5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, tasteful interactive book!, March 11, 2010

Although I love Beatrix Potter's books, I am always a little leery about buying any of the relatively recent versions that make use of the illustrations but rely on an original story line or theme for marketing purposes. However, this book is a beautiful exception to the sometimes mediocre mainstream! I bought two for Easter basket presents and then had to go back and send for a third for my home library. It's an excellent size--8 1/2" square--bigger than some tiny board books. The board book format is so great for little hands. The illustrations are taken from a number of the Potter books, including Benjamin Bunny, Tom Kitten, the Flopsy Bunnies, Jemima Puddleduck, Mrs. Tittlemouse, and the Two Bad Mice. The pictures are active in nature, depicting characters running, jumping, watching insects, dancing, eating lettuces, etc. Each large number is enhanced with a tactile material, including velveteen, burlap, corrugated paper, satin, and raised dots. It goes from 1 to 10, as do most counting books. It's truly lovely and a great introduction to the individual stories. I am so happy with this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Tactile Book, December 16, 2011

Bought this for my son when he was 8 months old or so and he still really loves it at 16 months. He loves to put his hands on the tactile parts and sits through this short counting book. For me, the illustrations are whimsical and keep my attention too.
