Excellent product,

The total gym is a terrific supplement to weight and cardio training.
It is espesially good if you play sports such as baseball, tennis, racquetball, etc. This machine really strenghtens and stretches all muscles around the shoulders. The TG1400 is better made and cheaper than the infomercial total gym although it is still pretty pricey. In fact this is the model Chuck Norris endorses on his web site. The price is why I do not give 5 stars. Use it for 10-20 minutes at the start of your day then go run a mile or two afterward and you will feel the benefits. It does take up a lot of space and is a pain to put it away. I leave it set up at all times.

At 310 lbs I was worried this would not feel sturdy enough. But website said 400 lbs limit. No problem...like a rock.
Other gyms wouldn't work in my studio, but I have this set up to rest under my Murphy bed (7 inch clearance). I remove the padded board, still connected by pulley, and lay it next to gym. Almost an inch to spare. It's ready to go when I put the bed away. It's heavy so putting it in closet every day would be a workout...but if I plan to have guests over, it will fit when I need it to. Living in a condo and working at a computer all day, I don't have daily excuse to get upper body workout...no shoveling or raking...no carrying ladders or bags of leaves or barrows of yard waste and stones. So having this at the ready for a quick workout feels great. Also helps stretching out shoulder stiffened by non-use. I can work out nearly every muscle in my upper body just by changing rotation of wrists or turning around on the board. Other exercises will require adjusting attachments, but that's no more difficult than setting weights on the machines that the gym. the machine is almost 8 ft long. this is just big enough for my 6ft height. The pulley end of the machine is really pretty narrow...maybe 2 feet....it is your arm span that will dictate how much space you need. You can put the pulley end almost to the wall...just need room to grab the lever to lift the rails. I bought one of their 'scratch and dent' models.....I cannot find a flaw in either machine or packaging. They apparently have high standards. Free shipping even to Hawaii!

Total Gym XLSI'm 60 my next birthday, a grandmother of 4, terribly out of shape, and I weigh, well... well over 200 pounds. I gave up on years of frustrated dieting and decided to concentrate on moving and getting stronger instead. (For the moving, I'm having a ball with Kinetic!)
For the getting stronger, I ordered the Total Gym XLS. It was delivered to my door; I had to move it from my apartment hallway into my apartment. It was a bit of a drag (literally), but not too hard - and not too heavy. I ripped the carton open (the instructions that tell you how to open the box properly are INSIDE the box - duh!) and pretty much got it set up with no instructions. It really does come 99% assembled and ready to go! If you are going to unpack a TG, take time to watch the included video first. The video gives much clearer instructions than the "quick setup" printed guide. The video also gives you a great introduction to beginning exercises... it made much more sense after I watched the video. You really can use it right away. At my age and out-of-shapeness, I set it on the #1 and #2 settings. But, just for fun, I tried a few exercises on #3 and it wasn't impossible. Two years ago I had massive rotator cuff surgery that required a year of recuperation and therapy. So far, I've found only one exercise (pull up), that I've chosen not to do because I think it's a bit dangerous for my well-healed-yet-somewhat-fragile shoulder. I am amazed at how many of the exercises are the same exact thing I did at the rehab center (using different equipment). But one of the primary pieces of equipment used for my rehab was - a set of pulleys! Duh again! I think this is a super purchase! NOW-ONE WARNING... this thing is HUGE! It looks smaller on TV because our buddy Chuck has it on a higher incline, which reduces some of the length. On the lowest incline, and not folded up, it requires a space at least 8 feet long x 3-4 feet wide, depending on how "fly" you move your arms. Don't let that stop you from getting one - just make sure you have enough space. Enjoy!
