Great cutting board for small jobs,

I bought this cutting board because Cook's Illustrated recommended the equivalent larger board (Totally Bamboo Congo) but I needed a replacement for my smaller board. The end-grain bamboo is great for the knives, the board looks great, and the size is perfect for smaller jobs: chopping a few veggies or slicing some cheese for example. I'm now going to buy the Congo to replace my larger end-grain maple board, which is too heavy for everyday use. These boards are thick enough to feel sturdy, but not so heavy as a 2 inch thick maple board.

This is an ideal cutting board. It's not too big, yet it's not too small, it's perfect for most every day jobs. Rinses well (of course you don't use soap on wood).

I just received this board today. I know the company is trying to be eco-friendly, which is great, but I really think a thin plastic wrapping around it would have been better than it just being shipped bare with a ribbon attached to it. If you look at the pictures submitted by another reviewer, you'll see the green ribbon around the board. Mine had that as well, but it was glued directly to the board, leaving two 1-inch sized squares of sticky glue on either side of my board, which I can't get off. :-( I don't know if that's a big enough excuse to send it back, though.

I've used the Zambia Parquet cutting board for awhile now and really like it. I think that it's worth getting the end-grain boards due to the additional hardness. I take VERY good care of the board and never let it sit in water. I also oil it when it begins to look somewhat dry. There've been no warping and cracking problems. If you want enough board area to cut several vegetables and to put them aside on the board while you cut another, you'll want to get a larger size. I like this size because it doesn't take up much room in my kitchen.

Have made sure to give mine a mineral oil bath every so often, but it is nice and flat (no warping) and hasn't cracked after several months of use. I will say it is better for fruits and vegetables than it is for larger items, and I haven't tried it at all for meat (I am of the school that thinks it's better to have a separate cutting board for raw meats). Looks nice and the price was fair. Recommended!

My son gave me this for my birthday having examined my wish list. I put it on my wish list after reading a review in Cook's Illustrated. It has not disappointed me: it is a beautiful, sophisticated gift without being too costly, it performs beautifully as a cheese board, is easy to clean, and looks very nice in the kitchen. Only time will tell how well it holds up, but Cook's Illustrated gave it high marks. At the moment I like its good looks on the table so much that I can't bring myself to subject it to fierce chopping tests!

I ordered this cutting board on oct 13, 2009 and received it oct 21, 2009 delivered to san diego california. The cutting board was packaged poorly with bubble wrap at the top only with the cutting board sitting at the bottom with no bubble wrap underneath. I was very lucky that I received my cutting board with no cracks because I have read other reviews for larger cutting boards arriving cracked because of the same poor packaging. The cutting board itself is very nice looking but a little on the small side. If you do not have much room in your kitchen or if you are only cooking for two then this board should be just right for you. I will most likely be ordering the congo or kalahari next just in case I need it. I took some pictures and added them to the customer images to show what a lime, onion, orange, and 8 inch shun chef knife looks like on it. I look forward to using my shun knives on this board.
