We've used this product for about 1 month now and so far, so good. We have a gas range and this product adequately covers both the knobs to turn on gas and the burners themselves so our toddler can't burn himself. I do not find it difficult to cook with this product in place and I am only 5'3". The product has held up well so far--we had read reviews on other products that stuck to the stove and people complained about heat melting the glue used for adhesion so we went with this model so that wouldn't be a problem. The only potential issue is when you open the oven door it does take some extra care so the shield doesn't fall on the floor (or you could simply remove it first, but I'm usually too lazy to do so). The only reason I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5 is because it's a little wider than our range and I have to move it over to one side to get the drawers on either side of the range open, which is slightly annoying. But, that is a small price to pay for protecting the toddler! I recommend this product.
UPDATE: We've now used this product for 3 months and tonight my son got his hand under the shield and turned on the gas on the stove. We didn't noticed and it was left on for 2 hours while we were out of the house. I've seen him stick his hand under it before but didn't really think he could manage to turn the knob, but I was wrong!! So, we are now supplementing the Totshield with clear knob covers. The Totshield is still good protection against the open flame for curious little hands. I hope using both products will solve the issue.

After much searching, this is the only one that I can find that does not require any screwing down, taping down or mounting on to the stove. All it needs to stay in place are the 2 panels that slide into the handle of the oven door. It's easy to remove for cleaning. I have a gas stove. All the other products after mounting still leaves the knobs exposed and my son loves turning them. I would still have to buy the knob guards. This even covers the knobs. I guess the only problem I've encountered is that the handle on my oven door is narrow and has a wide opening, unlike the wide, flat handle you see on the white stove that's in the product's picture. The panels sit closer together on my stove and has more wiggle room so it doesn't stay in place very well. But I'd rather have this then to have to deal with mounting and unmounting for cleaning. Also want to share a good experience I recently had with customer service. My son was playing with the screw that keeps the panels in place. One fell off and we have not been able to find it for weeks. I emailed the company, they sent me a free replacement in just a few days.

The Totshield is the best stove guard on the market. It keeps children's hands away from the burners AND the knobs. One device, total protection.

It is simple, relatively cheap, and goes on and off in seconds, with no tools or required adhesives. The adjustable supports simply slide behind the oven door handle.

You will not be disappointed!!!

:::August 2012 update::: Still satisfied, still works great, no burned fingers. Back when I purchased this product, I CAREFULLY drilled a hole near one end so I could hang this on the wall behind the pantry door when not in use.

Unbelievable. First, my granddaughter got tall enough to reach the knobs on the gas range. This prompted us to start checking out the best for safety to keep her from turning knobs.

Second, I somehow leaned against a knob, and it turned enough to start the release of gas. We left the house, and 2 hours later came home to the smell of gas.

Third, my autistic 7 year old grandson laid his fingers across a hot burner. His mother did not know he had severely burned himself until she saw his fingers all black. He has no sense of feeling.

That clinched it. We needed to find something that would keep smart little fingers from turning knobs plus keep them from out of gas flame or electric burner.

This suited us wonderfully.

I found this stove guard to be the perfect solution on our Whirlpool gas stove. The shield was simple to assemble and install, it does not interfere with the use of the knobs on the front of our stove, and it definitely functions as an effective barrier to our baby boy who is curious about everything. There are just 3 very minor drawbacks, none of which are significant, in my opinion:

1. Wide Width: This shield is so much wider than our standard-width stove that the cabinet drawers on either side of the stove top are now difficult to open without running them into the shield.

2. Falls Off with Door Open to Floor: Only when the oven door is wide open--all the way to the floor--does the shield come off. This is no big deal to us, since it is rare that we would have our oven door open to the floor. If you know you are going to open the door to the floor, you can simply hold the shield on to ensure that it does not fall off.

3. Unnecessary Clips: The shield comes with some clear plastic clips to be installed on the front of your oven door. I found these clips to be completely useless and devoid of function. I would recommend not installing them at all. The shield will work just fine without them.

You cannot put a price on safety and security. There are few things as dangerous as stovetops. This is an excellent product, and I would recommend it to anybody.
