5.0 out of 5 stars Best Laptop To Date
Out of the box this unit worked flawlessly. This is the most attractive notebook I've ever owned. Someone across the room heard a music video I was watching and said "that computer has great sound." It is great to have my numeric keypad back for crunching numbers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer beware!
I am a fan of Toshiba and have owned seven different Toshiba products. I even recommend them to my family members. I was happy with Toshiba until they refused to fix my laptop. I bought this laptop brand new from Best Buy and hooked it up to an external montior and the computer would crash. So I bought a brand new monitor and the same thing happened. I checked my computer...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Laptop To Date, January 30, 2010

This review is from: Toshiba Satellite L555D-S7005 TruBrite 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers)
Out of the box this unit worked flawlessly. This is the most attractive notebook I've ever owned. Someone across the room heard a music video I was watching and said "that computer has great sound." It is great to have my numeric keypad back for crunching numbers.

Mobile broadband and 16GB flash drive USBs worked as expected. So did WiFi and a hardwired network. The 17.3" video is just awesome. This is my second, larger, notebook and I'll never go smaller again.

Very satisfied, great price and fast, free shipping from Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly a Best Buy, February 24, 2010
This review is from: Toshiba Satellite L555D-S7005 TruBrite 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers)
But not from Best Buy. My other laptop suffered some kind of disease and we're away from home, so I opted for a "cheap" replacement. 4 gigs of Ram (!!) and room for 4 more and a 320 gig hard drive are among the things that make this an outstanding buy. It's BIG - and that's either it's strength, if you want a big screen and full size keyboard AND keypad; or it's weakness if you like small........

I'm a great fan of Amazon, but before you buy this gem, you might want to run over to your nearest Office Depot - it's currently on sale for about a hundred bucks less........

4.0 out of 5 stars Great laptop for an awesome price, February 5, 2010

This review is from: Toshiba Satellite L555D-S7005 TruBrite 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers)
This laptop has impressed me so far. Not only is it inexpensive, but it seems solidly built. It is very quiet. The screen is huge and looks great. It is powerfully enough for all of my home PC needs. The only 2 negatives are the weak sound quality (not unexpected in a laptop) and the touchpad buttons, which make a noticeable clicking noise when you press them. If you can live with those minor annoyances, I recommend considering this laptop for your home PC.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great light & large screen laptop for a reasonable price, March 1, 2010
This review is from: Toshiba Satellite L555D-S7005 TruBrite 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers)
I was first looking at smaller sub-notebooks in the 11.6" - 12.1" screen range. However, after trying that size out in a store, I realized 12" was an incredibly small screen. This laptop's screen is amazing. The size is perfect, the brightness is excellent, and the colors are vivid. Windows 7 Home Premium runs very well (you can tell the AMD dual-core processor helps with multi-tasking). Incredibly, even with a 17.3" screen, the laptop is very light and portable. The full keyboard with numeric pad is a great addition.

The only downside to the laptop is that it does not include HDMI out. This was disappointing considering that the screen is an HD display. It does, however, include VGA out, plenty of USB ports, memory card slot, and an SATA port.

If you are looking for a budget friendly large screen laptop, I would certainly suggest the Toshiba L555D-S7005. Also, there is a similar size/processor Gateway laptop in the same price range. However, before deciding on the Gateway, you should compare the customer service and warranties between Toshiba and Gateway. Toshiba definitely wins in this category. Gateway was bought out by Acer in 2007 and they are still getting their act together internally.

Great screen for viewing videos and site at 1600 by 900 resolution. May be a bit of a magnet for fingerprints but still a fast and great looking machine with plenty of RAM and CPU to run pretty much anything.

I checked my computer with three other external monitors and it still crashed. After trying to fix it twice and re-imaging my whole computer, the problem was still not fixed. Both techicans acknowledged the problem and tried to fix it. The customer service representative, Andrea, told me, it was my problem, when I hook up anything to the laptop. The Geek squad at Best Buy and Acer technican said that Toshiba should fix the problem. I even offered to buy a Toshiba extrernal monitor and she said it is still not their problem. So be beware, if a USB port, electrical port, external monitor port or headphone jack is broken, it is up to you to fix it, even if it is brand new!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice laptop, May 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toshiba Satellite L555D-S7005 TruBrite 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers)
Just as advertised, this is a nice laptop. Beautiful large screen, fast, and no issues so far. The only things I would nit-pick about is that the keyboard keys have a sort of cheap plastic look & feel to them. Especially as compared to my work-supplied Dell laptop. It was a bit annoying that the supplied Norton antivirus was only a 30 day trial subscription. But of course that was as advertised as well. But for the money I am satisfied with this laptop.

Received this item quickly. I was able to transfer everything from the old computer and get up and running without problems. The keyboard is closer to, if not standard sized, much better than my previous laptop. The number pad is also a great addition. This is a solid computer.

Love this laptop, great options built into it with Scopes ability. Love the size of the screen to watch movies. Price beats all others in the retail market.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointed..but good outweighs the bad by a little., August 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toshiba Satellite L555D-S7005 TruBrite 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers)
Well, I bought this laptop with some spare cash I had received, hoping to have a better more faster laptop for my work and play on the internet, and for the price I paid ($590 including shipping) I can say that this was a bit of a let down. First things first: the speakers are TERRIBAD. Seriously, I think Toshiba made a deal with the 99 cents store, because these speakers have the same quality as a pair of headphones from there. The last Toshiba laptop I had had way better speakers; their only downfall was their low volume. Second: for the first couple of weeks, this thing ran hot....not to the point of boiling, but it got pretty warm in the most noticeable place: near the touchpad. This got a little uncomfortable at times and actually made me a little worried, but over time, the heat isn't very noticeable anymore. Third: I seem to be getting a BSOD every 2 1/2 weeks out of nowhere while watching YouTube videos, but this could just be a bad memory issue.

Ok that's enough of the bad side of this machine, now lets look at the positives: It's fast (Turion X2 dual-core + 4GB of DDR2 RAM = Pretty decent performance), the screen is very nice for watching videos and DVD'S, The keyboard is nicely laid out, it runs Windows 7 (a very big plus IMO), and it sports a good integrated graphics set for some good light gaming. Overall I'm happy with this laptop, but after a couple of weeks, I noticed I could have bought a better laptop from their website for only about $40 more (Phenom X2 quad-core and 4GB of DDR3 RAM. I totally missed out). Bottom line: shop at the manufacturers websites first before going on Amazon. You might find a better deal there (and a better setup).
