This review is from: Total Death Benefit (Audio CD)
Happy Talk Band is yet another of New Orleans' undiscovered gems, perhaps because they don't fit into the easy genres that tourists want- it's a guy from Oregon singing smart, well-crafted songs about madness and loneliness. The sound is folk rock, but the mood is more country. Track 3, Forget-me-Nots, is especially beautiful. It's a testament to the weakness of the New Orleans music industry and the chaos brought by Katrina (at least one member of the band left permanently afterwards) that you haven't heard of these guys yet.

If you are in town, catch these guys with members of the Morning 40 Federation backing up the singer.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best CDs I've ever heard, March 23, 2011
This review is from: Total Death Benefit (Audio CD)
If you loved Camper Van Beethoven, Townes Van Zandt or even Tom Waites (Swordfish Trombone and Rain Dogs) then this is your CD. Its sharp, deeply insightful, lyrically drive songs about loss and redemption are driven by masterful musical compistion. This is the way great music has been made for centuries. These are iron songs. They have been forged in the hearts of their composers. Please support this band and buy this CD. The price is stupid low. If you see them playing live near you, go buy a ticket.
