Amazing ppv!,
This review is from: Total Nonstop Action Wrestling: Bound for Glory 2006 (DVD)
X division battle royal - 6.5/10
I enjoyed this match but it was nothing special. Some nice spots. 4 courner tag match, Team 3D vs. The Naturals Vs. The James Gang (Now VKM) vs. AMW. - 6/10 Another match that was fun to watch. It was really short but was good for the time it was given. Monsters Ball, Brother Runt vs. Raven Vs. Abyss Vs Samoa Joe - 9/10 This was an Awesome match with some amazing spots including Runt getting tossed into the crowd, Joe doing a corkscrew over the top and landing on his feet, Runt getting choke slammed from a scaffolding and Abyss's face getting sentoned into a pile of tacks. Larry Zbyszko Vs. Eric Young - 3/10 A boring filler. Larry gets fired. X Division championship, Senshi Vs. Chris Sabin - 10/10 An incredible display. These two put on a fantastic wrestling match that brought tou to your feet and reminded you why the X Division is as great as it is said to be. 8 Mile Street Fight, Christian Cage Vs. Rhino - 8/10 This was a really good match with a good story line. The camera work was terrible but there were some cool spots and a surprise ending. Tag Team title, six sides of steel match, LAX Vs. Aj Styles. 10/10 This was the rubber match between these two teams and it was superb. All four men had great chemistry and put on a bloody high risk match. AJ's cross body from the top was amzing, Match of the night along with Senshi Vs. Sabin NWA world title match, Sting Vs. Jeff Jerret - 7/10 This match had a terrible storyline but ended up being pretty good. There were some good moments but it was too predictable. A good way to end the show. Overall, this was the best PPV I have seen in a long time. Buy It!

Good But They've Had Better PPV's,
By
This review is from: Total Nonstop Action Wrestling: Bound for Glory 2006 (DVD)
Earlier in the year, I called WrestleMania 22 a good but disappointing show because some matches shouldn't have been on the card & some didn't live up to expectations set for an event you hype up as being "The Biggest Event Of The Year." Well, TNA followed that same formula with Bound For Glory because again, it was a good show but they've had better shows earlier in the year that didn't make the mistakes that they did on this show & WWE did with their WrestleMania. One big positive thing that did standout through was the PPV coming from different location than the Impact Zone with a larger crowd so you got the feeling from the start that this was a special show right off the bat. And incase anyone is wondering, the preshow is not available on this DVD so the Robert Roode match where he revealed Traci Brooks as his new manager is not on here.
X Division Gauntlet - The X division is always a good way to kick off the show and this gauntlet and it was a nice mix with the regulars who can deliever (Williams, Sonjay, Lethal, Shelley)...familiar faces (Zach Gowen & Sierlda)...and even some humor (the referee & a midget). Again a good mix of everything & a good way to start things off. Team 3D vs. AMW vs. James Gang vs. Naturals - This was one of the disappointing moments because this match was too short to showcase what TNA's tag team division is capable of. It's just not good when you have 4 of their top tag teams on the biggest show of the year & they only go around 7 mins. Monster's Ball: Abyss vs. Samoa Joe vs. Brother Runt (Spike Dudley) vs. Raven - This was a step below last years match but that doesn't mean it wasn't good as it was a good four way brawl with even Jake "The Snake" Roberts getting involved from time to time, however if your looking for the Samoa Joe "wrestling clinic" that he has a reputation for, you won't find it in this match. Eric Young vs. Larry Zbyszko - This match was put here as an excuse to get Larry off of television since he was leaving TNA. This was the equilivent of the Boogeyman vs. Booker T & Sharmell match from Mania in which it was something that shouldn't have been on the PPV & the time could have been given to another match on the card (ala the tag team match earlier). X Division Champion Senshi vs. Chris Sabin - This match made up for their disappointing match the previous month at No Surrender where the "Jackass" crap ruined the match. Sabin went hard & Senshi's unique style meshed well & put on one heck of a performance. 8 Mile Street Fight: Christian Cage vs. Rhino - Eventhough it looks stupid having two "brawls with weapons" matches on the same PPV, this match was completely different than the Monster's Ball earlier. They have the formula of starting outside the building, brawling through backstage, and making it into the ring. Christian was the cocky heel & Rhino was the hometown boy who never quit. This was a great non-stop weapons brawl. Six Sides Of Steel: Tag Team Champions Daniels & Styles vs. LAX - Third time is the charm because this is the third straight PPV in that these teams stole the show & had the match of the night. It doesn't top their previous 3 matches but it ranks right up there with their previous matches. Look out for AJ's flip dive off the top of the cage. Kurt Angle as Special Enforcer: NWA Champion Jeff Jarrett vs. Sting - This wasn't their "paint by numbers" match like they had a Hard Justice but again, it wasn't the best match to end the show on. This was the conclusion of the 10 month storyline between Sting & Jarrett. Sting had a new look & looked in the best shape in years (include before WCW closed). This match was better than you would expected it to be but