If you are looking for a widescreen laptop, this Satellite has everything you want and doesn't give you things you don't want for the money. I had an HP and I won't ever go back. I love the fact that you get the (64 bit) version of Vista, that is the only way to get the true benefits of 4gb of ram with Vista. The eSATA/USB port is the only way to go if you are planing on using an external storage device, it is many times faster than using USB alone. They put just the right amount of software on the computer without all the bloatware the comes preinstalled with other computers (HP). This laptop has a great look and finish, I especially love the feel of the keyboard and when you type it is very quite. I forgot how much I missed the 10 keypad, I won't go without one again. The finish does seem to be a little suseptible to scratches. The Harman/Kardon speakers sound great, you can turn the sound all the way up without any static. The FM tuner works great and it is nice to listen to the radio while on the laptop. So far, the battery life is very impressive for such a large screen laptop. The more I use this Satellite, the more I love it.

There are so many things to like about the Toshiba P305-S8910: sleek attractive appearance, 17- inch Tru-Brite screen, and overall, pretty good performance for a modestly priced laptop. I was able to become accustomed to the heavier than expected weight of the laptop. However, just as other reviewers have noted, the DVD drawer opens unpredictably and frequently; and the touchpad is so defective as to make the computer unusable witout first disabling it and resorting to use of a mouse. Adjusting sensitivity controls for the touchpad made absolutely no difference as to performance. As the most recent reviewer noted, the touchpad on this model is wacko. (You can actually sit back and observe it operating all on its own.) User input is irrelevaant. These specific problems seem to be known defects with this model, yet Toshiba is still selling them. I would definitely not recommend.

This is a great laptop for all my mobile computing needs. The Vista Home Premium allows me to run my local IIS Web Server, ColdFusion 8 Application Server, and Microsoft 2005 Express without any lag. My developer tools for buiding web applications all run great - Adobe CS3 Suite and RedGate Tool Belt. This machine rocks and I still have room to expand my 4Gigs to 8Gigs of RAM. In addition, Office 2007 Ultimate, Project 2007, and Visio puts the cherry on this sundae of a deal. I'm one happy camper.

I wish Toshiba had this computer, and I had my money back; I spent much more on it than today's advertised price.

I recently tried to use the CD drive, which would not work.

However, the main complaint I have, is the extremely sensitive touch pad, which is constantly kicking me out somewhere into cyberspace. And, this guy is also a "self-scrolling" unit. There are times when I'm not touching it and it will start scrolling down.

If I'm missing something, perhaps someone can advise me.

I looked for a long time before making this purchase and I am so happy with this laptop. Everyone that has checked it out wants one also. And Amazon made the purchase so easy. It arrived on time and works great. I couldn't have asked for more.

I just bought this computer and have had more problems with it than anything that I've ever owned. It has been in the hands of Toshiba repair center getting "fixed" for about half of the time that I've owned it! Would definetly recommend a different brand... Although customer service was friendly, they wouldn't help me at all. The computer still had MAJOR problems and Toshiba refused to replace the defective product. Toshiba just lost all my business! I will say that Amazon completely took care of me and this review is against the Toshiba product, not the service at Amazon. Thank you for helping me Amazon where Toshiba would not!

Received my 17" screen laptop as promised. All seemed well until the 2nd week when encountered many problems. Admittedly there was almost an entire day working with techs from my local ISP to Toshiba who finally told me to return the unit for a new one. Called Amazon & had a new one within 3 days! So far it works great - LOVE the big picture & integrated numbers - as it's replacing a PC. Think you'll love it but still not sure about VISTA.

Hard drive failure after 2 mos of use. It did not come with a backup disc. It took 10 days to receive one by mail. The over all laptop is nice. free features. Just be sure to make that disk as soon as the system boot up.. Well 24 hours of updating when connected first time. Trust my internet is business quality< it was Toshiba website...

This is the WORST piece of electronics I have ever bought. The only thing worse than this piece of crap is Toshiba's customer service. I have had it for 2 months and have already had to mail it back twice, which of course resulted in losing ALL my data. Do yourself a favor and don't even THINK of buying a Toshiba.
