Duck Down showing no signs of falling off!,
By
This review is from: Total Eclipse (Audio CD)
I, in conjunction with thousands(if not more)of Black Moon fans waiting for this album to drop. I was not dissapointed. With their lead single "Stay Real", Buckshot and the boys show that they have no intention of going commercial or selling out. Other standout tracks are, "That'z The way s___ iz", "How We Do It", "Where It Goes Wrong", and "This Goes Out To You". If it wasn't for tracks that just didn't bring the same energy and rawness and the aforementioned ones, I would have easily gotten five stars. Duck Down has yet to drop a wack album since their reemergence in the scene. Check out Boot Camp Click "Chosen Few" and "Collect Dis Edition".

HOT HOT HOT,

Why is is that artists like Black Moon are slept on??? Why is that no talent ass Ja Rule more famous than these cats?? Black Moon is HOT. These guys have been around for a while now and have never sold out for fame and fortune. This album is great. The beats are nasty and, as always, Buckshots lyrics are sick. I HIGHLY recommend this album.

I have loved Black Moon since their 1993 release Enta Da Stage and I was one of those fans that hoped and prayed that they wouldnt fall off the face of the Earth after one album. I was far from disappointed. Black Moon released their second album "Warzone"(see review), the greatest hits album "Diggin in dah Vaults"(see review) and then Black Moon returns full circle with "Total Eclipse"...this album has vintage Black Moon written all over it. The trio's frontman Buckshot returns with full force lyrically and nothing has changed since 1993 except Buckshot perfecting his craft. DJ Evil Dee and the Beatminerz bring back that grimy production that has made them household names. My favorite cut among the many that sticks out would be "Stoned Iz The Way" displays Buckshot's on time delivery and the chorus is well placed. As a fan, I am far from disappointed and could only hope that Black Moon will continue to put out that real hip hop for true fans to enjoy.

Black Moon STILL represents!!!!,

Everyone knows what kind of year 2003 was for hip hop. Aside from the decent things that were released, such as Jay-Z's last album, 50 Cent's album, etc, NOTHING came out, and hip hop seems to be getting weaker and weaker EVERYDAY. So, Black Moon, a tight group that's been in the game for a decade now, drops this album in the midst of this wack hip hop that's going on, and they don't disappoint. I wasn't expecting this album to be better than their first album(Enta Da Stage), but it comes close in doing so. Here's the review:Album Highlights: Not too much filler here, but the highlights are Stay Real, Looking Down the Barrel, Fever(an example of a TIGHT song that's TOO SHORT), Confusion, That's The Way S*** Iz, Why We Act This Way, That's How It Iz, Where It Goes Wrong, What Would You Do, Pressure Iz Tight, and This Goes Out To You. Everything else still is worth listening to. Production: Thumbs way up for the Beatminerz' production. Lyrics and Subject Matter: Thumbs up. Buckshot is STILL lyrically gifted today and 5FT lays down some hot lines as well. Originality: Thumbs up. You still get the same old Black Moon here, but it seems so fresh and new(obviously) in a way. The Last Word: Although this album won't achieve the sales figures it deserves, this is still an excellent album from Black Moon. They are tight just the way they are. They don't need to sell out or go pop, and that's way they have such supporters today. You can't ask for much more than that. They stay real, just like the first song on this album says. Strongly recommended.

Best Album of 2003,
By HipHopFanatic (New Jersey) - See all my reviews

Black Moons latest offering puts the Black Album to shame! This album, along with Gangstarr's newest is definitely the best of 2003. For those who were disappointed with their last album Warzone, Black Moon takes it back to Enta Da Stage with this one. The first song, Stay Real made the hair on the back of my neck stand up, yo! Just Blaze later took that beat for Jay-Zs interlude on the black album, but it sounds better with Buckshot and 5 Ft. rapping over it. Da Beatminerz produce most of the album with help from Coptic, Moss and others. Guests are all in-crew and include Smif n' Wessun, Starang and Sean Price. Every song is fat, you can listen to this album from start to finish. A breath of fresh air in a time when hip-hop is being saturated with corny overproduced pop music.

The Key to Longevity,

10 years...Count 'em...10 years ago Black Moon dropped their first album and changed the sound of rap music forever. That was 1993. In 2003, The Moon has returned with another classic that totally eclipses all the current trends and styles in the rap game. There is no mistaking that classic "Black Moon" sound..and this time around the boys from Bucktown rep it all over the album. The single "Stay Real" is reason enuff to cop this album, and thats just the first track. Buck's return is ferocious and his lyrics and delivery are on par with anything he's ever recorded. 5 ft returns hungry as ever and declares that he's here to "Conquer the small then conquer it all". They both keep the subject matter versatile and the lyrics are updated for the 2003 state of mind. "Go for broke cuz don't ya know, life is like one big door closing slow" - Buck spits on "That's the way Sh*t is".. The album is formatted together perfectly. The album does not play like a "best of.." or a "mix tape". This album sounds like an album. The songs flow into each other and give the listener a vibe to tune into. Nowadays that don't happen much. On the real, this album reminds me of an updated hardcore "Low End Theory" or "Midnight Marauders" from a ATCQ. Duckdown has put together a 5 star meal for those true hip hop heads starving for that authentic real deal. The true hip hop supporters will get out there and support this album. Tell a friend to tell a friend...telemundo...Sean Price album coming next..."Monkey Bars" 2004

