs. The first thing I noticed was the big screen which has a really nice resolution and it's really bright. They keyboard is full size, and has a full numeric keypad on the right. The touch pad is centered under the spacebar, so therefore it's a little more to the left than my previous laptop was. The speakers are so-so, there isn't much bass and it's not as loud as my last laptop. I haven't taken the laptop anywhere yet, so I can't comment on the battery life. It comes preloaded with several Toshiba applications, Norton Internet Security, Wild Tangent Games and a few other things. It didn't have as much bloatware as I thought it would. Windows 8 is hit or miss, depending on if you are old school (like me) or like the tablet style interface. I installed a program called "Classic Shell" and it puts the start button back on the desktop and makes it act like Windows 7.

I think the laptop is fast and I'm satisfied with its performance. Obviously it won't match the performance of a $1,000 laptop, but I think for the money it's a good value. (especially at the Black Friday Price of $309)

The Windows Index Scores are:
Processor: 6.3
Memory (RAM): 5.9
Graphics: 4.4
Gaming Graphics: 6.0
Primary Hard Disk: 5.9

I bought this laptop because it was the cheapest 17 inch laptop that I could find. I'm a fan of big screens but not a fan of big prices. I knew it was too good to be true. When I first took it out of the box the mouse touchpad didn't work at all. I was able to navigate startup/setup with the keyboard. When I finally got into the main screen after startup I couldn't do anything without a mouse so I plugged a separate mouse in. I went into the mouse settings for the touchepad mouse built into the computer and it said it was disabled. Why and How would a brand new laptop have it's mouse disabled? I went to the Toshiba website and downloaded all the drivers for this laptop...long story short I read other reviews all over the internet of people having the same problems. If it was just the mouse I think I might have MAYBE just learned how to get by with a mouse plugged in but then the keyboard starting shorting out. Literally I would start typing and then it would just randomly stop responding. Any key I touched just wouldn't respond.

I probably restarted the computer about 50 times in the one day that I owned this laptop trying to do updates and fixes to the problems I was having. In the end I just had to return it because it was having problems that were unfixable. The mouse never worked (and yes I did try pushing the lock and unlock mouse button so it wasn't that) and the keyboard got so bad that a couple times when I restarted it it wouldn't work at all. I ended up getting different laptop that is 10000 times better than this one. I really recommend this laptop: http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-IdeaPad-15-6-Inch-Laptop-59406417/dp/B00HIYA4F2/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t
Yes it's smaller and costs more but it is so worth it. I will never buy another Toshiba laptop again after that fiasco. Avoid a major headache and STAY AWAY from this Toshiba laptop.

I purchased this model 15 months ago. It was my second Toshiba Satellite. The first one needed a new harddrive after one year; I thought it a fluke. This one the monitor went out which costs more to repair then the unit is worth and the harddrive seems to be struggling. Of course, the warranty was up at 12 months. Toshiba used to put out great products and I was a huge fan and proponent. Now, I will not EVER buy another Toshiba product again. Buyer beware-caviat emptor! Most of their components are now made in China. I am SUPER careful with all of my goods. This is defective stuff. As my headline said, save your money and buy another brand. I also agree that their customer service is inaccessible and worthless. Too bad.

This laptop has been nothing but a pain after purchasing it! First it has delayed audio thus if you want to watch a video it will take forever to start hearing any sound upon starting the video and if you pause the video at any point, it will take a while for it to resume properly. The wireless card also doesn't seem to be very good. Occasionally I have a hard time connecting to my internet at home, while another laptop works perfectly. This is also the case for public wifi. The mute button also does not work. The battery and adapter had to be replaced within a year and half.
