1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible mistake!, May 10, 2005

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Toshiba TDP-T90U DLP Video Projector -SVGA (Office Product)
We purchased a T90 projector for use in a church setting...about 1 hour per week. The projector was installed and worked great...for about SIX WEEKS! Then the color wheel broke and it only projected in black & white. But we had a 2-yr warranty, so everything should have been fine, right? Wrong!

First we found out that the closest authorized service center was in a different state and that we would have to pay to ship it both ways. When the service center received it and diagnosed it, they called to inform me that the needed part was on backorder from Toshiba, with no ETA. (Incidentally, I should mention that the service center isn't part of Toshiba; they're just contracted by them to do the work. The staff at the service center has been wonderful!) Anyway, we waited 1 week, then 2 weeks, and 3 weeks with no part! The service center had tried repeatedly to get some sort of ETA from Toshiba with no response.

Finally, I called directly to Toshiba myself. Here's how that process works: You'll first wait on hold for what seems like forever. When someone finally answers, you'll be told that you really need to talk to a different department (Customer Relations), and then wait another eternity for THAT department to pick up the phone. By the way, this will be the first of MANY calls, but they will be unable to give you a direct number to the so-called Customer Relations department...you'll have to wait on hold twice each call. When you finally get someone from "Customer Relations", you'll discover that they are TERRIBLE at relating to customers. You'll be given no real answers...only that someone will have to call you back. However, don't be misled...no one will EVER call you back! Therefore, you'll need to call them back again, (repeating the eternal hold process of course). If you ask to speak to a supervisor, you will be informed that there isn't any supervisor there, and that they are unable to give you a phone number to ANYONE with whom you can regiser your dissatisfaction. If pressed, they will offer to "file a complaint" on your behalf, however if pressed further, they will also admit to you that the complaint is not likely to be read and DEFINITELY won't be replied to! I'm not kidding...this came from Toshiba's "Customer Relations"!!

The bottom line is, we've now been without our projector for 6 weeks, (it was only in service for 6 weeks before it broke!), and the latest line from Toshiba's Customer Relations is that "they will get to it eventually"!

Do yourself a favor...learn from our mistake! DO NOT BUY THIS PROJECTOR!!! Amazon sells many other projectors from many other reputable companies. Buy one of them instead!