didn't live up to the hype of being "the main event of the biggest show of the year." The match delievered in the end & give the fans what they wanted to see: Sting winning the title & removing Jarrett from TNA. Also somewhere on this PPV is a big brawl between Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe that continued the buildup towards their Genesis match the next month. DVD extras include a photo gallery for the PPV, footage from the Fan Interaction weekend, and Kurt Angle's TNA debut on Impact where he confronts Samoa Joe. Overall, I would say there were only 2 bad matches while the rest are above average with some that are just outstanding (the tag team cage match). This is a DVD that I would recommend but if your looking for the best available from this year, I would check into No Surrender, Hard Justice, Lockdown, Scarifice, Slammiversary, and Against All Odds first.

80-76%-perfect
75-71%-awsome 70-66%-good 65-61%-poor 60-56%-awful 1. The Kevin Nash Open Invintational X Divison Gauntlet Battle Royal- This was the right choice to kick off the show in my opinion. It was not amazing by any means but it was still a very solid fast pace opening contest. They gave this match enough time to develop at 17 minutes long. There were some but nice high flying spots but mostly just solid wrestling. Winner Alex Shely. Match Rating 7/10. 2. Four Corner Tag Tea match Team 3D vs. AMW vs. The James Gang vs. The Naturals- This was a decent match but it was deffenilty a step down from the first match of the evening. It seemed like a filler to me. They Kept it short which was nice. This match started out as a regular tag team match but it broke down into a tornado tag match. Some close near falls but team 3D got the win so that was a surprise. Winners Team 3D. Match Rating 6/10. 3. The Monster Ball Match Samoa Joe vs. Abyss vs. Runt vs. Raven- This was the first really good match of the evening. This was a step down form the first monster ball match but still very good. This was just a spot fest gallor. There were chairs, tacks, tables, and street signs. There were some nice table spots in the beginning of the match. There were some nice high flying spots including one were abyss hit a flying elbow drop off the top of the stage. There were also some really nice chair shots but the best part of the whole match was when Samoa Joe hit a Famaser like move on Abyss that sent him face first into the thumb tacks. A really good match that got your blood pumping. Winner Samoa Joe. Match Rating 8/10. 4. Loser gets Fired Match Eric Young vs. Larry Zbysko- I will say this match was terrible. I think they put this on the card so they could slow down the crowd after the monster ball match. This match was kept short at 4 minnutes long and basically only a one move and that was a shot to the back of the head by eric to larry with brass knucks. Winner Eric Young. Match Rating 1.5/10. 5. Senshi vs. Chris Sabin for the X-Division title- This was a start of really good matches to the ppv. The crowd was behind both people because it was sabins hometown. Just an okay match to start but it started to pick up. There were lots of high flying moves in this match. Including a suicide dive to the outside by sabin. Than came a set of near falls that you were almost sure were going to win the match. A rollup ended the match but a great match that got the crowd fired up and both men got a standing ovation after the match. Winner and new X-Division Champ Chris Sabin. Match Rating 8.5/10. 6. Christian Cage vs. Rhino in an 8 mile street fight- This was another solid match but I was expecting a little more form this match. It started off backstage a little boring but once they got to the ring the action picked up. There were tons of weapons including ladders, tables, street signs, and chairs. There was na sick moment were rhino gored Christian gored rhino through a table. Also rhino hit a jumping piledriver through a table on the outside. In the end Christian hit a unpreietter on a broken table to get the win. Winner Christian Cage. Match Rating 8.5/10. 7. Christopher Danials and AJ Styles vs. LAX in a sic sides of steel match for the tag team titles- This was an awesome match and a match of the year candidate. This was a great fued with both teams having one win over each other already. There was a lot of blood spilled in this match. This match started out like a regaular tag match but it soon broke down. LAX brought some sort of knife into the ring and started stabbing Danials with it. There was a nice hurricanrana form the top rope but nothing will beat the move AJ pulled off a cross body form the top of the cage on LAX. At the end one member of LAX hit a sick move on AJ for the pin. Winners and new TNA tag team champs LAX. Match Rating 9.5/10. 8. Jeff Jarret vs. Sting with special enforcer Kurt Angle for the TNA title- This was not a classic by any means but it was still a solid match. A lot of this had to do with Kurt Angle being in the match as the crowd was jacked up all night. Jarret started off the match controlling most of it was taken outside but kurt did his job and kept the match in the ring. There was a ref bump and Jarret hit sting with the gatar but it did not affect him and angle came in the ring and attacked jarret. Winner and new tna champ Sting. Match Rating 7.5/10. Well that raps up another I would give TNA bound for glory a grade of a 56.5/80 which is a 71% which means this is an awesome ppv. If u can tell me if my review was helpful or not I would appreciate that thanks for your time.

