Clearly drawn, concise descriptions of Haida totem poles, April 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Totem Poles (Paperback)
Published as a color & cut activity book, this title uses clear line drawings of three actual Haida totem poles. On the back are short descriptions of totems and the stories they tell; cutting the figures destroys no text. The book is approximately 10.5" x 17"; each pole is constructed from several pages of drawings. One of the few children's books telling what was used to make the paints for coloring the poles and other artwork. Does not discuss the "formlines" of Pacific Northwest Coast Indian art, although the artwork clearly shows them. Some unusual totems are shown -- Dragonfly and Bullhead, for example.
