Not Worth The Bulb Hassle,
This review is from: Toshiba TDP-S20U DLP Video Projector -SVGA (Office Product)
Okay, digital projection on a budget? I bought this item a few years back. The first $400.00+ bulb blew out in less than 300 hours. I contacted Toshiba and they replaced it, since it didn't get anywhere near the 2,000 hour "lifespan" they claim. The next bulb blew out at 460 hours. I called again. Nothing. No replacement. No service. I was on the phone with them for 4.5 hours and all I could get was 2 promises to "get a call back from one of our supervisors". None of my messages were ever returned. No one ever "called back". No replacement, or offer to replace, or even service sans the attitude. If the bulbs lasted 1400 hours, or even 1,000, I wouldn't be nearly as upset about this hunk'o'junk, but at $400.00+ per bulb, I'm paying an extra $60 dollars for every hour I watch it! Also, I've been typing $400.00+, because the bulb cost has risen every time I've checked into it. The current SRP is $453.00 for one bulb. If you get over 400 hours on a bulb, you're lucky! Avoid this unit, and after my experiences with their "customer service"-less calls, avoid this company's products like the plauge.

My husband has wanted to get a video projector for a while, but just never took the plunge. (...). I convinced him to get this for himself for a late Christmas present.
We brought it home and hooked it up easily. My family is watching "LOTR - The Two Towers" right now. We can not believe how cool this is. I am so glad that we bought this. This video projector is neat because it is lightweight and portable. We can use it in any room. We are not limited by screen size, only by the size of the wall. So far our picture is 70", but as soon as my kids move a couple of books shelves (ha ha) we will expand to 150".

I agree with the previous poster. I have over 2300 hours on my first bulb. This has been a great buy. I don't want to sound fake or like I am advertising, but it really has been a fun toy. I tell my friends that it is one of the only big ticket items I have not had buyers remorse about.

Don't pay attention to the review suggesting that the bulbs are a hassle. This IS a good product, and I think I know what happened with his. The first bulb probably had a problem, and that's why Toshiba replaced it at no cost. But if he installed the next bulb incorrectly, the lifespan is shortened exponentially, so be sure to do it right. And as for the price of the bulbs, they ARE expensive, but he's exaggerating just a bit. I just bought one on the Internet a week ago for $260 (tax free) and it's already here. As for me, I use my projector extensively, probably 5-7 hours a day. It lasted about a year and a half for me, which is more than I thought it would. All in all, this is much better than a big screen t.v., and cheaper...Good buy.

Few things that users of this projector need to know,

I bought this projector very recently and was very disappointed to see the DVD that performs so brilliantly on my HD LCD TV shows very poor presentation on this projector. Then I started some researched and found way to improve it. Eventually I learnt few things that i want to share for benefit of others.
There is a special cable sold on amazon seperately called Component video to VGA. Use this cable to connect DVD player to this projector. Use Computer in VGA port of the projector and component out ports of dvd player. Secondly use Audio Y cable (Red and White at one end and regular headphone jack at other end) for connecting the audio and use internal speaker of this projector). Thirdly set your DVD player for progressive scan. four Set the buld of projector at low instead of high and watch in completely dark room. With these adjustment what you will get is a performance very close to real theater experience. I was amazed the impact it made. Only one thing that still i am not able to work on is focus. Fine focus position of lens does not have much area to move around it focus well only at very extreme position of lens.

I have had this projector for 3 years and it has done a good job. The first bulb lasted 1300 hours, and was under $260 to replace on Amazon. I would have no problem buying a Toshiba again. The only thing I could add is the way the prices have dropped I would buy the T45U or T100U instead of the S20U.

The HD is incredible with this projector. you do have to buy an odd cable (RGB to component) but I found one online for less than $20 on ebay. I paid $850 for mine and my friend just got his from circuitcity for $700. I have over 1800 hours on the bulb and it has not dwindled one bit. Since I bought mine, two of my friends have got the exact same model cause this thing rocks. way better than plasma prices and much more portable.
