5.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy! But remember..., April 30, 2007
This review is from: Toshiba TALEN 65HM167 65-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV - EOL August 2007 (Electronics)
A great buy from Amazon! Even after shipping costs I saved nearly $300 over B*st B*y and Circ*it C*ty. I can't believe this unit shipped so fast and in perfect condition to Florida. Ordered late on 25 April and received the unit on 30 April from Fed Ex (estimated delivery date was 29 April - 4 May.) Fed Ex delivery person helped me bring it into my house, which is unusual for curbside shipping. He also told me he could have delivered the TV on 27 April but that was before the shipping date so he held onto it. No sweat though, it was still ahead of schedule.

I'm pleasantly surprised with the TV. One word of advice - don't buy HDMI hi-def cables from a retail vendor or you'll pay 5-6 times more than you need to, like $50 for a 6 ft cable which is ridiculous. It's a digital cable, so the signal is there or it isn't. There's no advantage to buying M*nster C*bles or another overpriced brand. I picked up 12 ft cables from a reputable online vendor for $10 each.

Remember this unit doesn't ship with a TV stand. I have it resting on two end tables until I make my own stand for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice TV but..., July 25, 2007
This review is from: Toshiba TALEN 65HM167 65-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV - EOL August 2007 (Electronics)
I purchased this TV on May 21. I felt like I got a smoking deal since I got free shipping and paid no sales tax but shipping took quite a bit longer than Amazon estimated due to the fact that once Eagle trucking received it, they made me wait an extra week for them to bring it to my house. Small problem considering the shipping was free. I was very impressed with the picture quality and features for the price. That is until the lamp unit failed last week after only two months of normal use. The TV suddenly began having problems turning on. The LED lights on the front indicated a lamp problem. I called Toshiba and they offered to mail me a replacement lamp unit without question (lamp warranty is one year and they are user replaceable). They said it would take five business days but I actually got it today after only three business days. I installed the lamp and the TV now works perfectly again. My only hope is that this does not repeat itself in another two months. Depending on who you believe, these lamps are supposed to last anywhere between 3,000 and 8,000 hours but a quick Internet search told me that Toshiba has had a continuing problem with their lamps failing prematurely. I recommend this TV if you can get a good deal on it but I wish I'd purchased the extended warranty.

4.0 out of 5 stars For the price it can't be beat (right now), September 29, 2007
This review is from: Toshiba TALEN 65HM167 65-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV - EOL August 2007 (Electronics)
I got the TV very quickly from Eagle, they came in, unboxed it for me and let me turn it on before they left. Very professional. I ordered it on a Wednesday and it got to me by the next Tuesday morning in Texas.

I have to say though, that the TV might be a bit too big. If you're thinking bigger is better, you should at least have 9 ft viewing distance (like I have now). Honestly, I think it looks best sitting about 12-14 ft away. Standard Def looks really bad on it at my current 9ft viewing distance. But HD looks GREAT at 9ft.

I was a little disappointed that the VGA input didn't take 1080p. I was hoping to use a VGA cable with my Xbox 360 to get 1080p, but that does not work with this set.

Also, it seems like there might be a slight defect in the upper right hand corner of the screen. It bows in slightly giving that corner a rounded edge instead of a straight edge like the other 3 corners. I'm not sure if this is a defect with my TV alone or all with this model.

Overall I haven't found a better deal at this size and 1080p for $1600. That's pretty amazing. I've only had the TV for 5 days now, but it's great. Finding a stand for it was a bit of a pain, but BEST BUY sold a stand for this model that is a nice 22" high and looks like it was suppose to go with the TV.

The speakers inside the TV also put out a nice sound quality.

Overall, I'd say if you want BIG and 1080p for a great price, go for this TV. But have at LEAST 9ft of viewing distance for HD to look good, and at least 12ft for Standard Def to look decent (as good as standard can look).

Also, the dimensions of this TV say it goes back 22" deep, but the footprint is actually more like 19" deep, so when you're trying to find a stand keep that in mind.

Oh, one more plus about the TV is the viewing angle. I stood in Circuit City to look at this model before buying from AMAZON and I have to say compared to the SONY, SAMSUNG and MITSUBISHI models this one had the best side viewing angle. It didn't darken like the other DLP models did when standing from the side (at least not nearly as much).