The Jeff Jarrett-Sting NWA World championship match was slightly above-average for a Jarrett PPV title bout. The 6 sides fo steel cage match for the NWA World tag team championship between L.A.X(Homicide & Hernandez) against the team of AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels was not great but pretty good for a steel cage PPV title match. The X Division championship match between Chris Sabin & Senshi was a heart-stopping,high-flying,nail-biting showstealing match of the night. The 8 mile streetfight between Rhino & Christian Cage was a pretty good solid brawl. The Eric Young-Larry Zbyszko-Loser Gets Fired match was a slow, short, dumb filler. The 4 way Monster's Ball match was a good reminder of the 1990's ECW. The 4 Corners tag team match was good for a 4 corners bout. The Kevin Nash Open Invitational Battle Royal while not a bad match,I still think of it as a "Big Lipped Alligator Moment" I give BFG 2006 a 7 out of 10.

This being the 2nd ppv, Bound for Glory has established in being Tna's grandness stage of the year. Earlier in the year, Wrestlemania 22 was somewhat a disappointment only due to some of the matches on the card didn't belonged there, this is the same deal with Bound for Glory. I do felt that Bound for Glory is slightly better than Wrestlemania 22 but not a whole much better.
1. X-Division Gaunlet Battle Royal Invitational Open This had a variety of things which turned out to be a pretty good opener. It had standard Royal Rumble rules until the final two which would then come down to a pinfall encounter. The x-division...(Williams, Shelly, Lethal, Dutt, Starr) all performed pretty well with a couple of humor added to the match...(the referee & a midget). The match was a good choice and all the elements worked in very well. Good opener. 4/5 2. Four Corners Tag Team Match America's Most Wanted vs. Naturals vs. Team 3D vs. James Gang This match started out good but as it progressed it turned into a disappointment. The main reason being it was a short match, barely over 5 minutes. It had a few good spots but this could have been a ton better. 3/5 3. Monster's Ball with Jake Roberts as the Special Ref Abyss vs. Samoa Joe vs. Brother Runt vs. Raven This wasn't as good as 05's but it was still good nevertheless. It went slow at some points with not a whole lot of weapons being used. Joe really added some agility to match. Abyss looked good as well. A good match but this too could have been better. 4/5 4. Eric Young vs. Larry Zbyszko This match had no reason being here whatsoever. This match easily could have been on impact. Eric mostly ammuses the crowd the whole time with Larry doing abosutly nothing . Horrible match. 1/5 5. X-Division Championship Senshi vs. Chris Sabin Now this is defiantely BFG material. Sabin really went full blast, going hard all the way through and Senshi's style and Sabin's mesh pretty well as the match went on. Both men took some sick shots with a bunch of close pinfalls and reversals. This match really picked things up and this was a great x-division match. If it wasn't for the six sides of steel, this would have been the match of the night. 5/5 6. 8 Mile Street Fight Christian Cage vs. Rhino This match was a lot different than from the monster's ball match. They started out in the back and then fought all the way up to the ring where it became a total beat down weapons fest. Christian takes a sick piledriver into a table by Rhino. I felt this was the best match these two has had during their feud at this time period. Much better street fight than the monster's ball. 4.5/5 7. Six Sides of Steel for the NWA Tag Team Championship Latin American Xchange w/ Konan vs. AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels Now this is what I'm talking about. Styles, Daniels, & LAX manage to have a phenomenal match and still have violence to take place as well. This match was very violent. LAX brings out a fork into the match and uses it on Daniels and that was a very gory site to see. There were some good double team moves used by Daniels & Styles in this one. Styles even crossbodies Hernandez from the top of the cage which was very phenomenal! This was just an awesome match, I really loved this one. Match of the night. 5/5 8. Title vs. Career with Kurt Angle as the Special Enforcer NWA World Champion Jeff Jarrett vs. Sting This match had a 10 month build up to ever since Sting returned to wrestling back at Final Resolution. Sting looked in better shape than he ever was in. Sting and Jarrett had a good match but I felt this too could have been better but we all got what we wanted from this one. Sting and Jarrett had a good match inside the ring and a good brawl on the outside. Angle did a decent job as the enforcer. This was a little bit of a disappointment being the main event but it was a good way to begin a new TNA era with Sting as the champion and Angle being a part of the TNA roster. 4.5/5 Bound for Glory I felt could have been better but they made up for it in 2007's. I would get 2007's before I would 2006's if I was yall but this was a good buy for me anyways.

