They are laminated, have very strong chemical smell even after "cooking" them with hot water. I throw them away because I am afraid those chemical may harm the health.

These chopsticks are a bit difficult to use, even for someone who has been using chopsticks a few times per month for many years. They are laminated, and make it difficult to grasp slippery foods like the udon in soup.

I also find these a bit too light for my taste. I prefer a heavier chopstick, because they feel more comfortable in my hand. Some people prefer the lightweight types, but I don't.

They do work fine for foods that aren't very slippery. I have no problem using them to eat fried rice, sesame chicken, or even mongolian beef. They're also durable, and they have stood up to many washings in the dishwasher with no cracks or warping.

Since I eat a lot of udon noodle soup, these chopsticks aren't as useful as I had hoped. If I only used them for this, I would rate these two stars. But because they work okay for other foods and are durable, I will give them four stars. Their durability is really their saving grace for me.

I will preface this review by stating up front that I am not a "connoisseur" of chopsticks.

That said, I think these things are fantastic. They look nice, are easy to grip (they are rather large - not dainty at all), are a breeze to clean, and are highly functional. I paid less than $8 for five pair, so my whole family can enjoy (or be frustrated by) using them casually as they please. My children, 6 and 3, like to try them out when they see my wife or I using them, so we have slight bite marks, scratches, etc., on them already (after about a month of owning them) and it does not bother us one bit because they are both durable and inexpensive.

If you are a casual user of chopsticks and aren't sure what to get (or don't want to invest a lot in experimenting), I highly recommend these.

This is much better and looks like healthier than my previous ones. The old one was decorated with fancy drawings but it didn't last long. This bamboo ones seemed like stronger and being natural bamboo actually more useful for various purpose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and easy to use, July 27, 2011

I have always preferred bamboo chopsticks for being what I grew up with and their versatility. It wasn't until later years that I also learned of the great anti-bacterial and renewal properties of the bamboo. This made me doubly sad when my old bamboo chopsticks that I had owned and used for most of my life were destroyed. Thus began the hunt for a new set and hunt I did. I finally settled on these and I have not been disappointed. My old chopsticks were just long and plain (still wonderful). These are just as functional, but are also very attractive. Not too short, and not too thin (although the ends are thinner than my old set which were even from top to bottom). The ends are still thick enough to provide some grip and traction unlike others (especially those plastic chopsticks with the pointed tips). Some may prefer pointed tips, buy I do not. The color is very nice. They are not slippery varnished. They have a nice heft and feel in the hand. I am very pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very lightweight, but just as durable as most wooden chopsticks, January 7, 2012

I personally like these chopsticks a lot. The design is very simple and sophisticated.

These particular chopsticks are average width...more slender than cheap restaurant disposable chopsticks, but thicker than many other bamboo, wooden, and metal types that I have used before.
It is completely smooth and laminated. There are no ridges at the tips like there are on some wooden/metal chopsticks that help with gripping food.
These are definitely on the light side, so if you're used to heavier chopsticks like metal ones, or some wooden ones, these might be hard to control at first.

I would say these chopsticks are ideally for more experienced chopstick users (ie: people who have been using them almost everyday for years). They are NOT as slippery and difficult to use as metal ones though.

Also, stainless steel chopsticks are really the only kind you can put through the dishwasher. So if that's a quality you're looking for, you'll have to look elsewhere.

These chopsticks are solid, durable, and wonderfully simple to grip. The natural bamboo gives them a beautiful look and texture that goes with anything. They have held up in the dishwasher after many uses and show no signs of wear. They feel good in your hand and are very easy to use. I highly recommend these as a must have in any kitchen!

2.0 out of 5 stars Slippery Suckers, October 5, 2011

These are very elegant chopsticks, but using them has proved to be a pain in the butt. The coating they have used makes the chopsticks very slippery and it is difficult to pick up food. Now, I'm a self-professed non-expert when it comes to chopsticks, but even my boyfriend (who prefers chopsticks to silverware) has a hard time with them. I suggest you spend the few extra dollars to get ones without the coating.

Five pairs of stylish bamboo chopsticks at a reasonable price is wonderful. These are different than most chopsticks i've had in that they're not laquered, heavy OR heavily decorated. For my FarEast-leaning teenager these are cooool, he's our sushi master and keeps us globally conscious and happy bamboo is renewable :) We don't use these everyday and for all foods, so the other reviewers have more depth and breadth about these chopsticks.

Not much to say other than the chopsticks are very high quality. The color on them are natural and the feel is very solid albeit light. They are nice and long. The ends don't have anything to help grip food so you'll need a bit of practice if you're new to chopsticks. Very easy to clean and it came with 5 pairs!
