Think "old time" jazz, May 6, 2010
This review is from: Totally Jazz Piano (Audio CD)
...as in you're sitting in a saloon or speakeasy and you've got the latest genius piano swinger at the stool. Maybe you'll toss a coin into the beer mug on your way by. From Scott Joplin's 1902 "The Entertainer" aka "The Sting" to Fats Waller's "Viper's Drag" and Oscar Peterson covering Gershwin, there's a lot of good stuff here, some has singing some not. Art Tatum shows his genius as well. Quality is about what you could expect from this time period. "Remastered" just means transfered from analogue to CD. Sound quality is passable but could have been better in places - overall though the music comes through like some dream, some piece of history floating by from a century ago. It's a nice compilation - key players are Art Tatum, Fats Waller, Oscar Peterson, Errol Garner, Scott Joplin and George Shearing.