While I slam TNA in past reviews, Ive learned to like TNA in the recent month. TNA too me is still over crowded with former WWE stars but I still enjoy some matches they put on. I'll first tell what is bad about this ppv then end on the good notes.
Bad: Career VS Title match is a basic give away to knowledgeable wrestler fans. Monsters Ball was the worst one Ive seen so far. Loser Gets Fired match could have been saved for the Impact show instead of this PPV. Cornette also makes an announcement on the telecast that could have been saved for the Impact show. Six Sides of Steel match was good but it was short. Good: Cage beating Rhino in the street fight was awesome. I loved the fans looks as Cage pinned Rhino, they really thought Rhino would win this match. Sting and Jarrett started slow but finished a great match. I enjoyed this PPV for the most part, and I have recently bought more TNA dvds. Check out TNA's website for amazing deals in there shopzone.

This review is from: Total Nonstop Action Wrestling: Bound for Glory 2006 (DVD)
-A great PPV put on a TNA wrestling, this is their "Wrestlemania" and is live (or as live as DVD can be) from Detroit, MI (actually Plymouth, MI, but they keep saying Detroit, so I'll go with that).
-Nice opening video package, great way to hype the main events of the PPV and we go to Detroit, I mean Plymouth or whatever. -The Kevin Nash Open Invitational X Division Gauntlet Battle Royal: Despite having a title almost as long as the introduction to "WWE's Royal Rumble", this was a good match actually. The idea of this match is 2 wrestlers start out, then every 60 seconds another wrestler appears and elimination occurs by being thrown over the top rope to the floor. When there are two men left a referee will come in and the last fall will be decided by pinfall or submission. -The list of wrestlers are: Austin Starr, Sonjay Dutt, "Maverick" Matt Bentley, Jay Lethal, A-1, Zach Gowen, Kazarian, Sirelda, Shark Boy, Alex Shelley, D-Ray 3000, Johnny Devine, "Primetime" Elix Skipper, "Short Sleeve" Sampson (a midget), Norman Smiley, Petey Williams and Referee Slick Johnson, who lasts about 10 seconds. -Good match had by all, plenty of high flying moves, except by A-1 and Sirelda, geez she's huge and odd looking, like a bigger Steffi Graf. Takes a few minutes for anyone to be eliminated, then they start coming fairly often, the most noteable though was Sirelda barely lasting more than 30 seconds. The action comes pretty fast though not as fast as other X-Division matches. Wicked and sick Canadian Destroyer by Williams. The last two men are Jay Lethal and Austin Starr (whose lasted from the beginning) and Starr wins quickly after with his starstruck brainbuster for the pinfall. Match lasted about 17 minutes. 9/10. -Four Corners Tag Team Match: Team 3D vs. America's Most Wanted vs. The James Gang vs. The Naturals: Shane Douglas introduces the Naturals and every team makes their entrance and all these entrances are almost as long as the match itself. Not a bad match though, pretty fast paced. A few highlights are Brother Ray and B.G. James doing tandem bionic elbows on both AMW members and a tower of doom suplex with The Naturals and AMW. The best part of the match is the about minute long one-uping by all the wrestlers, as one man hits a move then gets hit by another and that guy gets hit by a move too. The finish comes when Team 3D hits the 3D on Andy Douglas of the Naturals for the win in about 7 minutes. 8/10. -Monster's Ball: Abyss vs. Samoa Joe vs Brother Runt vs Raven w/Special Referee Jake "The Snake" Roberts: Nice interview segment beforehand with Jake Roberts, creepy, but cool. Highlights include a flipping corkscrew dive by Joe on all three men and he lands on his feet, Runt being thrown from the scaffolding onto a part of the stage and the following elbow drop by Runt onto Abyss. Also Joe being thrown through a table by Raven and Joe hits a senton splash on Abyss who goes face first into the tacks. Jake Roberts gets a DDT in on Raven and Joe hits the Musclebuster on Raven for the pinfall in about 11 minutes. Good hardcore match, better than the first one at Victory Road '04, but not as good as the second one at last years Bound For Glory. 