I use my laptop for professional programming and IT work. I absolutely love this laptop! It is wide because of the number key however this makes plenty of room on the desktop. It is wide screen display, resolution 768 x 1366 which other reviewers have said is a bad thing however I think that it is a great resolution. This laptop is fast and is loaded. The HD screen is crisp and clear, the sound is wonderful for a computer.

The only down side I can think of is it shows all fingerprints, but unless your OCD then it shouldn't be an issue.

I have done a lot of research on buying this laptop and believe me for the price the Toshiba line is top dog. Don't waste your money on a Dell, they are flimsy terribly built and are loaded with technical issues.

This is my third toshiba laptop in about 3 weeks. The first 2 were Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4036 LED TruBrite 14-Inch Laptop (Black) from Amazon. I sent them both back because the fan wouldn't stop running at 98%. I'm delighted that this one has a working fan. Even when I encoded some videos and the CPU was at 100% usage, the fan only went up to 65% speed. Getting it from [...], it cost a bit more than the machine I wanted originally, but the 15.6" screen and faster processor make it worthwhile. If someone were to compare a L645D-S4036 and a L655-S5065 side-by-side, it would be hard not to choose the 15.6 intel CPU laptop, I think. I may be imagining it, but windows pop open noticeably faster on this laptop to give one example of the speed difference.

Some other positives about this laptop include speakers that are reasonably loud. It isn't hifi but I wouldn't expect it in a Toshiba at this price anyway. It also seems sturdier than the 14" sibling. For example, I can open the lid on this with one hand without having to hold down the keyboard with the other hand.

I would give it 5 stars but for 2 reasons. First, I do not like the glossy keys; they're slippery & hard to type on. But the main problem is the battery. It's supposedly brand-new, but Toshiba's PC Health Monitor shows battery health is only "Fair". I checked the battery health after the laptop abruptly shut down with no warning; one minute, it was showing an hour of charge left on the battery, and the next minute it shuts down, and the battery light never blinked as far as I could tell.

After talking to 4 people with Toshiba customer support, I ordered a battery replacement from Toshiba. I don't get charged anything, but they put a hold on my credit card until I send back the old battery. I've since discovered that this problem is not unique to this model. If you're willing to take a chance on Toshiba quality, I can recommend this machine. Of course, I've only had it for a couple of days, but with all the difficulties I've experienced already I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I received a new battery from Toshiba, and it works properly. So basically no more complaints about computer performance.

I'm actually a MAC user but had to get a pc for work related software use and after searching throughly and extensively to get the best laptop I could find for the buck, performance and efficiency, I've decided to go with this Toshiba L655, i3. I'm am super happy with it and very glad that I got this make and model. It is also much lighter than I thought. I love the new windows 7 premium with all its new features and the new i3 technology makes super fast processing speed work in great harmony with one another. The numeric keypad is always a plus for me, especially in my line of work.

I originally set a 500$ limit to buying a laptop and I was originally considering getting the L655-S5058 but noticed that L655-S5078 was available with i3 350M dual-core for 50 dollars more which I ended up purchasing. This is most definitely the best laptop you could get for the buck with all its features.

One thing I dislike about the Toshiba computers is that they work with Symantec company aka NORTON anti-virus all of which comes pre-loaded with Toshiba laptops. It slows down your computer a lot. In fact, it is the worst one in the market and not even a good anti-virus program so I immediately uninstalled NORTON before even starting my free trial with them and uploaded VIPRE for cheaper price and faster than any other Virus program available in the market as for now. Uninstall NORTON upon receiving the laptop and you'll experience optimum processing speed for this already fast laptop.

Amazon also had the best price for this computer. I know because I checked every other site and pricing out there and when you include shipping and tax, AMAZON is always the cheaper option.

