Get in "Touch.",
By The Groove (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews

Look no further: the party jam of 2005 is here. Amerie's Top Ten single "1 Thing" has it all: a killer guitar hook, an infectious drum beat, and a groove so tight, you could bounce a quarter off it and still get change. Produced by Rich Harrison (who also produced the bulk of this album), "1 Thing" is the dance pop confection that Jennifer Lopez's "Get Right" (also produced by Harrison) should have been but wasn't. The rest of "Touch," Amerie's first album since her 2002 debut, doesn't approach the greatness of that single, but a few other r&b-flavored cuts come close. She gets her crunk on with a little help from Lil' Jon, who produces the Middle-Eastern-laced title track, while "Come With Me" and "Talkin' About" pass the time nicely. "Touch" doesn't break any new ground, but then again, it doesn't need to. It's just a good record with a bit of substance behind the groove.

Great Album!,

Okay first BOO!!! to the record company for tainting my disc with stupid soft-ware to prevent people from copying it on the computer. If you can get this album without the soft-ware (which made it on most "what were they thinking?" soft-ware lists) then please do.
This album is fun, sexy, energetic, and classy. "1 Thing" is the best go-go R&B track released since Beyonce's "Crazy in Love". Amerie's voice fit the song becoming an instrument to complement Rich Harrison's rich production. My favorite songs are "Can We Go" and "Tears Rolling Down My Face". What makes these songs work is that Amerie knows her limitations and doesn't try to go where she has no business going. The production complements her voice, so you don't get a sense of Amerie singing songs that really are out of her range. I'm not saying she can't sing. She has a real lovely voice (Listen to "Tears Rolling..." and past tracks like "Talkin' to Me" to hear for yourself) but she does what really works for her like "1 Thing". I gave the album 5 stars because it's consistent and really sounds better through repeated listens. The production is also more varied and jazzy than her debut album (which is really good too). Best Tracks: "Can We Go" (That Earth, Wind, and Fire sample!) "Tears Rolling Down My Face" (The horns!) "1 Thing" that got me trippin' (Love the chorus!) "Like it Used to Be" (Listen to the instrumentation during the chorus)

Amerie is back and better than ever. On this album, Touch, she decides to expand her producer list, but the majority is still produced by Rich Harisson, the best producer on the scene now. Harisson's beats are so infectious and catchy, especially on this CD. Songs like "1 Thing" and "Talkin' About" really showcase his talent and oushine tracks from her last album by far. Amerie's voice is not the best, but she really works with what she has and gives it her all, especially on "1 Thing."
There are one or two tracks this album could've done without, but otherwise this is one of the best CDs released this year.

This is a great album. The production is excellent and every track is at least good. This is definitely one of those ones that you can listen to start to finish. Amerie is not the best vocalist, but she works with what she has. The album overall is very upbeat, go-go type of stuff. It is fun and enjoyable. The songs are very catchy, too. I would definitely recommend adding this album to your collection.

AMERIE IS A UNIQUE SINGER, WHICH SHE SHOWS ON THIS CD. HER STYLE OF MUSIC IN THIS CD IS VERY OLD SCHOOL 80'S FLAVA STYLE TO IT. ALL THE TRACKS ARE LIKEABLE AND OK TO LISTEN TO.
MY FAVORITE TRACKS : ONE THING - AWESOME SONG. THIS WAS A GOOD SINGLE FOR HER. NOT THE ONLY ONE - ANOTHER FAVORITE SONG OF MINE. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SINGLE. COME WITH ME - ALSO SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SINGLE. HAS AWESOME BEATS. TALKIN ABOUT - KINDA SOUNDS LIKE ONE THING. JUST LIKE ME- A BEAUTIFUL BALLAD. THIS IS MY FAVORITE TRACK ON THIS ALBUM. HER VOICE SOUNDS SOOTHING. THIS SONG SHOULD ALSO HAVE BEEN A SINGLE. THE OTHER SONGS ON THIS ALBUM R OK, BUT THESE WERE THE SONGS THAT STAND OUT MORE THAN THE OTHERS.I HOPE ON HER NEXT ALBUM SHE HAS MORE DANCEABLE SONGS LIKE ON HER SINGLE ONE THING.

Sadly, not that great...,

I was really hoping this album would be better, for the club ready track `1 Thing' was so incredibly tight, but sadly the rest of the album fails to match the intensity of that single, and even `1 Thing' begins to lose a lot of its grander after a few listens. As one reviewer stated, `Touch' is likable, yet unmemorable.
The problem I have with most of the tracks here is that Amerie falls into that niche of overly repetitive chorus lines and bridges, as if the beat was so tight they didn't want to end the song but she ran out of anything good to say so she decided to just repeat the name of the song over and over and over again against the backdrop of a tightly woven club beat. A very bad decision on her part. `1 Thing', the original and the remix featuring Eve are by a long shot the best tracks here, and while the title track `Touch' is nothing brilliant, the beat is out-freaking-rageous and makes it the second best track here. `Talkin' About', `Falling' and `Rolling Down my Face' hit a new low in the repetitiveness and serve as the utter worst tracks here (which is sad because I really love the beat on `Rolling Down my Face'), while `Not the Only One' is actually a good track as is `Come with Me' despite being a little too Beyonce feeling to me. Don't even get me started on the `Why Don't We Fall in Love' remix which is just plain awful! So, in closing I want to say that while Amerie is a beautiful woman and she does posses a beautiful voice she falls short of her potential on this album and overshadows her good with a lot of the bad.

She Made Me A Fan,
By

I won't lie, I wasn't an Amerie fan. It wasn't until a trip to DC brought my attention to the song "One Thing." Then I saw the video and found out fine she was I became a believer. While I wasn't feeling all of the songs on th cd, she held my interest on the bulk of them. On every cd, ther is at least one favorite and for me it's a toss up between "Talking About" because of the beat and "Just Like Me" because of the words. Talented? Yes. Pretty as can be? Definitely. Is this CD worth buying? Handle your business and get it.

The CD is okay. I don't think it was a waste of money. There are a few good songs on it, although I wouldn't say every song is. What bothers me is that I purchased the cd, and can't dowload it to my ipod because it is protected. I paid money for the cd, I own it, I should be able to do with it what I want.

Why isn't she a bigger star?,

She's got everything Beyonce has: gorgeous looks, great voice, impressive dance moves. The go-go-tastic 1 Thing does sound similar to Crazy In Love, but has it's own individual flair. Other highlights are the sensual Arabic flavored title track (and I usually hate Crunk&B!), whimsical Falling, All I Need, Rolling Down My Face (check out the Roy Ayers sample!), Just Like Me, and Can We Go, a duet with Carl Thomas.
There are a couple of missteps. The pointless 1 Thing remix is the same exact song with an added rap by Eve. Why not change the music or something? Also, I can't stand the remix of Why Don't We Fall In Love. The original is sweet and summery, but the newer version doesn't do it for me. Why is a song from her first album included here anyway? Bottom line, Amerie is sorely underrated. Her time has been long overdue and I'll be the first to cheer her on when it comes.

A Kid's Review

You either love her or you hate her! I personally enjoy her music. I think this second album is much better compared to her first album. Her vocals are decent and the sound is really crisp. She has some great love ballads and the album is 100% great to drive to. Not anyone can stand Amerie, so be warned, her voice can get kinda annoying at times.
