This Cd Rules!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Totally Crushed Out (Audio CD)
I will start by saying that this Cd has been religiously playing in my Cd player for at least tow years. I have not gotten bored of it yet, nor is there any sing of me getting bored of it. In a few words : They are the queens of all girl garage pop bands! They have all it takes: rhytm, Incredibly smart lyrics, talent , and that girl can play her violin with out making it look geeky. I live in a little town and getting by there CD is hard, unless I buy it for over 30 bucks I got lucky, and found this one in a pawn shop! The other ones I will soon be buying.

This band is incredible!!!,

This review is from: Totally Crushed Out (Audio CD)
This album shows the growth and maturity achieved by the band's members since their first(self-titled)album. Touring really paid off for the girls(and guy). Their rhythmic and writing skills have obviously been honed, as has their tonal and emotional vocabulary. The engineering on this album is much cleaner than their previous effort(a miracle, when recording at the same studio twice). Pay close attention to the harmonies by the Haden sisters, as well as the incredible bass playing skills of Rachel Haden. One might like to also give credit to multi-instrumentalist Tony Maxwell, whose drumming takes the listener through a journey into odd-feels and tight rhythmic bliss. As always, the terriffic songwriting skills of Anna Waronker display the hooks that the listener desires, as well as her own personal quirks. An excellent listen, well worth your time and money...

Best that dog album,
By HonestCritic "Kelly" (Lake Charles, Louisiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Totally Crushed Out (Audio CD)
This is the only great that dog. album. The self titled has some great material, but a lot of skippable tracks, and their third album "Retreat from the Sun" has some very good songs as well but is 100% pop and overly produced.
This album has it all: good songwriting, gritty grunge power chords, screaching violin solos, and beautiful three part harmonies. The aesthetic which is undeniably that dog. at its best. The only criticism I have is that the last song just doesn't do it for me at all. Whenever I listen to this album I play it the whole way through until the last song and then I turn it off.