Unfortunately, I was unlucky when it came to this Toshiba laptop. Although lovely with an easy-to-use keyboard, and loaded with features, the first laptop had a sound problem, among other issues. When the initial tech support person (I spoke with three plus a supervisor:total time 78 minutes) asked me to play a C.D. and hold the phone next to the speaker slot on the laptop, then said HE could hear it, I knew I was in trouble. Amazon.com was extremely helpful as always. They offered to speak to Toshiba to mediate, but I decided to risk a second model. This one also had some problems, and the "senior" tech support man who assisted me said I needed Windows 7 Professional, especially to resolve my transferring-info-from-Windows XP issues. Thank goodness Microsoft refunded the $90.55 for the program I did not need. All told, I chose Toshiba based upon the features, plus it was rated by Consumer Reports (2010) as having the least repair problems and the best technical support. This was not the case for me. I am considering a Dell, as my seven year-old Dell desktop is still running (albeit slow). The upside in these experiences is that Amazon.com was as understanding and helpful as always. After visiting Best Buy and other local retailers for a new computer, I am convinced that buying from Amazon.com is the very best choice...so I will...

My first Toshiba laptop bought on 2004 was a mini tank (still working), so i decided to look for another one after a very dissapointing experience with HP. I've been trying the Satellite L655 for about 3 weeks and i must say that almost everything is just as described on the product description, my only complaint is about the sound, thats the reason im not giving 5 stars. in fact, the sound card is great, if you connect headphones or an amplifier with external speakers it sounds awesome... but the built-on speakers are poor... well lets say "acceptable", sorry.

Anyway it is a fast machine, nice keyboard, great wifi range, windows 7 works just fine (better than vista), very low noise fan and the webcam is ok. no problems, hangs, blue screens or performance issues so far, very good choice for price-performance relation, you get what you read.
Also i have to thank to the tip posted before, i uninstalled the norton internet security and installed Avira free antivirus (light and effective!), and amazon for the one day delivery option, great!

I just bought this laptop to replace my old dell one. This toshiba laptop turns out to be a good one. It is easy to use and has pretty sensitive touch pad. I especially enjoy the image and video experiences on this laptop. I also use it to play some video games and I am satisfied with its special effects and image qualities.
If you have little budget and want to get a nice laptop, I will highly recommend this one.

P.S. Windows 7 is wayyyyy better than Windows vista. I recommend Win 7 too!

This is my first laptop at the youthful age of 42! I waited so long because I'm a Mac guy (LOVE the Macbooks that I've tried) but financial hard times prohibited such a purchase. I also just went back to college, and had a professor that mandated the use of a PC (for a programming class).

This laptop is pretty good, overall. Pluses are a nice big screen, it's fast, and I haven't had many operating issues with it. I'm sure that it would be awesome for watching movies and playing games, but it was bought for school/work reasons. Minuses are trackpad location (details in the next paragraph), short battery life (not a biggie though - that's what the charger is for), and a stupid pop up bar on the left side of the screen for the built in camera and such (if it can be turned off, I haven't taken the time to figure out how).

About that trackpad - I'm lefthanded, so my thumb and part of my hand sit right over top of the pad, causing the cursor to jump somewhere unwanted. It also means that I can't really use my left hand on the pad, since it's right over top of it.

Overall, a great computer. The performance is solid, and it seems like it would be durable compared to some other stuff that I've seen lately. It is a bit heavy though - I'm GLAD I didn't get the 17 inch model!

It works really well and I use it for school work and personnel stuff. The battery life does not last for four hours as the specifications said, it lasts for about one and a half hours with me just reading a Kindle book. I loved that Windows 7 was pre-installed but only for a specific time. Windows 7 should have been installed without me having to buy it after 60 days. The computer itself is alright.

Have had this laptop in use now for about 2 months.Replacement for my Hp that lasted 3 yrs.
Was surprised with the ease to upload all the files from my desktop system via wi-fi. Found
the touch pad to be too sensitive and sometime operate with a mind of its own. Now use a wireless
mouse to search the internet. Unit very quiet...some Toshiba models were reviewed as loud fan noise
when I was shopping...not this one. Very happy so far. Good value for the dollar.

I love this laptop. It is great for email, photos, Skyping, web surfing, etc. I'm very happy.
