5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly What I expected
Alright, so I bought this laptop for college. I wanted something small, lightweight and powerful, but also good-looking. I though about the 14.1 inch Sony Vaio's and was extremely close to buying one when I found out about this PC.

I've had it for about a week now, and if I remember, I'll update the review as time goes by.

The laptop looks...

1.0 out of 5 stars The Laptop was completely dead just afer one year guarantee was expired
The DVD@was bad and replaced just after half year since I bought it. The Laptop was completely dead just afer one year guarantee was expired. The repairman told me the main board was bad. what should I do? Should we trust Toshiba's quality? Definitely not? I had rated it as 5 stars just after I bought. Now I hated it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly What I expected, August 13, 2008
This review is from: Toshiba Satellite U405-S2856 13.3" Laptop (2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Black (Personal Computers)

The laptop looks amazing, it has this shiny finish that's reflective, and i just love the feel of it, I would recommend heading over to your local PC/electronics store to see it in person, because that's how I fell in love.

I'm not going list all the specs, because you can find most of them on this page, I'll list some cool features I liked though:

The PC comes with Ulead DVD factory for Toshiba, which I love because i make mini movies, and the title menu's you can make on it are amazing. The laptop also has a flashlabel drive, so i can print awesome labels on my DVD's, a great feature if u use that stuff.

It has a built in camera/mic which is cool. It also comes with face recognition software so you can actually log into the computer by using you're face rather than a password (it takes time to get used to, but it's cool).

It has bluetooth, which i personally don't use, just throwing it out there.

With 2.26 GHz and 3GB RAM i'm pretty sure this machine can handle my super multitasking, and whatever programs you have for it. Be warned that i don't play games on my laptop, so I can't speak for that

The battery life is great, it can give you about 5 hours and a half for browsing the internet or Microsoft word.

Yup, that's about all i have to say, u can drop a question in the comments :D

Update: i forgot to mention that the battery that comes with this is an extended one, so it sticks out from the back about an inch, not that big of a deal with such a small PC (given the fact battery life is so great)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good laptop, bad sound and something wrong with OS, February 3, 2009
This review is from: Toshiba Satellite U405-S2856 13.3" Laptop (2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Black (Personal Computers)
I got this laptop few days ago. It looks good, its really quite, doesn't heat and battery lasts long. Almost everything is good about it besides few things.

Sound: Its not that audible, i have to keep laptop really close to hear clearly, even headphones doesn't help.

Overloaded: its loaded with bunch of softwares ( around 20 GB) its no use Toshiba.

I had it for a week now no problems at all. However, One fine day I turned on the laptop and I got this strange error ( NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND ), and it kept repeating this message over and over. After force reboot it went off, and started fine again. I am not sure if it is an indicator of prospective problems!!

Anyways, its a good laptop to buy, I would recommend it to friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfied Customer, November 27, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toshiba Satellite U405-S2856 13.3" Laptop (2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Black (Personal Computers)
This was my second time purchasing a Toshiba laptop. Once again, I am very satisfied with the product. Setting up the laptop was very quick and simple without any problems. From the time that I set it up, there have been no problems-- even when I open up a multiple amount of windows at the same time. I am able to be online, download pictures, and listen to music all at the same time without experiencing any problems. Although the battery sticks out a little, it is fine because the battery life is good. Windows Vista does at great job, i'm guessing, because this laptop was designed for this OS. I bought the first Toshiba laptop for my oldest daughter, I bought this laptop for my second daughter, and next year when I will have to buy a laptop for my younger daughter, there is no doubt in my mind that I will purchase a Toshiba laptop. This laptop uses Norton 360 virus protection, which does a really good job. It does not slow down the computer at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 Stars - Great Buy, November 26, 2008
This review is from: Toshiba Satellite U405-S2856 13.3" Laptop (2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Black (Personal Computers)
I've had this laptop for about 3 months and I love it. It's generally fast, has good features, is light and slick looking. It's not too heavy to carry around and comes with an extended battery.

