Book Description

October 1997
Before Toshio Saeki worked in his current palette of bright colors, he expressed the darker and more chaotic aspects of unbridled eroticism in black and white, with the occasional and dramatic splash of a single primary color. In this lavishly illustrated book, Saeki's disturbing iconography reveals links to the past and simultaneously indicates the even more bizarre twists his work would take in the future. Early Works also includes the panel-by-panel replication of a Saeki manga story. Japanese Text Only

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Showcase of Saeki's Early Masterpieces, March 10, 2009
This review is from: Toshio Saeki: The Early Works (Paperback)
Toshio Saeki is not well known outside Japan, but he should be. His erotic art, which celebrates sexuality and addresses its sometimes troubling complexity, has no peer. "The Early Works" features work prior to that appearing in the "Chimuyshi I & II" volumes. It is mostly black and white, although there are several works that use color sparingly. Saeki succeeds in evoking a world of carnal chaos that is both seductive and gloriously repulsive. There's nothing but nothing like it. Whatever you pay for this, it's a bargain.
