Summer of 1992, I just finished 2nd grade and Im on vacation at the beach. The song 'Jump' has been getting extremely heavy radioplay and all the kids at school had been sweating this song like anything. Visiting the Navy Exchange's rap section, what do I find but Kris Kross's tape sitting there. When I bought this I only wanted to listen to 'Jump' over and over, but it turned out all the songs were as good as this. Songs like 'Warm It Up' and 'I Missed the Bus' are classics, especially 'I Missed the Bus'; what kid hasnt woken up late and missed the school bus at least once in their life? A very listenable, catchy album, with good production by Jermaine Dupri throughout. A definite mustbuy for older kids who listened to them and for younger kids who wanna find out what the 2 backwards dressing preteen rapstars were all about

Cute but Insubstantial Rap,

Kris Kross consisted of two teens from Atlanta: 14-year-old Chris "Mack Daddy" Kelly and 13-year-old Chris "Daddy Mack" Smith. They scored a huge hit when "Jump" spent 8 weeks at #1 on the Top 100 in 1992 and went double platinum. The song is incredibly catchy and holds up fairly well as a cute rap song. Two other singles were released, starting with "Warm It Up," which went to #13 on the Top 100 and was certified gold. It actually has probably aged better than "Jump" and sounds pretty good. The last single was "I Missed the Bus," which is rather juvenile and only went to #63.
The CD was written and produced by svengali of the moment, Jermaine Dupri, and his trademark sound is all over this music. As a result, most of the songs sound like what they are - talented kids working with a talented producer but without the slightest bit of organic authenticity. "Lil Boys in Da Hood" is a perfect example - an overly sweet "homage" to street life; it doesn't sound one bit realistic. "Party" is clever and has a nice groove, but again it's incongruent hearing two young teens talking seriously about partying. When Sony later advertised Kris Kross' third CD, this quote was included on their website - "Gone are the shrill, prepubescent cries of euphoria, Kris Kross now sound unmistakably world-weary and wise." There's a reason why few child rappers make it big - they haven't had the life experience. I also actually prefer listening to their two later CDs, and hearing how Kris Kross matured in their music. If you enjoy catchy 90s rap, then you'll love this CD. If you enjoyed "Jump," then you'll also love this CD. Nowadays, however, Kris Kross is mostly remembered as the little kids who wore their clothes backward; they're almost a novelty act, which says a lot about this CD.

It was good...when it mattered,

Nobody cares about Kris Kross anymore. I feel sorry for them. That's why I wrote this review. Let me say that I'm reverting back to the time when I first bought this tape (1992...and you know it was that long ago if I was buying a TAPE!) I was, what, 7 years old? Kris Kross was really raw back the. Everyone LOVED them and they were cute. Now, 7 years, 2 hit singles and one mediocre album later, they're disappeared into a land that many one-hit wonders are banished to...the land of obscurity. It was fun when it lasted.

First of all, Jump is too good of a track. I still haven't heard the rest of this CD because I just put jump on repeat and rap at the top of my lungs on my 45 minute commute. It ends up being about 10 times each way to work and if I'm at a long light, I look a little nuts for rapping to the song twice, but like I've always told people, if yelling a rap song by 12 year olds at the top of your lungs is wrong, I don't want to be in prison. The other problem I have with this thing is that if you try to be like Kriss Cross, you can't hold a job. If you are a true Kriss Krosser, you braid your hair and wear your clothes backwards. I got a job with a bank when I graduated from the U of Phoenix and I showed up on my first day with my suit on backwards. I started getting a bunch of customer complaints and they would call my Manager, Mr. Gingercrap, up to tell me they had a problem with my attire. Little did they know that I wired the intercom system to play Jump by the rap kings. I just pushed play and got on the drive thru teller mic and busted a groove in my reverse suit. I got fired. Well, after getting fired six other times from places like Burger King, Jiffy Lube, Ted pants shack, Jorks and Microsubs I decided to be a roller rink cop. I make kids leave the floor if they skate too fast. If they resist my orders, I have a tazer that I use without hesitation. I usually whisper for them to leave the rink so they say they can't hear me. Stop! Tazer time!! They don't care how I dress and pay me like 5 buks an hour. Yup, I'm at another level.

I can't remember which one was Daddy Mac and Mac Daddy, but everyone referred to the two boys who made up Kris Kross as Light Skin Kris and Dark Skin Kris. Kris Kross was hot when I was in middle school and anybody who was anybody wore their clothes backwards. But all of that changed when they starred in and episode of "A Different World." Light Skin Kris's eyebrows were shaved off and Dark Skin Kris had bald patches on his head. The next day at school, everyone talked about how that wasn't cool at all. If you asked anyone if they liked Kris Kross, they would say, "Forget Kris Kross!" Well, I've never forgotten Kris Kross and I listen to "Totally Krossed Out" frequently. Songs like "Jump," "Way of Rhyme," "I Missed the Bus," and "You Can't Get With This" are funky and fresh. "Warm It Up" and the Intro with Skeeter Rock are my ultimate favorites. "Totally Krossed Out" is a classic.

Ow, it's been eight years since that damned "Jump" song was blasted on the radio a zillion times. I'm glad that's over with.

I remember when Kris Kross came out in 1992, I was 14 years old (same age as they were) and a freshman in high school. They were definetely the hottest fad that year with rap music despite being kid rappers. Thanks to a hookup, I actually was able to meet them and take a picture with them once and they gave me free tickets to one of their concerts. I was definetly a huge fan to say the least. They started the whole backwards clothes wearing fad with their unique style of dress, had their mega hit "Jump" had everyone from black kids to white kids to grown-ups of all demographics jumping.
"Jump" is no doubt their signature song and it's still a classic. "Warm It Up" which was the second single released of this album is arguably the best song on it. Not quite as poppy but just as catchy as "Jump", lyriclly better and more of a traditional rap song. "I Missed The Bus" was a single that had a catchy beat for a while, but it got old. It wasen't their best song because it was kind of corny and kiddy. "Way of Rhyme" wasen't a hit but it is definetely one of the cooler songs on this album. It's basically a mini RAPsody because the beat and chorus at the end of the song is completely different from the beginning. Their deepest song on the Album "It's a Shame" was probably the most grown up song on the album that sends a message to young people to be mindful of the future. Overall a good album, although somewhat dated. But a few select songs will still hold up well today.

The Daddy Mack Will Make YOU Jump! Jump!,

HOLY S--T! This CD blows my mind, it's so cool. I remember when I first heard about these two kids that rapped about things I could relate to, like missing the bus. Shazbot, who hasn't missed a bus or two? Secondly, they do it with style and pluck! And Jump is the only song I have ever stopped whatever I was doing and gotten down to. I'm serious. I could be in the middle of a final exam, and I'd jump on the table and break it down with all sorts of moves. And then, I'd look to the back of the test-taking-room, and Kriss Kross would be there, like the dead jedi in Empire, and they'd say, "JUMP! JUMP!" And I would. Wherever the Dynamic Duo, or as they would put it in their totally krossed out style, Duo Dynamic, are begging for change, I wish them props!

I love this CD too death!!!! Every track on this CD is tight!!!Whenever I hear the track "Jump," it just hypes me up. This album makes me reminisce about my high school days. This CD was released since I nearly graduated from high school in 1992. This CD is my party album when I wanted to go to clubs. I woke up on this CD when I went to high school. I have it playing on my walkman and I just can't get this album out of my head. If you are a fan of Kriss Kross, you should purchase this CD into your collection. I wonder where those boys have disappeared at?? I love those boys!!!!
