Book Description

December 28, 2004
We stand at the brink of the culmination of history and the book of Revelation is the resource meant to inform and encourage faithful Christians about the events of the end-times that will intersect their lives, and to teach the spiritual lessons that are urgently needed to correct the church. Total Eclipse: Christ Returns is a fresh examination of Revelation that dispels myths and brings into the light events attending the second coming of Christ. Here is explained the sign of the end-times, the sudden, terrible desolation of God's people. Here we examine the identity and ministry of God's powerful witnesses, the identity and destruction of God's enemy, and the nature of the eternal habitation of God with His people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scholarly and Refreshing, January 2, 2005
This review is from: Total Eclipse: Christ Returns: A Commentary on the Revelation of Jesus Christ (Paperback)
Author Stephen Amy has done his research! After reading a dozen so-called commentaries that offer apocalyptic speculation instead of exegesis, this book is a breath of fresh air. It is as much about worship as it is about prophecy. According to Amy, the book of Revelation does reveal the future, but reveals even more about the present, and the way that Christ wishes to reveal Himself to us. The center of the book of Revelation is the Throne of God and Christ Himself. This book teaches us the how and why of worship at the altar.
The author dismisses the fantastic approaches to the book that have become popular in recent years, and sticks to the text itself and the intent of the author, the Apostle John. Amy shows how the message of Revelation is lost entirely when the wrong assumptions, such as a secret rapture, are made. The author clearly demonstrates (at least to the objective reader) that the "pre-tribulist rapture theory" is an assumption, not a conclusion. In fact, for many this theory has become a "lens" that can actually distort the vision that the Apostle John is relating.
"Total Eclipse" is the first book I have read that provides a cast of characters so that the reader can tell the white hats from the black. (Hint: "Those who dwell on the earth" is a technical term that describes one group. "The people from every tongue and tribe and nation" is a completely different one.)
This is a book that every serious Bible student will want to read and own and share with colleagues. The reader will not only learn a great deal about the when of Christ's return, he or she will learn more about Christ, who He is, and why He must return. "Total Eclipse, Christ Returns" unlocks the questions of "what" and "why." The "when" becomes much clearer, and at the same time, much less important. Readers who would rather hear the truth than to have their ears tickled will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worship Together in Truth, December 6, 2008
This review is from: Total Eclipse: Christ Returns: A Commentary on the Revelation of Jesus Christ (Paperback)
Pastor Stephen Amy's thorough study of Greek, and his integrity to be true to the Scriptures, provides vast insight into the prophecies of the Old Testament, and how they are reflected in the Revelation of Jesus Christ. Not just one prophetic verse here and there, but entire passages of prophecy are examined under the light of Jesus revealing Himself to John. After studying the Scriptures through this book, I immediately chose it for a group Bible study unlike any other! The author's years of dedication to searching the Word in truth and love has resulted in a comprehensive experience that brings believers to their knees before the throne of a more fully understood Jesus. You won't find a pre-tribulation rapture, replacement theology or date-setting. You will find meaning in the Scriptures that lead to a fuller understanding of the times in which we live and Who it is we worship. I thank God that Pastor Amy published his journey through the revealed Word of God!
