My son asked me to select a laptop in his price range that would be suitable for college classwork. Toshiba has a better reputation than most for problems out of the box and frequency of repair. He doesn't plan to use it for intensive graphics work or for hi-fidelity sound reproduction, so nothing is lost with the absence of a discrete video card or high-end speakers. This computer is light, easy to carry, and has an excellent battery life due to its Intel i3 processor. The 320GB hard disk and 4GB of RAM should be more than adequate for normal business apps and presentation software. The TruBrite screen has acceptable visibility in daylight. The product was delivered promptly and arrived in excellent condition. My son feels he got much greater value than he expected for the modest price he paid ($550). If you don't create and/or collect a lot of media files, don't plan to play high-end games, and can live with speakers that sound somewhat tinny, this laptop is a good choice at a good price.

Worthy of the money spent. Latest processor, memory, and operating system. Tried to build this computer from the Toshiba website, and could not match this price. Most laptops in this price range, offer out dated processors, and the ddr2 memory, or the old windows os. I3 processor, DDR3 memory, and Windows 7! Finding all that in a package as beautiful as this Toshiba for less than $600 is next to impossible (at the time of this writing). The 10 key is also a plus. This is my 2nd Toshiba, and I have had a good experience with both. My only complaint is that the hard drive is rated at 5400 rpm and not 7200. Meets all my current needs.

I have the Toshiba Satellite L505. It's the first laptop I've had and I really like it and especially like Windows 7. However, I bought mine at Best Buy for $525, so I saved quite a bit at Best Buy than if I had gotten it through Amazon.

Fully satisfied ! Not a fancy laptop but 100% reliable. It works as expected. Boots in 40 seconds or less. The only negative point is speakers. Sound is horrible, get external speakers or connect it to a stereo system

Booted the new laptop a couple of hours back. The Speakers are awful and almost a whisper. You just cannot use it for any kind of music playback or watching video on the web. Forget about Skype calls. Initially I saw one or two reviews that talked about poor sound. I thought this was live'able for me. But others were right. I tried to go through the Windows 7 - features video from Microsoft site and I could barely hear the sound. That is when I found the speakers do not work. Do not know if I will keep this laptop. I really do not like the Widescreen and wide keyboard. my personal liking - though most of the laptops these days seem to be widescreen. For the CPU speed and other features, it was a good buy for $564. But speakers is key for me. Also have not seen the face recognition SW pop-up yet. I setup a user the normal old fashioned way. In an earlier lenova I had purchased, the face recognition started right at boot though the LCD had major problems because of which I had to return. But yes Toshiba is the only brand I will consider buying.
-- Called Toshiba Tech Support. It took 20 min to get through on the phone that too only after I was connected via the online store Customer Rep of this Electronics store chain where I bough this a couple of days back. The Tech Support asked that I uninstall the realtek speaker drivers and re-install. That did not help. So asked that I restore the laptop to factory settings. i.e. format the computer. that took 2 hrs. no luck so far. same lousy speakers. Called the store customer service, they are giving a hard time to even return this laptop. Looking at other options. While researching other Toshiba models with similar CPU processor, found the 3037 model also has the same speaker problems. Search here in Amazon for those reviews before deciding. -- Update. Had disputed the credit card transaction for the 15% restocking fee charged as Credit Card company was supportive right from my initial buy from Frys. However online merchant responded back to CC that I had refused technical support from Toshiba and had returned the product!! Bunch of lies as I have a Toshiba Incident/Case# to prove and really surprising was the store Customer Service were the ones who connected me to Toshiba Tech Support. Anyway this is a learning to not make purchases from stores that are very inflexible with Returns!

Problems with booting up,
This review is from: Toshiba Satellite L505-GS5035 TruBrite 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers)
I bought my laptop about 1 month before going to college. It worked perfectly then, but after coming to college the laptop has stopped working. The first time it was in sleep mode and when I came back to turn it on it wouldnt turn on. I pressed the power button, I did the thing with removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds and still nothing. 8 hours later I try to turn it on and it does. A couple days later it has done the same thing except this time its not turning on. I am not sure if its a problem with the hardrive or if its only applicable to my computer but this should not be happening. Also, the speakers do suck if you are going to listen to music or anything, there is absolutely no base and the volume is very low. It also gathers a lot of dust and smudges all over. But otherwise everything is awesome, if it only it would turn on!

Awful speakers, tiny sound, no depth - can't hear it with any other noise in the background - not even with the AC running!!!!! If you need a laptop for anything that involves listening to sounds (playing music, DVDs, audiobooks, using Skype...), forget about it. And the customer service is crap. Simply return it before it's too late.

At 115.6 inches diagonal the screen is 7.5 feet wide by 6 feet high. It's just not convenient to use as a laptop at this size. Instead of being able to use it on the plane, they made me check it and pay an oversize baggage fee. On a positive note, it's great for my friend who is visually impaired. The built in keyboard is a monstrosity, but he hooked up a wireless keyboard and mouse and he can really see this screen. If you order this, be forewarned that you'll need some help getting it into the house when it arrives.
