A Keeper for All Romantica Lovers, December 9, 2005
This review is from: Touch of Gypsy Fire (Paperback)
Wow! I love this cover. Whoever the guy is, (real or not), he's gorgeous!
According to Shiloh Walker, out of all the books she's written, this fantasy romance is her absolute favorite. I can see why. It has all the magick, adventure, good vs. evil theme, captivating characters, delightful humor, romance, and W I L D H O T sex. Unlike some authors in the genre, you can generally count on Walker to deliver and get your libido going!
I think it's rather refreshing to see a heroine getting some action apart from the hero. Erotic romance usually contain heroes that get all the fun, while the heroines are left moping and sexually frustrated. Though sexual frustration occurs between Tyriel and Aryn (during most of the novel), they do satisfy "it" somewhere else! The encounters are delicious and very steamy. (However, I still think Aryn got more action than Tyriel--not fair!).
Tyriel is a very strong, independent woman and is well-matched against the sensually seductive blond Adonis, Aryn. When they first meet, there's a very subtle, earthy attraction. It's not until they pair up and journey together to fight evil--in this case, a dangerous and powerful mage--that their attraction truly develops. Though Tyriel and Aryn are hot for one another, they stubbornly fight their attraction, because they agree that it might complicate their working relationship. Yet, Irian, the Scottish warrior--who is the spirit entrapped in Aryn's sword--gets in on the action and helps these two mules come together.
Yes. There's great sexual tension, but I think it becomes too prolonged! Walker plants Tyriel and Aryn together for 5 long years, and not once do they hook up. Somehow that seems unrealistic to me. How can two people, who are powerfully attracted to one another, resist temptation for that long? When Tyriel and Aryn finally hook up, the story is almost over! That really bothered me. (Reason for my 4 star rating).
However, Tyriel and Aryn stayed with me long after I finished reading their story--a testament to Walker's great characterization! Indeed, she is a masterful writer and fantastic storyteller. She is one of my favorite authors in the genre. I highly recommend most of her novels. Some of my personal favorites: VOYEUR, HER WILDEST DREAM, HER BEST FRIEND'S LOVER, and ONCE UPON A MIDNIGHT BLUE. All of them are sizzling reads, but with sensitive love stories to boot!

Disappointing, January 1, 2008
This review is from: Touch of Gypsy Fire (Paperback)
When I purchased this book I was looking forward to another engaging story with sizzle from Ms. Walker. Unfortunately, it didn't deliver. The characters are likable and engaging, but the stroy simply doesn't deliver.
Because the timeline makes a rather clumsy "jump" from one event to travel back and tell the bulk of the story, then back to the "present" for the finale, I had to take the time to figure out when the passages I was reading took place. Very distracting. In addition, I don't feel the reader is given enough information to understand the fantasy world that has been built for the story. This book also lacked the sensuality I have come to expect from Ellora's Cave.
I've read enough of Ms. Walker's work to know she can write great stories with incredible hot scenes, but had this been my first Walker book, I would never consider buying another.

Touch of Gypsy Fire, April 23, 2005
This review is from: Touch of Gypsy Fire (Paperback)
I enjoyed this book very much, it had adventure and hot love scenes. I thought that Tyriel, had strength of character that I enjoy in a heroine. Aryn had strength, but he was a little dense when knowing if a female likes him or not. duh. I had a few tears reading what Tyriel went through before she was rescued. I enjoyed this book, so I will definitely by the rest her series.
