Way underrated,

This review is from: Total Recall 2070 (DVD)
This "movie" is the first two episodes of an awesome TV series. It is a captivating blend of 80% Blade Runner, 15% Total Recall, and 5% Data from Star Trek. The plot is dark and intriguing. Character development is excellent. Cyberpunk 2020 role-playing fans should love this. I just hope that episodes 3-22 come out on DVD - the sooner, the better.

I bought this DVD after having seen several episodes of the series. It's much better than the movie in my opinion. It is a very well done show and would have done better if it had been given a decent time slot. I hope the rest of the series makes it to DVD.

Amazing science fiction- no comparison,

I have never before seen a show that offered such a perfect mixture of science fiction, action and suspense. The characters are believable, the set is masterful and the storyline is engaging. It is the most compelling, adult entertainment that I have ever enjoyed. In fact, I was so impressed with it that I made a point of programming it on my set, looking up its associated web sites and now contacting Showtime to continue support of this unique program. This show deserves a chance - and the audience is out there to support it. I will tell you one thing that is lacking though - IT NEEDS MARKETING! I never knew it was out there until I happened on it by accident. Now I make a point of watching it every weekend and I guarantee that if it were marketed appropriately it would gather a huge following. It is definitely worth buying, worth watching and worth supporting!

The Bladerunner TV series,

This review is from: Total Recall 2070 (DVD)
If you're expecting Total Recall 2070 to be a continuation of the Arnie film from 1990, then you'd be wrong, however, you won't be disappointed, it's BETTER!It's really the Bladerunner TV series. The same issues with androids, the same tops of buildings with large extractor fans turning slowly with steam bellowing from the ground. What stops it from becoming the usual TV series based on a film is a compelling plot and the boldness to have nudity, violence and strong language. Picture and sound quality are good although nothing special. The computer graphics of the city sometimes look a bit dodgy. Really worth getting!

Outstanding science fiction,

This is one of the best works of science fiction I have seen in a long time. The set is masterful and is reiminiscent of the setting from Blade Runner. The handsome Micheal Easton plays a tough, street-smart detective with a gentle streak for his beautiful wife. His partner, Farve is an android who is the perfect counterpoint for Easton's no-nonsense character. The storyline is thought-provoking yet still maintains an action-packed, entertaining quality. Overall, I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves cerebral science fiction.

I remember watching this on late night cable when I was 19 or 20 and thinking, "This show is AMAZING!!!" and then one day it was gone as quietly as it had appeared. I was just recently watching Total Recall when I remembered this. So I looked it up, found Machine Dreams and bought it. I LOVE this show, and coming from me, that's a huge thing to say, because I make it my business to watch EVERY TV show and critique it. I can't even count how many GREAT shows I've come across in the past decade that disappeared after a season due to funding, time slot or marketing errors. The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., Firefly, Cleopatra 2525... and now Total Recall: 2070!
This show is just the perfect combination of old school detective novels, sensual sex, science fiction and action!!! I was very dissapointed to find out that only Machine Dreams (basically the 2 hour pilot for the series) is out on DVD currently, but as have others stated, I'm going to email Showtime's (cbs's) PR department and see if I can get a response as to when, or if, they plan to release the whole season at some point. If you enjoyed this, I highly recommend you taking the same action. In all, I would definitely recommend Total Recall: 2070 "Machine Dreams" to anyone looking for a great way to enjoy 1 hour and 20 minutes in their evening.!!! Thanks, TheRamer

I agree with the guy from Seattle; they should have made it clearer that this was a series pilot! It was great, visually attractive and the plot and characterization was excellent. It just left too many loose ends to make it on its own as a film, though I would *love* to see the rest of the series! It's kind of like watching _Fellowship of the Ring_ and not knowing that there are more movies coming!

Whilst I am a huge fan of Michael Easton to be honest the opening episodes of htis show aren't the greatest. The plot is confusing, the gritty backdrop is undermined by total lack of explanation or history, and the writing at times downright shoddy. Nevertheless the actors do well with what they're given and it does rate well on the originality stakes. It's worth sticking with this show for it does improve vastly, promising to be one of the better arc series of the past few years - that is, before it was cancelled.

Sci-fi grows up,
By A Customer
This review is from: Total Recall 2070: Machine Dreams [VHS] (VHS Tape)
First episode in the Total Recall 2070 series. Extraordinarily well planned and executed, this intelligent and, yes, "cerebral" (where have I heard that before?) adult sci-fi series was badly mishandled in terms of its publicity campaign, which emphasized its spectacular sets and spfx. This is no Swartzenegger car-crash-and-gun-battle piece of fluff. The "look" is panaramic, as reminiscent of "Dark City" as it is "Blade Runner"; the actors are polished and capable; the story is as dark and moody as the sets; the themes are complex. Action takes a back-seat to character development. Hume and Farve are a much darker, even more complex set of partners than Sykes and Francisco. Is the charming Farve Hume's loyal partner, or his worst enemy? How did he end up at the CPB? "Stay tuned and find out." A sub-plot begun with this episode would be continued throughout the next 20 episodes of the tv series. Slow and tricky to "get into", TR2070 pays off big-time. It is definately worth the time investment.

A weak start for a strong series,
By Steve Roby (Ottawa, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Total Recall 2070: Machine Dreams [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The movies Total Recall and Blade Runner were both loosely based on the works of Philip K. Dick, though Blade Runner came closer to the feel of Dick's world. TR2070 borrows elements of both Total Recall and Blade Runner, and throws in elements from cop shows, film noir, The X-Files, and more, ultimately becoming a compelling TV drama that ended prematurely. Unfortunately, the series premiere only hints at what's to come later. Instead, it apes Blade Runner too closely for comfort. Worth seeing? Certainly; despite some obvious visual influences, it has a look of its own, and the beginning of some good characterizations. And if the video release is successful enough to be followed by releases of the episodes on video, so much the better.
