5.0 out of 5 stars Toto Videos Finally on DVD
Just like the other guy, I've had the VHS Videos for Toto for 10 years. Finally I can enjoy a better picture, better sound, and not wear out the tape by owning this DVD, and look at the wonderful price? DVD, finally. If I had a major disappointment is the fact they didn't go all out and offer Dolby Digital 5.1, mind you, this is a huge improvement over the VHS version,...

This review is from: Past to Present [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Past to Present is a compilation of the music videos Toto made essentially during the 80's. I was hoping for extended concert video, but it is not to be. Some of the clips do a decent job showing the band play. But the video moves quickly from image to image.

Track list includes most of their major hits, but mostly follows video of tracks from their albums, not all which made their greatest hits album of the same name. And there are songs on the album not on the video.

Tracks are as follows: Rosanna; a medley: Hold the Line, Georgy Porgy, Ill Supply the Love, Goodby Elenore; Africa, Waiting for Your Love, Stranger In Town, Holyanna, Angel Don't Cry, Til the End, I'll Be Over You, Without Your Love, Pamela, Stop loving You, Out of Love, Can You Hear What I'm Saying (with Jean-Michel Byron, a great singer but who NEVER should have replaced Joe Williams! )

My personal regret with the video, which was one of the main reasons for my purchase, is that there is very little of Jeff stretching out on the drums. I really wanted to see good video of the master working at his craft. The segments that feature the musicians, and especially Jeff, are brief.

All said, the video is entertaining especially if you already enjoy Toto's music.

2.0 out of 5 stars no 5.1... then, no star, July 26, 2005

Totally disappointed by the lack of appropriate audio. It's no longer 1985... and we have technology available that allows listening to a much better quality than just plain vanilla stereo. Toto members should seek out those responsible for this weak mix, and fasten their heads to a guitar amp for a concert or two... sorry guys, I love U, but your producers blew it... and I have too many glass coasters already!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good collection. No update., August 18, 2004
This review is from: Toto - Past to Present 1977-1990 (DVD)
This is an excellent video collection, one I've had on VHS for years. However, would have enjoyed it more if the producers had taken the time to add some clips for other songs which were not included on the original release, as well as some of Toto's more recent videos.

Just like the other guy, I've had the VHS Videos for Toto for 10 years. Finally I can enjoy a better picture, better sound, and not wear out the tape by owning this DVD, and look at the wonderful price? DVD, finally. If I had a major disappointment is the fact they didn't go all out and offer Dolby Digital 5.1, mind you, this is a huge improvement over the VHS version, but where is my Digital Sound? Be that as it may, Toto is the group people don't know much about but they certainly know their songs. Did you know Joseph Williams (Son of the infamous John Williams, music writer for movies such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws, Superman and conductor for the Boston Pops Orchestra) His son, Joseph was the lead singer for Toto about two years (He got kicked out of the band, kind of a falling out I heard). Anyway, when he left Toto, he got a job offer at Disney and has been singing with them ever since. He's done things for Aladdin and many other greats. Look for him on the videos, he's got a great voice. He sang Pamela, I Can't Stop Loving You" and sings backup in "I'll Be Over You" which happens to be one of the ultimate breakup songs ever and you can't forget the infamous Africa and Rosanna and so many other wonderful titles. One song, "I Can't Stop Loving You" was really never a hit on the charts, but truly should have been, it's still my favorite Toto song and the hot chickies on the video may be part of that reason! Wow. It's missing "I Won't Hold You Back" and "Home of the Brave" one of my all time favorites, but all the rest of their hits are all intact. I would have liked to have seen some added bonuses for the DVD like some new interviews or even some newer songs from the 90's era, but classic Toto vintage preserved on DVD and for the price, "especially at Amazon" you really can't lose with this DVD. Toto fans, what are you waiting for? Get the ultimate collection of great music entertainment.

I own this DVD on VHS. Just placed my order. The videos show the pure core of Toto. Where they came from, what they went through with the passin of Jeff, and how the videos have changed over time. If you look close at Till The End you see a judge from a show on Fox. (Paula) There is another great person on this DVD. The great Michael McDonald. If you are a true fan of TOTO you must own this and the Live In Amsterdam. The only thing that I would like to see is more of the videos that are never shown. 99 I have been told like 1984. Big brother watching you, boy falls in love with girl and then the rest of the story plays out.

5.0 out of 5 stars FOR THE MUSIC LOVERS A MUST TO HAVE, January 11, 2005
This review is from: Toto - Past to Present 1977-1990 (DVD)
Only Journey Greatest Hits can be better than this DVD. This is a must to have for any true music lover. My rate is 8 stars. These guys are from the time musicians needed to be musicians. Lukather you are an amazing guitar player and singer. Rosanna was really a masterpiece. Long life to all of you.

4.0 out of 5 stars almost perfect, July 23, 2004
This review is from: Toto - Past to Present 1977-1990 (DVD)
This dvd is excellent. the only complaint that I personally have is that song "Hold the Line" the video song is incomplete, appears under Medley in the back of the DVD box but is just a short part of the video as well as the rest of the songs under Medley. I dont understand why the producers of this DVD did not put the complete video of each song.
the rest of the videos are complete and have excellent audio as well. how I wish to have a Toto DVD complete.
I recomend plentiful the 25th anniversary DVD is excellent!!!

The quality was only 'ok'. The original recordings have a better spatial field. Don't buy this DVD if you love Toto's music and have never seen them in concert or in a video! You will be disappointed with the guys and the quality of the videos!

After having said all that, I LOVE Toto and highly recommend their music. Very talented group --- in the studio! ;)

3.0 out of 5 stars Not all here... For personal reasons., August 10, 2011
This review is from: Toto - Past to Present 1977-1990 (DVD)
According to another reviewer's list of titles for this DVD there is no "99" Interestingly enough, the CD that the title and artwork for this DVD came from does have "99" listed. I heard that this may be due to Steve Lukather's hatred of the song. Oh well, Bummer for us music lover's!
