2.0 out of 5 stars Too bad! Gotta have subtitles or closed caption
Please don't misunderstand - this is not a review.

I would buy this series right away IF it had either closed captions or subtitles. And I am sure that there are many more like me who must have the "writing" to make up for poor hearing.

Pity that so many of the top-notch shows from the UK have no writing.

a relationship with Shirley Fisher because he can't commit himself.
In the process he considers selling the house he shared with his
now dead wife.I find these series to be among the best of British
mysteries and have preordered Series 4,due in November.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thinking Man's police drama, September 7, 2004
This review is from: A Touch of Frost - Season 3 (DVD)
David Jason is still fairly unknown here in the USA, and in fact is more popular in England for comic performances than his sober portrayal here as the redoubtable Frost. This is a far cry from most US police drama's and Jason plods through each episode with didactic deliberation, cleverly piecing clues together, and bringing criminals to justice. There is an unspoken charm to his character who is both likeable and frustrating, carrying scraps of paper as aide memoirs constantly as he solves each case. Something of an anachronism, he is an old fashiioed policeman, with what he sees as outdated morals, and practices - but his quirky style is moreoften than not, more than a match for his lawbreaking quarry. There's no eye popping action, explosions, guns or even over the top story's here, so adrenaline junkies please steer clear. Almost a latter day Sherlock Holmes, Frost is an intelligent, yet down to Earth, blue collar detective, resolved to getting the job done. This collection finds four middle of the road episodes that represent the series well, some may find that the structure of each one precludes repeated viewing, but you almost come to love the character, and this is a well rounded set for newcomers, and fans alike. Very well done. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars As excellent as ever, January 8, 2005

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: A Touch of Frost - Season 3 (DVD)
David Jason is one of the finest actors that the UK has produced - and this, the third of the Frost DVDs - finds him as engaging as ever.

Infusing his detective work with pathos and humour, Jason portrays a "grey" detective in an overly "grey" British town. Not the recipe for outstanding television, but Jason's excellence is matched by the scriptwriter - and the viewer is genuinely transported into the life of a British police inspector in a new town, with all of its troubles and problems.

Jason not only proves to be a superb police man, his humour - and distaste for new policing methods - ensure that the viewer is able to relax, focus, switch on and off, all at the same time as the main character. I really can't recommend this DVD - or any of the other three issued to date - highly enough.

Long live David Jason. With Del Boy in "Only Fools and Horses" and Frost in this series, he has portrayed two of Britain's greatest TV heroes: the range of the man's acting is simply breathtaking.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Mystery Series, July 17, 2008
This review is from: A Touch of Frost - Season 3 (DVD)
My wife bought me Frost Series 1 for Christmas. We enjoyed it immensely.
So we recently bought Series 2 & 3.
This series just gets better with age. Jack Frost is endearing. He has parts of Morse and Foyle in him.
This mystery is up to Series 14. We plan to get all of them.

Season 3 has four excellent episodes and they are all great. The entire 3 discs run about 6 hrs 45 min. David Jason has his usual wry humour and endearing personality. I have almost the entire Frost collection and all except the last season, loved everyone. Season 15 is just too sad! Patiently waiting for the Inspector Wexford series to be released, so many fans of this wonderful British detective series must be hoping for more to be available here.

If you are fan of "Midsomer Murders" this will be a show you will also enjoy. There are interesting characters and stories. It's great that there are so many seasons to watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Drama at its best, October 23, 2005
This review is from: A Touch of Frost - Season 3 (DVD)
David Janson, David Janson and David Janson are the three best reasons for watching A Touch of Frost. The drama, acting, and characters are some of the best in this genre. The theme music sets the tone for the drama that will unfold and it is real life displayed in all its ugliness and David Janson finds himself a all to human in dealing with some of the horrors of the street. Must see watching for anyone that loves mystery and police dramas.
