Excellent value, March 2, 2004
This review is from: Total Gym 1500 (Sports)
I was skeptical of buying a piece of exercise equipment that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I doubted that any machine with a price tag of only $250 could provide an seven semi-quality exercise experience. Having used this exact model for over a year, I can confirm that the Total Gym really does produce results, as long as you remain commited to working out with it three or four times a week. There is no assembly required, the machine comes out of the box, you unfold it and you're ready to go. There is a easy-to-follow video which you can watch in order to learn the various exercises. The machine is especially strong in working the triceps and quadriceps in the legs. The squat exercises on the lower board are superior to squats you can do with free weights. The range of motion on the machine is good. My only small criticism is the construction of this model. It's rather flimsy, though I use it almost daily and it's held up perfectly well over 1.5 years of use. The push off bars lose their cloth covering pretty quickly, but you can still use them without a problem. You can pay $1500 for the top of the line Total Gym that Christie Brinkley and Chuck Norris use on their infomercials, but the only essential difference between the expensive model and this one is more padding and slightly more sturdy pull handles. For the money, you can't beat this machine. If you commit to the Total Gym, you will notice results within 4 weeks.

Fun and Easy way to a magnificient body, August 6, 2004
This review is from: Total Gym 1500 (Sports)
I was 30 lbs overweight when I bought Total Gym. The machine comes fully assembled. You just have to adjust it according your requirements.
After a few minutes of setup, I immediately tried a quick and easy workout (bicep curls). Within minutes I realized that Total Gym is the real deal. It can make you thinner and stronger in just 20 minutes a day, 3 times a week. I know that there are tons of products out there making the same claim, but if you want to invest in your health, this is one of the best ones.
Here are all the pros and cons:
POSITIVES:
1) Comes Fully assembled. You have to make bare minimum adjustments according to your goals and fitness level.
2) As the ad says, replaces an entire gym. You can do virtually any excercise on Total Gym.
3) It is fun and easy. Once you start your workout, it is hard to stop
4) Comes with a video that guides you through some basic excercises and also shows you the ones used by LA firefighters.
5) Compact and very easy to store away.
NEGATIVE
1) You gotta stick with the plan. Don't give up and you will be a very happy, thinner and stronger person within 10 weeks.
Remember, you have to excercise and eat healthy to get back and then stay in shape. Total Gym will help you do it.
For those who are wondering, yes I lost all excess weight and gained new muscle. Most people I meet think I am much younger than I really am!

This is great, but spend more for the next model up!, November 21, 2004
This review is from: Total Gym 1500 (Sports)
The total gym has several different models with bascially the same features. With this model, you can do everything that you can do with the more expensive model, but... in hindsight, I wish I bought the "better" model. The biggest difference is in the foot plate/hand extension. It takes only a few moments to add the piece of hardware on to do the next exercise, but depending on mood, it was sometimes enough to dissuade me. You don't NEED to do the other exercises, but I probably would do them more often if I didn't have to stop my routine to do it. If this is all you can afford, then this is a GREAT machine and you'll be very happy with it. If you can afford a wee bit more -- you'll be happier with one of the next models up.
