The squalors in the spring/summer of NYC hit quickly, so I learned a long time ago to always carry an umbrella in my bag. Well after destroying $2 kmart specials over and over again, I decided to to get this one in it's place.

It comes with a nice canvas/spandex case and in it's case it measures just under 8.5"x3"x2". That's a bit larger than I had hoped/expected. But, it's a solidly made umbrella and doesn't saturate (then leak) nearly as easily as any other umbrella fabric umbrella that I've used.

Another reviewer states this umbrella won't keep your pants dry in anything other than a drizzle. Does anyone really expect any typical umbrella to keep their pants dry in a driving rain? Maybe a giant tubular umbrella about 5 feet high would work.

Although compact when closed, this Totes Auto Open/Auto Close Umbrella is as good as any other umbrella, except the most monstrous one you might be able to find. I have been using it for about 2 years and sometimes my trousers get a little damp, but I've never ruined a suit! Tilt the umbrella a little into the direction from which the rain is coming and it keeps you nice and dry. When you don't need it, it folds up into a very small package. Small enough to put in an inner pocket of a trench coat.

I lost my first which I had used for a year so I bought another. Best umbrella I've used. Very durable. High quality construction. Looks nice. The automatic collapsing feature lets you walk right indoors without fumbling in the rain to close it. Very convenient. It isn't very big but as big as you can get from a compact umbrella.
