Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

For readers who are serious about studying feng shui, Too’s comprehensive book will prove an invaluable one-stop reference. Too has written 48 previous books on the subject, and her latest is colorfully arranged into sections that examine the "General Principles," the "Practical Techniques," "The Secret Formulas," the "Protective Symbols and Rituals," and the ways that feng shui can be applied to "Improving the Quality of Your Life." Each chapter is fully illustrated with diagrams, and there is a detailed glossary in the back. However, in spite of the neat layout and design, readers cannot simply dip in and out of this reference book. Many of the concepts and ideas presented build upon each other to such a point that the text can be incomprehensible to readers who haven’t started from the beginning. And novice students might struggle with feng shui’s complex strategies and theories, which involve calculating kua numbers and "activating" auspicious corners with plants and crystals. At times, Too’s advice can be impractical. For example, at one point she suggests that the best remedy for an irregularly shaped house "is to add another room" to the building. While many of the suggestions smack of superstition (i.e. "bury a symbolic wealth box in the Northwest of your garden"), several of the ideas are just common sense (i.e., "incorporate discrete lighting into all important areas and corners."). Followers of the practice will appreciate Too’s view that everyone is able to learn feng shui. "A feng shui master, no matter how good, can never be as good as you can be," she explains near the beginning of the volume. "When you are doing your own place, you are bound to be extra careful and fastidious."

4.0 out of 5 stars Writting is easy and brief. Does not explain well how to draw the Lo Shu chart, August 6, 2006

This review is from: Total Feng Shui: Bring Health, Wealth, and Happiness into Your Life (Paperback)
This book is basically the same idea of her hard cover book " The illustrated Encyclopedia of Feng Shui", but is written shortly and briefly. It is easy to read and understand, but may be too brief for some of the beginner and not deep enough for advanced reader. Especially when talking about Flying Star, there is no specific explanation about how to draw a chart of Lo Shu for each year.

4.0 out of 5 stars A well organized, easy to read book for those with some knowledge of feng shui, December 8, 2008
This review is from: Total Feng Shui: Bring Health, Wealth, and Happiness into Your Life (Paperback)
I own this book and find it very helpful. You need a basic understanding of the concept of feng shui, time,a good compass and an open mind as well as graph paper. I also own other feng shui books but they do not go into the explanation of the origins or talk about why certain directions are inharmonious. This book does both. She makes a distinct difference between space clearing and space cleaning which is important and not well addressed in other books of this nature that I have read. I found the parts on The Grand Jupiter and The Flying Star extremely interesting and am doing more research on those. I would recommend this book for an amateur to novice level reader. The first evening I read it, I did 3 simple things and within 24 hours had a welcome end to a long dispute, good financial news and my "tweenager"s attitude toward studying did a quick turn around. Interesting reading and well written. I would reccommend this book for someone who is looking to study feng shui not just a quick fix. Although it is amazing what simple changes can help to manifest!

2.0 out of 5 stars Hard to Follow, December 30, 2007
This review is from: Total Feng Shui: Bring Health, Wealth, and Happiness into Your Life (Paperback)
Hard to follow advice. I found The Idiots Guide to Feng Shui to be more useful. Sorry I couldn't be more positive. I received this book as a gift and will use it as a reference, but I can't recommend it to anyone as a guide.
