5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality and look - very pleased
I received this Totally Bamboo Dish Rack with the utensil holder as a gift.

It is beautiful, sturdy, folds quite flat for storage, and is of very nice dimensions to fit a good many dishes.
The Utensil holder is, for all purposes, able to sit on either end of the dishrack, so it can go any way you need it.

The foot profile is low, with one...

I loved this when it arrived. very nice design. to my dismay, when I unfolded it and set it up one of the slats came out, I pushed it back and hoped for the best. the main part is holding up but the utensil basket started falling apart after just two weeks. the slats fell off (they're glued not nailed) and the inside bottom started molding almost immediately (there are only two small holes on each side to allow water to drain). I threw that part away and am still using the full rack. it's very grand and nice compared to the other smaller ones you can buy but still...

The foot profile is low, with one side slightly higher. My previous rack (see below) was smaller and fit within my drainboard which was 15x14. However this rack has a larger footprint and because of the low foot profile does not straddle the small drainboard perfectly. None-the-less, it does straddle a small drainboard, with the drainer turned either way, with one way fitting better as a result of the feet on one side having been placed slightly higher by design. But as I say, its not perfect because the drainer is larger than the small drain board. So I think a large drainboard (18x15) may be better. I have not tried to fit a larger one yet.

Why not? Large drainboards are generally LxWxH 18 x 15 x 1.3 inches and so I have to make sure that the feet will fit within the drainboard and not sit awkwardly on the rim. I will try to update this when I do get the larger one.

The foot to foot space is LxW 18x9 inches.
The absolute LxWxH open is 19x18x10 without the utensil holder, add 2" for the holder when on, so 21x18x10.
The holder is separate and hangs on the side, in the uppermost V by brackets.

One consideration is that the water draining from the utensil holder drips straight below the holder. This depends where the holder is situated. I initially placed the drainer on the edge of a counter, making the holder sit right over the edge of the counter and inadvertently found the water draining into a drawer...

When it is empty and open, it is beautiful. The photos do not do the interleaved, two-tone coloring of the bamboo justice.

Moving Joints are attached with nuts and bolts (both counter sunk into the wood for a low profile)
Non moving attachments are well molded to make an attractive fit and appear to be laminated and/or glued.

I have not used this fot more than 6 months...so I will report back later on longevity.

As a note, for comparison...I PREVIOUSLY had a bamboo dish rack that I purchased from World Market for half the price. It lasted 2 years, however it start falling apart and needed constant reattaching of pieces within the first year. Everything that fell off was put on with tiny staple like nails and when the wood expanded and contracted from wetting and drying, the staples came out of their holes. Annoying.

I had a wooden dish rack from Crate & Barrel that finally fell apart. It was 14 years old! So, I searched for another dish rack...unfortunately, Crate & Barrel does not have the same long lasting dish rack they did 14 years ago. After purchasing several other wooden dish racks to only have to throw them away within 3 months of purchase because they either fell apart or experienced severe mold, I am finally happy with this one.

It seems to have sturdy construction and all of the corners are rounded so water cannot collect anywhere to cause mold. The dish rack is just right for our counter top...not too big and not too small.

We do not use the utensil rack, so I have no comment on it.

The dish rack is also nicely assembled and looks like it is going to be durable. I would buy again.

I had an old wooden dish rack for years. It was getting a bit worn and moldy. I opted to go with bamboo this time and so glad I did. Not only is this beautiful (nicely designed with two different wood tones), but wonderfully functional with the dual lower racks. I keep the back lower rack folded up until I need it.

This is a good rack: well-made, good-looking, and big and stable enough to take a lot of dishes, cutlery, etc. Not quite as receptive to a wide range of sizes and thickness of plates as racks I've had in the past, but far, far more durable. You can't go wrong.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice rack., December 19, 2010

Excellent rack plus nature friendly bamboo is a positive. It holds everything we throw at it. The rack has a low profile to it. We have ours under the upper cabinets and there is still plenty of room to put pots and pans.

Two issues:

1. I had to repair the rack as some of the seams had split. A little glue and a pressure clamp fixed it up.
2. The rack was missing some screws. Fortunately I had them around as well.

Lucky on both issues, but for the masses you might think for $30 plus the rack would be correct out of the box.

Overall, we like it a lot.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality, November 20, 2010

This review is from: Totally Bamboo Dish Rack (Kitchen)
I ordered a totally bamboo cutting board and was happy with the quality but I have to return the dish rack. On three different locations the joints were not hinged properly. The wooden peg was completely disconnected. It appeared that wood glue was used for the pegs that were holding together but there was no glue on these. Made in China.....
