Unreal Price, November 27, 2001
This review is from: Totally Unreal (CD-ROM)
What can you say about this? It is totally unreal (pun intended). Included in this pack is the original Unreal, the Unreal Mission Pack, and the Unreal Tournament Game of the Year Edition plus a little advertisment disk for the upcoming Unreal tournament II (no playable demo, just some screenies). If you have been waiting for lower prices to get into this game (like I was) this is the pack for you.
Unreal has graphics that compare favorably with Quake II and later games and can hold it's own against Quake III in the graphics dept (though it does not look as lush). The Single player portion is fun with varied weapons and the UT multi player AI is quite good with enough skill levels to make it easy, too tough, or even (gasp!) just right. There will be a skill level for any one but the most god like fraggers. It comes with lots of maps and many different game modes, both for online play and against bots.
In short, I got it and I like it. At this price it's a bargin that you can't afford to miss.

Totally Great Value!, January 28, 2004
This review is from: Totally Unreal (CD-ROM)
Totally Unreal includes three of the best computer games I've ever played. Return to Na Pali, Unreal Tournament, and especially Unreal are fantastic shooters that I've yet to see bettered by anybody. And for the price, you simply can't go wrong.
When I started playing Unreal back in 1999, I quickly realized it was something very special. The music, sound effects, level design, and especially the technical sophistication of the graphics left me very pleased to say the least. This game takes you to another world like no other game can. The weapons, although awkward at first, pack a real punch that can bring down even the scariest of Unreal's monsters, and believe me these monsters can be frightening. Take a trip without the drugs, man!
Return to Na Pali is very similar to Unreal but includes a new weapon or two and new monsters in addition to the old ones. It also has some voice acting thrown in. You might criticize this expansion for being too much like the original Unreal, but that's fine with me because more Unreal is nothing to complain about!
Unreal Tournament varies significantly from the other two games in that it is a multi-player oriented game. That is, it features death match, team death match, domination, assault, and capture the flag which are meant to be played against other humans. Nevertheless, I played against the "bots" in single player and had a great time. Unreal Tournament is packed with features that allow you to customize the single player matches including the skill level and number of bots. It also has some "mutators" that really enhance your gaming experience and keeps the game fresh. Although different from the adventure style shooters I prefer, Unreal Tournament is a very fun game.
If there was anything I might quibble about in Unreal Tournament, it's the lack of a single-player adventure. However, even this problem has been resolved with a modification Called "Operation Na Pali." You can download this mod for free, and it's almost like a game in its own right. It uses the Unreal Tournament technology and allows you to go on a long adventure on the same planet as Unreal. You can use the Unreal Tournament weapons against the monsters from Unreal, and believe me, that's a great combination. It has new levels of course, but it takes you back to some of the levels in Unreal which have been modified. It's a truly great modification.
I can't say it enough: Get this software! You'll have three of the best shooters ever, and it all comes at a very reasonable price. Go on a trip without the drugs!

An excellent precursor to Unreal 2, January 30, 2002
This review is from: Totally Unreal (CD-ROM)
Totally Unreal is a totally unreal bargain. For twenty dollars you get Unreal and its mission pack plus Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition. There's also an extra CD containing a preview of Unreal 2 and Unreal Championship (which has been pushed back; Unreal Tournament 2 is currently under development and should ship later this year).
Even after four years and what seems like a dozen Quake engine-powered games later Unreal is still a great game to play. Superb visuals and immersive sound effects envelop you in a virtual world unlike any other. The game will run well on a Pentium II 450MHz system with a Direct3D-supported video card; Glide is also supported for 3dfx's hardware. Get this game and experience something truly unreal.
