3.0 out of 5 stars Cheaply made
Although these are sturdy and my 10 month old son loves to "read" them and flip the pages himself - I feel these are cheaply made and repetitive. In the same series there are baby chick and baby ducklings and both of them have the soft yellow fur in the window. I feel like the creators ran out of imagination at some point and started to repeat themselves. The pages...

I purchased these books for my 1-year-old as a Christmas gift. He loves looking at books, especially animals, and we already had a Touch and Feel Puppy book (which he loves). These books are very educational and allow baby to explore lots of different textures while learning about different animals. The set includes 3 books, which each introduce baby to different kinds of animals and textures.
Wild Animals includes a lion (hairy), lizard (rough), dolphin (smooth), tree frog (sticky), and koala (furry).
Baby Animals includes rabbit (soft), elephant (rough), duckling (fluffy), calf (smooth), and gorilla (furry).
Farm includes chicks (fluffy), horse (velvety), dog (furry), lamb (wooly), and pig (spongy).
My son loves flipping through the books to touch each different animal and , of course, make the animal noises! If you want to add a little excitement to reading time, I would highly recommend these books!

5.0 out of 5 stars My three month old LOVES these!, February 3, 2005

It's so important to read to your baby every day, so they'll develop a lifelong love of reading and keep amazon in business! (Just kidding on that last part.) My baby loves to reach out and touch all the textures in these books. They are very well designed - the textured portions are all on the right hand side, so when you have your baby on your lap and hold the book with your left hand, his right hand is free to touch the pages. High quality and a great deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter LOVES these books!, July 8, 2003
This review is from: Touch and Feel Animals Box Set (Board book)
My 10 month old loves the "Touch and Feel" books! We read some every night before bed and often during the day. She will even turn the pages and babble/read by herself! She loves the different textures (although she isn't a fan of the sticky paint or frogs feet) and pictures. I would recommend any of the "Touch and Feel" books.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Baby Gift!, January 12, 2005
This review is from: Touch and Feel Animals Box Set (Board book)
I just love ALL the books in this series. My children just loved them when they were little, and if you've ever had babies you know how valuable a good book is -- you get to sit down for a while! They were fun for me to read and really fun for them to explore. In fact, I've already packed them away in their hope chests for when they grow up and have children.
Now, whenver I know anyone who has had a baby, these books (as many as I can find) are my gift.

The pages contain pictures of animals on white background plus a couple of words of text. These are very simple and I feel my son will outgrow them quickly.

In comparison, I like the magic windows series. I feel they are much more imaginative and clever. If I had known up front - I would not have ordered these.

My daughter loves this set! There is one page in each book that she does not like because it doesn't have as noticable a texture, but she absolutely adores all of the other pages. She is quite happy to feel and re-feel each page numerous times at each sitting. We got these for her when she was 6 months old and needed help to feel them and now, at nearly 12 months, she eagerly looks through them on her own! I highly reccomend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy construction and excellent variety of textures, July 12, 2006
This review is from: Touch and Feel Animals Box Set (Board book)
The other review by Lorrie M. accurately describes the different textures featured in each of the three books in the set. My son loves feeling each texture.
One thing I hate about pop-up or open-the-flap books is that toddlers grab the pieces and tear them. BUT these three books don't have that problem, because all the textures are sandwiched between the well-glued sides of each page, and with the exception of the pig's spongy nose in Touch and Feel Farm, the shape that appears around each texture is round enough to prevent toddlers from grabbing protruding pieces of carboard and lifting.

This is a great box set for a baby's first gift of books. The photos are so charming and the tactile experience that even a nine-month-old can enjoy make these books an absolute must-have for every baby's book shelf!