Original thunder clap finally is Back!!!!,
This review is from: Total Eclipse (Audio CD)
Solid food for milk head listeners "Listen Up" After the constant lack of raw hip hop, I'm more than satisfied to say that Black Moon has snuffed out the lights of this bling, bling hip hop fashion show with fire arm hits. Since Enta the Stage, I heard them go through changes as all do in the business and through the fire they produce a well delivered album with a much needed sledge hammer slap to the current K.O'd hip-hop and name tag video rappers in the face where they need it most. I have thrown away and negative customer commented on so many so called real Hip-Hop music CD's that I only buy music from a handful of groups that have valueable content and meaning while the rest fills in the cracks and fall off because the record companies think this is the sound or set up groups for their demise. I refuse to waste my hard earned money for B@*S#tT. No thanks Record execs and anyone distributing garbage that for your radio not mine! Therefore keep your boots laced and brace for yourself in the shockwave. Black Moon pushes street wisdom without all the g strings and high heel pumps, and ultra glowing champaign bottles plus totally overshadowing lack of substance rappers from each angle and degree.

They Still got the Props, but Keep it Real in the Process!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Total Eclipse (Audio CD)
The Legendary Black Moon(Buckshot, 5FT, Evil Dee) returns with 3rd album titled Total Eclipse. Majority of the production done by Da Beatminerz, along with Coptic Sounds, Nottz, Moss and Kleph who all have production on the album. The production is very nice, all the producers take you for a ride. Every track is different and unique, some are dark, grimey like previous Black Moon stuff but some beats are not as dark but they still grimey at the same time. The album features The Cocoa Brovaz(Tek N Steele) aka Smif-n-Wessun, Sean Price aka Ruck of Heltah Skeltah and Starang Wondah of O.G.C. 17 tracks deep displaying hip-hop in its truest form with the MC and DJ aspect. This album is hot, some real pure hip hop. Its a notch down from Enta Da Stage because thats a pure classic. Its blows away War Zone. 5FT is on like 5 tracks too, so people can stop complaining about him not getting his shine. Lyrically Buckshot is sharper then he's been in a while, and 5FT Reps hard too. Some of the songs actually have a message. Album got mad bangers too, STAY REAL, DOWN THE BARREL, RUSH, STONE IS THE WAY, PRESSURE IS TIGHT, NO WAY, WHY WE ACT THAT WAY, CONFUZION, I can go on an on, but find out for yourself. You won't be disappointed. Pick up the album!!! Evil Dee said this album is the best one they did so far.

Black Moon still got Da Props...,
By SmokaJ (TORONTO) - See all my reviews

Let me set it straight...this is a good album (3 stars), in no way is it worthy of a 5 star rating. "Enta Da Stage" deserves and earns 5 stars, and this 3rd effort (I don't consider "Diggin' in tha Vaults" a full album, more of an EP) from Black Moon deserves 3. This album is WAAAY better than their sophomore album "War Zone." This LP proves to the world that Black Moon is a legend in the game. They have stayed true to their dark & dirty style and refused to sell out. This album is everything we all hoped "War Zone" would be. Evil Dee comes hard with dirty beats (the sh*t we have come to expect from D) and frontman Buckshot kills it with his trademark deep, I don't give a f*ck style. Hey for all you 5FT fans, he gets passed the steel a few times here. Great guest appearances from fellow B.C.C heads (Smif-N-Wessun, Ruck & Starang), the best songs are #5 "That's the Way Sh*t Iz" feat. Smif-N-Wessun & #6 "Why We Act This Way" feat. Starang Wondah, the two blend together perfectly. The only flaw within this album is the eventual repetitiveness that comes with over listening. You could listen to "Enta" over and over again, you can't do that with "Eclipse." Nonetheless, this is a very good album. Bottom line: True Black Moon/B.C.C heads should buy this album, you won't be dissapointed. Casual listeners borrow it or burn it. Final Verdict 3 stars. Peace.

The Lost Art of Hip Hop,

First off I have to admit, I just realized this album even existed until earlier this year. I was down and out on not hearing Black Moon and last year in December I just happened upon this album through Real Rhapsody. I was amazed this slipped under my radar like it did. H-Town has great artist here, but the radio station suck!! When it comes to highlighting new music, especially underground cats, the stations have lost touch. Even the college radio stations sound like the commercialized stations now. I used to be able to listen to the college station and be able to keep up with the underground pretty well, but I don't want to go to deep into that. Sorry, for the long intro, but this album is a must have. This is real hip hop at its finest. Not one track sounds like anything anybody else has used. Which is what sets these legends apart from the same old same old I just want a hit and get rich and quit *explicative*. These cats flat out love to make new original music. Black Moon forever gets the props!!! 1 Love.
