Well packaged for shipping. Arrived super fast via FedEX 2 day.

Pros:
1. Well made
2. Light weight
3. Full size keyboard
4. Bright sharp LCD screen

Cons:
1. Arrived with one pixel turned on ALL the time (A dead pixel) very annoying for a new laptop!
2. Only 2 USB ports. Both placed up front on right side. Just perfect for getting a mouse cord tangled.
3. Pre-installed Windows 7 but no DVD. Only a Hard Drive sector with a restore.
4. Can't partition hard drive as I WANT IT. Had to buy a new Windows 7 Software to be able to reformat & partition as I want it.

I have used this laptop for business (document creation, networking applications and light coding). This laptop has performed excellently. It should be noted that my company formats all machines and installs from scratch so I can not comment about any pre-installed items.

One item to note: This laptop actually has three USB ports. Two standard looking USB ports on the right and a combination USB/eSATA on the left that most people do not notice. This USB/eSATA port is supposed to remain powered when the machine is shut down. This is a BIOS option that is turned off by default.

My biggest complaint about this machine is the low number of horizontal lines. At only 768 lines it seems as if I am always scrolling in documents and code. This laptop easily drives a large external monitor minimizing this complaint for me.

Decent buy for friend. Good for basic users. Toshiba products have very good build quality and I'm satisfied with this.

I've owned this laptop for a little over a month I believe, and it's performing very nicely. I would give it 4.5 stars but that's not an option. :)

PROS:
- very fast, and surprisingly quiet. The Core i5 is superb, especially for the price Amazon is charging. I can have three or four programs going at once, with multiple tabs/pages/processes each, and none of them suffer noticeably.
- excellent, solid construction; very well made. It is very pretty, too, if that's important to you.
- very well shipped (and fast!) ... thank you Amazon.
- I LOVE Windows 7, though this really has nothing to do w/ Toshiba themselves. Toshiba added a lot of nifty programs and media (backgrounds, music) that I liked a lot, though this could be considered "bloatware"
- the numeric keypad is great for me, since I'm in the sciences and do a lot of data input/Excel projects.
- very decent speakers, good clarity. Not much bass though, so you might want external speakers for music, movies, games.
- I have not played any games or watched DVDs on it yet, so I can't comment on how well the processor handles them or how good its graphics are for these purposes. But this is not a gaming/entertainment-based laptop, so if you're a hard-core gamer expecting that kind of performance, you will probably be disappointed. But for a full-time student who likes to play higher-end games once in a while, this laptop would be a great choice. The i5 would be fast enough to handle the game, I think, though the shared graphics memory (even if it's dynamically allocated) and integrated card (not replaceable) will not give you the impressive detail you might want.

CONS:
- "fingerprint magnet"; the keys start to feel "slimy" and plastic-y after you use it for a while b/c of fingertip oil.
- can get quite warm even with light usage; I would definitely recommend a fan-mat cooling device.
- the battery really is not up to par, as others have said. I get about 3 hrs. even on Toshiba's "eco utility", with only one to three tasks going (e.g., word processing, Media player, one Internet page -- if that).
- comes pre-installed with a lot of unnecessary bloatware, though I do like some of these programs (like Bulletin Board). These programs are easily deleted though, and with a 500GB harddrive, you can likely spare the space these programs take up. They don't make the computer run more slowly at all.
- the power cord gets very hot, so beware of that. The plug also sparks every time I plug it in, which may or may not be Toshiba's fault?

Overall, an excellent product for people with above-average PC needs -- the basics and some entertainment purposes.

I'm enjoying the laptop in all but one important respect - it is advertised with "up to 5.5 hours" and I am getting less than 2 with average usage!

I purchased this product as an open box item so feel I got a very good deal. It has not disappointed. The only negative is I am still getting used to a kepboard that is not centered on the screen. I'm sure in time I'll get used to it. Otherwise it works perfectly, boots up quickly and looks good too.

This is a great laptop! After looking over the myriad of laptops available, the Satellite has everything you could think of or want, and for an excellent price. I've had no problems with it to date, nor am I expecting any. Windows 7 is better than XP or Vista as a Micro$oft product.

I highly recommend the Toshiba Satellite.

Battery didn't last more than 25 minutes, Contacted Toshiba they wanted to hold $[...] on my card while they shipped and waited for the original battery to be shipped back. This is 4 day old lab top!!! Returning and going with another brand! Horrible Service! Update 10-21-10 Amazon replaced the computer with a new one. Battery life is better but in no possible way will you achieve anything close to 5 hours. It's holding for just under 3 hours!

This is a great laptop! It was easi to install, easy to use, grerat keyboard and very fast. Love it.

Based on positive reviews i purchased this product.After spending 2 hrs ,trying to set it up i discovered that the plastic
piece that holds the cartridge in place was missing.So the unit is useless
