5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing TV For An Amazing Price!, April 22, 2007

Everytime I went to a store and saw TV's on display I would always gravitate toward the DLP's. I find their picture quality to be the best in comparison to LCD and Plasma. I got this TV for $1500 through Electronic Expo here on Amazon. The TV came in a week and my god is it amazing.

I've read some reviews on older Toshiba models about lamp problems, but this model came out in Feb. 2007 so I'm pretty sure Toshiba worked out the kinks. So far so good for me. The picture quality is extremely sharp. DLP is great because you can sit closer to it than you could with Plasma or LCD and still get a crystal image. The room we have it in isn't that big. I also have a PS3 hooked up through HDMI on this TV and gaming on this TV is just as good as watching movies. I've had no experience with the dreaded "rainbow effect" either. In my opinion this is the best buy for the money. The TV performs excellent, it's not deep in the back, and best of all it's very light so it's not a hassle to move around. Highly reccomended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value for a 1080p TV, June 8, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toshiba TALEN 57HM167 57-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV - EOL August 2007 (Electronics)
I was looking for a good price on a 1080p tv. The Toshiba TALEN 57hm167 DLP was the best value I could find. It is 57", very bright, and does 1080p. I play XBOX 360, watch some tv, and occasionally watch movies. I have spent the most time so far playing XBOX 360. Video games look awesome on this tv. The picture is great and it is very bright. I think 1080p makes a marginal difference in picture quality right now. However, I think playing games in 1080p will be very nice when I have the capability to do so.
I have only two complaints so far with my new tv. I can't input 1080p to my tv with my XBOX 360 pro because it doesn't have HDMI. The XBOX 360 elite has an HDMI connector, but the XBOX 360 "pro" and "core" versions do not. The Toshiba 57hm167 only accepts 1080p through an HDMI input. You can't input 1080p through component video or through the pc input. From what I understand, it is somewhat rare for a 1080p tv to take 1080p through the component video interface. However, a lot of 1080p tv's take 1080p through the pc input(also called VGA or D-SUB). Why my Toshiba 57" DLP doesn't is a mystery to me. My other minor gripe is that standard definition tv doesn't look great sometimes. Some channels, like comedy central and CNBC look fine. Others don't look very good. I don't care very much about that because comedy central and CNBC are the 2 channels I watch the most anyways. I have seen other high definition tv's that display standard def.(480I) on a high def.(720p or 1080i) screen better than my Toshiba does. Maybe the 1080p resolution makes a difference. It is a big jump in going from 480i to 1080p. Whatever the case, standard def. tv can look better on high def. television sets.
Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase so far. I love the excellent picture quality of 1080p in a very modestly priced tv. I had a budget of $1,500 dollars, and I didn't think I could make that with a 1080p tv. Toshiba fills the modestly priced 1080p tv segment perfectly. There isn't much more I could have hoped for in my new tv besides the pc input being able to accept 1080p. The picture quality is great and I would highly recommend the Toshiba TALEN 57hm167 57" DLP to anyone that is looking for this type of tv.

2.0 out of 5 stars Toshiba 57HM167, June 8, 2007
This review is from: Toshiba TALEN 57HM167 57-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV - EOL August 2007 (Electronics)
I purchased a Toshiba 57HM157 from a local retailer in Oregon, Video Only June 11-07. 4 days after getting the TV the Lamp went out. I read reviews on other rear projection Toshiba products prior to my purchase and noticed several complaints of short lamp life which prompted me to purchase an extended in-home warranty. I have had the TV less than 30 days so I will be getting a new one from the retailer. BEWARE OF TOSHIBA REAR PROJECTION TVs. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND A EXTENDED WARRANTY
