Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I've been in and around the computer industry for over 25 years and I have never before seen the kind of reaction that Microsoft and their products provoke. People may love them or hate them but everybody knows them and very few have just neutral feelings about them. Poking a little fun at the rich and powerful is at the core of the American literary tradition of satire and parody so it just seemed to me like a good idea to have a collection of humorous material with Microsoft, its creator Bill Gates and some of its products and practices at the center.

From the Back Cover

The Totally Unauthorized Microsoft Joke Book

Q. What do Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, Janet Reno, Francis Ford Coppola, Tiger Woods, Andy Grove, Barney, Kathy Ireland, Stephen Hawking, Steve Jobs, Kenneth Starr, Michael Jordan, Jack Kevorkian and dozens of other famous people all have in common?

A. They all appear as characters in the "Totally Unauthorized Microsoft Joke Book".

Inside you'll find ---

Ten things not to tell Bill Gates at the morning staff meeting
The Windows GPF Song
Over 200 "Winteresting" definitions
Suggestions for a kinder, gentler Microsoft
10 Microsoft Products that didn't change the world

--- and lots of other jokes, lists, poems and puns, many of them appearing here for the very first time!! And there isn't a single "Lightbulb" joke among them!!!

Timely and irreverent, "The Totally Unauthorized Microsoft Joke Book" takes a good natured swipe at Microsoft, its products, its style, and, of course, Bill Gates. If you or a techie you know has a sense of humor, you'll enjoy this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Redundancy, May 23, 1999

Not a bad book, but not as great as I hoped. There were way too many jokes about Bill Gates dying (although it would be nice) and comparing Gates to god. Worth it for the nerds who have a sense of humor (mac users!). Also has a really nice index which makes it easy to find your favorite jokes by the name of the persons in the joke.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend to the techno-literate., June 10, 1999

Fun and funny book. My copy is already dog-eared from it's trek through our I.T. department. The tech support guys howled at the Top Ten lists. The Microsoft interview yarn on pgs 14-15 cracked me up. (Close to the truth, to those of you who haven't been through the drill.)

Would highly recommend to a specific readership, the techno-literate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth reading, June 2, 1999

There is an art to telling a really funny story, and the author of this book has definately made that art a science. The book offers a surprising variety of humor, including everthing from longer jokes with really clever punchlines to top ten lists and humorous haiku's. Overall, I found the book quite funny, and well worth the price. It would be a great gift for anyone who knows anything about computers - even those who work for Microsoft in Redmond, Washington.