8/10. -Loser Gets Fired: Eric Young vs. Larry Zbyszko: Pretty pointless one here, Larry was going to leave TNA so this was a way to write him off. Funny stuff with Young getting a reaction from the crowd everytime he pointed at himself then boos when he pointed at Larry. About 2 minutes pass before they lock up then a minute later Young hits Larry with some brass knucks for the win. 2/10, for the funny Eric stuff. -Jim Cornette announcement: Basically hyping up the Angle/Joe rivalry. Joe and Angle get into it and Joe is removed from the building. Not a bad segment. -X-Division Championship: Chris Sabin vs. Senshi (Champion): Good X-Title match, though there is more wrestling holds then I thought there would be. Loved the submission moves Senshi used throughout the match to ground Sabin. Nice suicide dive by Sabin through the ropes onto Senshi on the outside. Great delayed dropkick by Sabin in the corner on Senshi. The finish came when Sabin reversed a dragon sleeper into a small package for the win in about 12 minutes. New X-Division champion Chris Sabin. 8/10. -Great interview by Christian, slamming Rhino and Detroit, great heat getter. -8 Mile Street Fight: "The War Machine" Rhino vs. Christian Cage: Great hardcore match, better than Monster's Ball. Both men start outside the arena and fight there way inside, loved the spot where Rhino drives a zamboni with Cage on the roof and knocked him off of it, brought back memories of Austin v. McMahon in '97. Rhino basically dominates for the first couple of minutes then Cage takes over. Lots of weapon use, including a street sign, some steel chairs, a ladder and couple of tables. Christian even ties a straight jacket on Rhino. Great Rhino driver on Christian through a table on the outside. The finish comes when Christian piles steel chairs, the road sign, a broken table and a ladder on Rhino then slams him repeatedly with another steel chair then pins him for the win in about 15 minutes. 10/10. -Nice interview segment with LAX, mainly Konnan talking about what LAX will do to AJ & Daniels. Great talker that Konnan. -Six Sides of Steel for the World Tag Team Championships: LAX w/ Konnan vs. AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels (Champions): Great cage match, plenty of high spots including a tower of doom with everyone but AJ followed by a sick splash off the top of the cage by AJ. Some brutal spots like Homicide using a fork on Daniels and using a coat hanger on Daniels. The finish comes when Hernandez hit AJ with a vicious clothesline that allowed Homicide to hit the Gringo Killer (man that's a sick move) on AJ for the win in about 15 minutes. New Tag Team Champions LAX. 9/10. -NWA World Heavyweight Championship: Title vs. Career Match: Sting vs. Jeff Jarrett (Champion) w/Special Enforcer Kurt Angle: All three men make their entrances, Sting's is pretty cool in the sense that he looks way different as he lost about 20 pounds during his two month hiatus prior to this match. Liked the fact that the crowd booed Jarrett a lot but also booed Sting some too. -This is a pretty basic main event actually, Jarrett does most of the work, at one point Angle hits the referree with his patented slam and takes over as the ref for the match. Sting makes a bit of the comeback, but Jarrett gets Sting in the figure-four leg lock, then slaps on the ankle lock right in front of Angle. Sting reverses out and gets Jarrett outside of the ring. Sting goes for his bat, Angle stops him and Jarrett sneaks up and hits the guitar over Sting's head. But Sting no sells it and puts Jarrett in the Scorpion Daeth Lock for the win in about 15 minutes. New NWA Champion Sting. 5/10. Major league pop for the no sell of the guitar shot and the finish. Great PPV overall, despite the Loser get's fired match and the semi-sleep inducing main event. Well worth the price of about $15-20. |
