1.0 out of 5 stars PRICED TOO HIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!
I purchased this book for my private collection. I know for a fact that these plays work. They were used by me and against me by my opponents. One of my opponents was the football coach that the author talks about in his book.

This book covers the passing, power running game, and the misdirection of the Double Wing Offense.
This book is easy to read...

5.0 out of 5 stars The toss an easy high scoring mis-direction offense to run, July 23, 2000
This review is from: The Toss: A New Offensive Attack for High-Scoring Football (Hardcover)
The "Toss" offense is a great offense to install. It's a simple offense to run. The plays are easy to learn and they all look the same. In the toss offense it's really tough for the defense to see who has the ball because the line splits are toe to toe. Also, you will find that you don't need to block all the defenders because if your backs carry out their fakes for atleast ten yards, they will have defenders chasing them all around the field. The linemen blocking is simple because they either double team at the point of attack vs. odd fronts (example 50 def), or they down block vs.even fronts (4-4 and 6-2 def.) & blitzing defenses. I ran the TOSS offense at the high school level (9th grade) and had great sucess, my team went 7-0 in the regular season- out scoring our opponents 212 to 14. If you are looking a easy mis-direction offense to run (like the wing-t) the toss offense is for you. Give it a try, you will be glad you did. Trust me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-written how-to book on a unique offensive system, November 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Toss: A New Offensive Attack for High-Scoring Football (Hardcover)
The authors present a well-written how-to manual of a unique offensive system with only a minimum of the "cheerleading" you regularly receive from advocates of a particular system. The book contains numerous diagrams and pictures to illustrate both the technical aspects of each play and the visual representation of the play as it is executed during an actual game.

The "Toss" offense features power football with an adequate measure of deception. To be honest, it is strictly for those who advocate ball control and a run-oriented attack, using passing as a change of pace and quick strike feature when the opposing defense has totally committed to defending the run. The "Toss" offense is a total team offense, with the entire offensive team involved in every play. With pulling linemen and double-team blocking at the point of attack, it is well suited to teams with smallish but quick offensive linemen or to teams without outstanding offensive players. The "Toss" offense's power features remind me of the single-wing in its ability to concentrate a large number of players at the point of attack. This offense can be adapted to any age group of players. For example, I intend to use it for a 10-12 year old Pop Warner team. This book on the "Toss" offense is a quality addition to any coaches' collection of football "how-to" books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved Our Otherwise Horrible Season, January 25, 2000
By
This review is from: The Toss: A New Offensive Attack for High-Scoring Football (Hardcover)
As a coach facing the possiblity of not only going 0-8, but being routed this book changed our season. The record stayed the same but it made my freshman and sophomore starters (graduated 17 seniors the previous year) a very competitive group. Had we held onto the football we would have been 3-5 at the very worst. With young kids I installed this offense, and the blocking schemes in a matter of 5 days. I can't thank Coach Vallotton enough for writing this book and changing my philosophy of what an offense can do. He is also very available as a resource when installing the offense. He has numerous videos and drills available for an inexpensive price. He is also willing to talk on line and on the phone to help iron out any wrinkles you might come across. To be honest I wouldn't sell my "bible" (as the kids refer to it) for any amount of money. I recommend this book to any coach struggling with putting points on the board, it has sure helped my team.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Incredible, October 16, 2000

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Toss: A New Offensive Attack for High-Scoring Football (Hardcover)
So you want to run the ball, or know how to stop it? This book is a must have for all coaches at every level. If you don't learn and understand the principles of The Toss, than you are destined to suffer the consequences. The author does not hold anything back. The Toss is the "Republic" of a run-first, deception based offense. You find yourself agreeing with the logic of each assertion. The material is in depth, yet easy to understand. I ran a scaled down version of this offense with a pee-wee football team, and found myself wishing the opposing players were smarter so that I could incorporate even more wrinkles. The philisophical approach allows you to run four plays or forty succesfully. Your team can easily absorb the suggested variations. The possibilities are limitless. The Toss covers everything from motion to personnel in builing your own offense. The Toss is to the Option attack what the West-Coast offense is to the vertical passsing game. Its safer, sharper, more effective, and more fun. Even if you don't run The Toss, you need to know its out there. Vallotton is a true football scholar if such a thing exists. P.S. Disregard this if you coach against me.

4.0 out of 5 stars A well written book...from the people who know how to write, November 8, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: The Toss: A New Offensive Attack for High-Scoring Football (Hardcover)
It's been a couple of years since a division of Simon and Schuster (in this case Parker Pub) kicked out a good old-fashioned football x's and o's book. The master publisher returns with Coach Vallotton explaining all the details of a simple yet effective attack that is gaining a loyal following all over the country.

This is "three yards and a cloud of dust" theory at its best and is definately a book coaches should read. The offense has rewritten record books in the Western Unitd States and it provides a solid fundemental offense for any program. There is nothing fancy here, this is hard-nosed football folks, but remember sometimes its those simple things that win football games!!!

Like all the Simon and Schuster's books of old it's well organized and detailed. The diagrams are a little disappointing coming from this publisher but they don't distract from the overall quality of the book. Stop-motion photographs add to to the details and give the reader a better understanding of the "look" Coach Vallotton is trying to achieve. Coach Vallotton does a good job of explaing how he uses each play, and when to use them.

Kudos!! to Simon and Schuster for getting back into this market and Kudos !! to Jerry Vallotton for writing such a good book.

Vallotten's book is a quick, easy read that contains practical information for setting up the double wing offense. His rationale for its use will disarm critics and will fire up proponents to refine the system. A great and useful tool for any coach who is willing to take a chance to get better.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Toss" is a winner!, February 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Toss: A New Offensive Attack for High-Scoring Football (Hardcover)
I recently finished reading Coach Vallotton's book, "The Toss". I have been researching the Double Wing offense for some time now and this is truly one of the best sources of this offense on the market! Coach V's writing style is clear, concise and easy for even the novice coach to understand. However, the experienced coach will probably benefit the most. Coach V explains the basic concepts behind the Double Wing strategy that starts with "The Toss" play. He refines the offense with his sweeps, counters and traps. Then he provides the detailed information to implement a passing attack. The section that I felt was one of the most useful was the "drills" section where he provides guidance on running unique drills in your practice that compliment "The Toss". Overall a great book that is a must for all coaches who are running the Double Wing or are thinking of changing their offense. This book will sell you on its effectiveness!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works at all Levels, May 21, 2002

This review is from: The Toss: A New Offensive Attack for High-Scoring Football (Hardcover)
Last year when I became a first year Head Coach of a 7-8 year old team I was looking for an offense that would be powerful, fun, and easy to learn. The first book I bought was this book and I stopped there. This book gives you everything you need to run the offense.

It is well written and easy to understand. The diagrams can be taken directly from the book and used as is without any quess work. The program I took over had only won 3 games in 6 years. Last year the team went 5-2-1 and outscored the other teams 103 to 51 (8 game season) and posted 3 shutouts.

This book worked for me and it will work for you!

Good Luck,

Coach Steve
