An unpolished Morse,

Frost is an English policeman in a mid sized city who is an unpolished Morse. He is not neat, dislikes authority (comic
elements in both),but is clever, brave, lucky, and empthetic with victims. For nearly every episode he has a new police partner and girl friend (the woman sidekick in House Calls is particularly interesting). The acting, photography, music, and character development of the principals is excellent as usual. Set 5 has the "usual" 4 episodes (Set 4 is exceptional-5 episodes and an interview). All story lines are "grabbers"-I watched the whole set over 1 weekend.I did find 2 of the 3 disks unviewable in my oldest DVD player, but they were fine in my newest one.Frost's character continues to develop-in this set,we see him under investigation and writing a letter of resignation. Does he resign? I think not-there are still 5 more sets to come.

Excellent Acting and in line with the previous series,

If you've enjoyed the previous series then you will certainly enjoy this one. David Jayson's acting is very strong as of course are the other actors. The plot and story lines are all very well written out and the suspense build up is well embedded in each episode, especially 'penny for the guy'.

David Janson gives his normal high proformances in this series of "A Touch of Frost". A very tough, sad last episode will put you into a quandary as to what is coming next season. Do not bypass any of the chapters leading up the this grand finally. Obviously there is more to come.

I've enjoyed all the Touch of Frost stories - what a warrior David Jason is to be still acting in this series at his age! Good for him. He might look more 'mature' than he did at the start of the series, but I think that's the only difference. Good on him!
Thanks. Gwen

I thoroughly enjoyed all the Frost DVD's. Episodes are all well written and there is a nice balance of wit and humour in each episode. Thankfully there is not alot of CSI type mumbo jumbo and the villian is usually a nice little surprise. My only quibble is that it is not clear that each investigation is a team exercise so at times Frosts faithful sgt suddenly announces a leap forward in the plot because of some other officers queries. As I say a minor quibble, there is after all only so much time in an episode. Highly recommended.

If you like British made police shows you will like this series but if you like all the guns and car chases of the American kind, then you probably will not.

There is something about the English TV Mysteries that always pleases- be it the acting, the cinematography or the scripts- they are never predicable

Execelent when the DVD works!,
This review is from: A Touch of Frost - Season 5 (DVD)
A Touch of Frost is one of my favorite "Who Done It" Sleuths. I have purchased over 50 complete seasons of this and other series. The problem - at least a third of the discs freeze up and won't complete. Imagine the
frustration of getting into a mystery and not being able to see the ending! I have rechecked the discs on other players and on several computers. It definably is the discs. And amazon.com will only refund 50% since the package was opened. |
