5.0 out of 5 stars BRAVO DR. BAUM! EDUCATIONAL YET UNDERSTANDABLE
As a person with a family history of heart disease I found Dr. Baum's book very informative. It gave me answers to many questions, but most importantly it gave me hope. I appreciate his approach to heart disease, integrating conventional medicine with complementary medicine. I have finally found a book that is understandable and truly makes sense. This book should be...

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to understand and practical, August 12, 2000

I got a kick out of the folks with many credentials who trashed this book in these reviews. My credential is a gone.. dead.. took two shocks to bring me back heart attack and then a lot of personal research into what happened. Oh yeah, I've got degrees.. in computer science.. so I need a book on this topic that is practical and accurate. None of the complainers said that Baum got anything wrong.. they just didn't like him being successful without paying big enough dues. All I can say is that this is a good and practical book with no bad advice. This is the BEST GIFT for anyone who has a heart problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars outstanding and informative guide for overall heart health, August 31, 1999
By A Customer
The Total Guide to a Healthy Heart is an outstanding and informative account combining both conventional and alternative approaches to preventing and reversing heart disease. It is written by one of the few triple board-certified Cardiologists in the country. Dr.Baum is a graduate of Columbia Medical School who has extensive clinical experience in the field of integrative cardiology. In my opinion it's the first book of its kind that gives the reader fluency in the language of Cardiology, enabling them to understand both conventional and complementaly approaches to heart disease.

5.0 out of 5 stars An expedition to the understanding and care of the heart !!!, August 31, 1999
By A Customer
I have just finished reading The Total Guide to a Healthy Heart by Dr. Seth Baum, which is one of the most informative, brilliantly written books about the heart and how it functions. As a member of a family which has been prone to heart disease, this book gives me great hope and understanding. Written in an engaging style, I enjoyed the personal level on which it's written and found the stories about Dr. Baum's patients extremely interesting. Dr. Baum's approach to medicine, which combines traditional and alternative treatments, his attention to a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle, will impact anyone who reads "The Total Guide To A Healthy Heart." Kudos to him!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Compassionate insight into the human experience of heart dis, September 1, 1999
By A Customer
This book should be read by everyone working in the medical field and anyone who has or loves someone with heart disease. The "real life" stories Dr. Baum uses are extremely effective in conveying factual information to the reader as well as evoking heart felt compassion for anyone dealing with heart disease. I appreciate the lists of vitamins and herbs and the dosage ranges. It's refreshing to see a doctor dispensing knowledge which empowers patients to partner with their physicians in order to take better care of themselves. I enjoyed this book as it took me on a journey into the cardiovascular system and made a somewhat cofusing area easy to understand. Dr. Baum recounts actual patient experiences in his book which reinforces the value of his clilnical experience and intuition when treating patients. If I or anyone I loved suffered from a heart condition, his is an opinion I would certainly seek out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, UNDERSTANDABLE, introduction to heart., August 31, 1999
By A Customer
Was particularly impressed with the training - triple board certified graduate of Columbia University School of Medicine- and clinical experience the author has had in traditional cardiology. He has given the reader the unique opportunity to become fluent in the language of the heart. After reading this book I feel I have had a knowledgeable, but personal guide lead me thru the up until now mysterious center of my being, my heart. My only regret is that I do not live close enough to become a patient at his center and under his care. This book is readable, UNDERSTANDBLE, and very informative. I now feel able to be an advocate of my own health care. Thankyou Dr Baum!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book Thank You Dr. Baum!, October 15, 1999
By A Customer
I just finished reading a Total Guide To A Healthy Heart and it has helped me tremendously! My father is very sick with heart disease and I am the only family member who helps him make decisions about his health care. Many times the doctors involved in my father's care went thru many choices often in a hurry. The responsibility of choosing correctly when you love some one is stressful. Dr. Baum's book explained all options for various heart conditions in a compassionate understanding way! It gave me the confidence to help my father make the right choices! God Bless You Dr.Baum!

I am a Double Boarded Cardiologist who has practiced Alternative and Traditional Cardiology for the past 10 years. I happen to know that DR. Baum recently entered the field of alternative or integrative medicine, and has summarized what he has recently read in this manual. He uses "triple board certification" as a reason he is qualified to write about integrative medicine, however, he fails to point out that all cardiologists are at least double board certified, and many are triple and even quadruple board certified. In addition, these board certifications do not require any knowledge of alternative or integrative medicine. Furthermore, there are many highly qualified physicians who are graduating programs of specialization in this field, such as Dr. Weil's specialty program in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. These individuals are not small in number, and represent the true experts in this field. My hope is that in the near future these true leaders will emerge, and not allow many of the vitamin selling opportunists to discredit this field. I feel it to be shameful that a minority of MD's are using their MD degree in order to profit from an area of health care that thay are not experts in.