The keyboard also has an especially cool feel. Really! I know that sounds silly, but it makes all the difference. I'm so spoiled by the feel of my laptop keyboard that I don't like typing on standard keyboards anymore.

I'd like to take off half a star because I think the touch-pad mouse gets too hot on occasion, and the battery lost some of it's battery life. (It's still got 4 1/2 hours, though.)

It's definitely worth buying!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected., October 18, 2008
This review is from: Toshiba Satellite U405-S2856 13.3" Laptop (2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Black (Personal Computers)
This notebook is a 13,3" 2,26 GHz Core 2 Duo with 3 GB RAM and 320 GB HD. Ok. But... It has labeflash, extended battery and a radio turner. It would be better if it was a TV, but, for me that just bought because of the three first specifications... I strongly recomend. The price has come down since a I bought it.

4.0 out of 5 stars great! some sleep problems, AMAZING battery life, May 19, 2009

i looove my laptop, but sometimes when i try sending it to sleep, it doesn't, and the screen turns dark, but the lights are still on, and the first time you're like "whats going on?" and you just leave it, thinking it will go to sleep in a bit.

but then you come back and it has turned itself off, although when you log in again, your firefox DOES save your tabs, and you get that "there was an unexpected shut down" notification. Word also gives you the autosaved documents, but it's still a hassle, because this all defeats the purpose of sending your laptop to sleep!! (to save your session)

also when your laptop successfully sleeps, and you log back in, occasionally your internet does not work anymore, so then you have to restart, which again defeats the purpose.

lastly, the computer does get really hot sometimes! like on the cursor pad, but nothing bad happened yet!
battery life is amazingggg, on power saver i can get like over 5 hours! all my friends are jealous :)
Besides the 3 things above, there have been no problems, i love my laptop!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best in it's category, November 7, 2008
This review is from: Toshiba Satellite U405-S2856 13.3" Laptop (2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Black (Personal Computers)
The machine is great. The only thing I miss is the fingerprint reader.
The sound is nice for a notebook. It's thin and light for it's class, and definitely a very good looking machine. The battery is supperb, nearly 5,5 hours with wi-fi on, and heavy Internet browsing. It's extremely quiet, and don't get too warm. The radio tuner is excellent, very nice to have it. I can also record from a stereo line in (nice feature), it's the same input as the microphone, but you can set it up through software (great for transfer LP's to MP3). Keyboard is very smooth and responsive, very confortable to type. Don't forget it's got Bluetooth too.
I'm very happy with it. Would buy it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST LAPTOP EVER!!!, July 2, 2009

I have been using this laptop since it was released back in October 08, and I couldn't be happier with it, it woks perfectly, the battery last almost the five hours, the only complain I have are the speakers they are lousy, the sound is mediocre, but I am using external speakers, so really it is something that doesn't affect the rest of the performance, I have had computers with better sound but the rest of the computer is not functional, so I think there is nothing perfect, beside I am not using it as my media center, I upgraded it to windows 7 and it works excellent. the bluetooth pairs with everything very easy too. the finger scan I missed it at first but I use Norton identity and my life is easier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small, fast and great screen!, April 20, 2009

I got this toshiba because it has a 32 bit version of Vista that I need to run some of my management contact software programs, which won't work with the 64 bit version. The processer is very fast due to the 1066 front side bus and large 3 MB L2 cache. The screen is very bright and movies and DVD's on this are a pleasure to watch. For a 13 inch portable the sound is good, not a lot of bass, but sound quality is relative. And it has a volume wheel on the front of the machine, very handy. The wirless N is fast and the bluetooth is great for added devices with out the hassel of adding a dongle. You can also charge devices if the computer is off, a nice touch. The pluses far outweigh the cons but be aware the battery does stick out from the back a bit and the while the keyboard has excellent action and a somewhat unique feel, it does show fingerprints. I would get one again as I have found my last two Toshiba laptops to be durable and have survived alot of airline travel. I find the quality both internally and externally to be excellent. This model does not come with a modem, but a detachable antenna to pick up FM radio stations, useful if you want to listen to music but don't have a connection to the web.
