5.0 out of 5 stars Mind blowin', hard hittin', blood pumpin', all out R'n'R!!!!, February 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Total 13 (Audio CD)
This is one of the few bands left that stand for good old rock'n'roll, they are fantastic! This albun show the whole world that rock is on its way back to the top. Kickin' off with the adreniline rush of 'Made me Madman','U.F.O. Romeo' and 'Highligts'. The later a little different in the way that it doesn't wizz past at a zillion chors per second. It continues all the way through the album with the good old Stooges, Pistols, Ramones and Dolls R'n'R. The final three tracks are just superb- 'Bombed out of my Mind' a hard hitting 'sing along', 'Hey I'm Sorry' just screems The Ramones and'Robber of Life' really just show how the sex has ben put back into honest music. The album is perfect, it simply couldn't be any better and so is the band, four little white Swedish boys who were born to be celebrities. The live shows are even better, as you would expect. I've seen them three time and each time I've left the building with the feeling that I accomplish anything(and of corse a big fat smile).Wham, Bham,Thankyou Glam!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Goodgawd! Leave it to the Swedish, March 4, 2002
This review is from: Total 13 (Audio CD)
... to remind us what rock is supposed to be! In this age of lame rap metal and lamer boy bands, Backyard Babies is rock n' roll, and rock n' roll is Backyard Babies. That's that, and Total 13 is their best album so far. While this band is categorized as Swedish punks, that's not too accurate. They're definitely Swedish, but punk is only their starting point. One problem with American and British punks is they're usually afraid to branch out from that restrictive category, and are worried about looking like they're not "authentic" enough if they show any skill or experimentation. Since Backyard Babies are from Sweden, they're either unfamiliar with that rule or just plain don't care, as this album rocks out in ways that are much closer to metal or hard rock in the tradition of Jane's Addiction, Guns n' Roses, and other fearless heavy rock bands. Peder Carlsson and John Blomqvist are the heaviest and most relentless rhythm section heard in years, and deliver a succession of slamming grooves to really ignite this album. Dregen and Nicke Borg have their guitars amped up to eleven, and these guys sound deafening even when you turn down the volume on your stereo. The resulting Backyard Babies sound is huge and anthemic, far beyond the minimalism of standard punks. Fave tracks here are the skullcrushing and metallic "Highlights;" the big maximalist anthems "UFO Romeo," "Subculture Hero," and "Robber of Life;" and the frantic punk groovers "Look at You" and "Let's Go to Hell." Also check out the Jerry Lee Lewis-style boogie piano in "Bombed (Out of My Mind)."

These guys should be as huge as their sound! For guitar freaks out there, I would also like to draw attention to lead guitarist Dregen, who truly reminds me of Dave Navarro or Slash, and easily rises above the limitations of punk rock with a blistering arsenal of maximum grooves, huge sounds, and breakneck guitar solos. Dregen should be a guitar hero among Western rock aficionados.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock Lives!, December 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Total 13 (Audio CD)
Rock 'n' Roll is alive and well and living in Sweden! This band is amazing. Take the best from the Nomads, Hanoi Rocks, and Stooges with a touch of Motorhead and the Sex Pistols and you get the BB. Excellent punk/hard rock songs that are catchy as all hell. "Bombed", "Made Me Madman", and "UFO Romeo" are all great songs that would be all over US radio if there were any justice in the world at all! Buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars BACKYARD BABIES #1 ROCK BAND ON EARTH RIGHT NOW!, September 19, 2003

Before you read my review get off your computer and get this CD anywhere, by any means necessary. Your musical life depends on it! You can thank me later.

Now that you have it in your hot little hands, i'll get down to business. This CD should be a part of any true rocker-metalhead-punk-glam-sleazy-rock-n-roll-music lover's collection in the same way having The Ramones, Guns N Roses, KISS, Hanoi Rocks, AC DC, Misfits, Black Sabbath, Motley Crue, and Thin Lizzy are essential in your library. These guys are the BEST band on the planet Earth right now. They embody so many elements of all those bands. BIG Monsterous Guitar Hooks, catchy melodies, and songs that drip sleaze.

This album is absolutley on my Top 20 albums of all time. There isn't one crappy, mediocre, filler song here. Each one is a gem. A classic. Everytime I listen to it a different song becomes my favorite. When i first got hold of it I would tell anyone who would listen to me about the BACKYARD BABIES and this album. I was like a person who just found the Lord, praising his gloriousness. all hail the BACKYARD BABIES!!

This is the kind of album that as you are listening to it you can't wait to hear it again. You will turn this CD on LOUD, grab a guitar, a tennis racket, or even a broom handle, and rock out in your bedroom like a madman.

I can't tell you how much I love this band and this CD. When, not IF you buy this you will not be disapointed. You will become instant fans of this band and seek everything they've ever done. [...]

BACKYARD BABIES FOREVER!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Favorite, November 26, 2005
This review is from: Total 13 (Audio CD)
Thank you for saying that Nicke Borg is a dead ringer for Mike Ness. Yes I agree! Nicke Borg is one of my favourite singers. He takes a song and makes it his own. Strong vocals. This cd is just great. The first one I bought from BYB. I love it. My favourite songs are Get Dead, Ghetto you & U.F.O. Romeo (what an opening line to a song)I just love it! Oh and Look At You, the song that got me into BYB in the first place. If you like great music & wanna be rocked out your clothes here they are Ladies & Gents BACKYARD BABIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Glorious Total Rock Cacophony, January 27, 2005

One word describes this album: raucous, and unrelentingly so at that. It's an absolute gem. Imagine equal parts Sex Pistols, Hanoi Rocks, Motorhead, Guns 'n' Roses, and Social Distortion (singer/guitarist Nicke Borg is a dead ringer vocally for Mike Ness) and you're nearly there. But BYB go further still, and they're hands down the best pure punk 'n' roll band on the planet right now.

Every song on here is great, but for me "Subculture Hero" is the pick of the bunch -- killer main riff and a powerchord chorus to die for. These guys have all the looks, hooks, chops, and songwriting suss you could ever ask for. This is an essential album for any rocker's collection. I can't wait to see 'em live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock of Ages, December 25, 2002
This review is from: Total 13 (Audio CD)
Great cd!! Finally some great music out there. With guest singer Michael Monroe from Hanoi Rocks on the cd only makes it rock more. BYB rock! Buy this cd, you won't regret it. The version of Faster Pussycats' Babylon is hysterical. They did the song justice. Made Me Madman, you can't ask for better. Trust me, buy it.
