Verbal humour and musical ingenuity. A fine blend. Add a dash of charisma and a sprinkle of charm. A heady brew. Gotta love'em.

He's a little bit country, He's a little bit rock n roll..., February 7, 2004
This review is from: Tossing A Friend (Audio CD)
There are two ways to interpret Muckafurgason, as a band. My initial impression was that they're a bunch of jokers with a couple of conservative-indie-flavored pop tunes. After some contemplation, I got the impression that the Muckaboys are somewhat disconcerted by their rather goofy lyrical highjinks and prefer to be seen as a wittier-than-most indie band. This would be an egregious mistake. What draws people like me, my friend Chris, my boss Fredric, and others to this band is how fun they are, which is pretty rare with the bands I've seen lately. They've also been enticing a growing number of celebrities and almost-celebrities like the older Pete from Nickelodeon's "Pete & Pete," and Dave Cross from Mr. Show ("he said, 'three cheers for Muckafurgason... hip hip hooray...' and he did all three"). Uber-hipster-comedy goddess Janeane Garofalo has been spotted at their shows and John claims "she has a pair of Muckafurgason underwear." So many bands these days are so serious about being punk or indie. Not so with the Muckafellas. They're good AND they're funny. Who else would insult your mom during a performance? This is from an article I wrote about the band back in 1998. To read more, go to: http://www.geocities.com/dbtf93/muckafurg.html

More, Muckaferguson, More! A dazzling performance! If you can't get in to see them play live, steal a usherette/barman outfit and sneak in.

I saw these guys live at the Lost and Found Saloon in San Francisco and can't wait to see their imagination in a video. The cd is our only consolation for not having these guys play live in our homes. Buy it, and if they come to your town, see 'em.

Please Mucka, don't hurt 'em!, July 11, 1998

Shmonkey: I like this cd, and I am not just saying that because I used to live with one of these guys. Clowny: Now you're bragging. S: Yeah, well, you dated him! C:I also enjoy that Atari song. Do they mention Centipede in it? S: I don't know, but the Lunch Rap is so choice. It highlights the voracious appetite of the band member we spoke of earlier (hello!). C: You're using big words again, Shmonkey. S & C (in unison): Muckafurgason's new CD gets five stars because our asses (Shmonkey's new favorite word) will be so grass if we say anything to the contrary. It rocks and it rolls. It swings like khakis. It is truly badical. Please Mucka, don't hurt 'em!

my favorite band in the city, by far. i love these guys. they're witty, clever, funny, and even talented on top of that. the new one, the gay ep, is actually better than tossing a friend, even though it's TOO DARN SHORT. atari 2600, consuela, sweetie pie...all fantastic.
