English album of international standard,
This review is from: Touch of Love (Audio CD)
After singing for 15 years in both cantonese and mandarin, Chinese pop superstar has now given us his first English album. It doesn't disappoint because it reaches a very high international standard. Not only does Jacky sounds surprisingly idiomatic when singing in English, the album contains a great variety of musical styles which make it extremely interesting and satisfying. Jacky's performances here are of a uniformly high standard, too. This album is very enjoyable indeed!

One of the world's greatest singers,

Finally, Jacky Cheung's lyrical voice can be heard in English. This amazing artist has been singing in both Mandarin and Cantonese for many years. "Touch of Love" is his first English language album. The lyrics of the songs are often amusing, and sometimes, I fear, unintentionally so, but they consistantly have catchy melodies which Jacky manipulates beautifully. The only rough spot on the album is the duet with Reba McIntyre. Ms McIntyre's style and timbre are very different from Jacky's mellifluous tones, and the match is not an easy one, althought it does sound like they had fun with it.Lines such as, "and then she hit me" or "it's hard to get a date when you're homely" add to the entertainment value of this cd. It will serve as a nice start to the exploration of his work. Jacky Cheung won a singing contest in Hong Kong when he was 19. His career has not, however, been limited to recordings and concerts. He has appeared in numerous films that have ranged from the comic "High Risk" with Jet Li where he plays a character loosely based on Jackie Chan, to the tragic drama "A Bullet in the Head" directed by John Woo. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with the work of this remarkable man.

One of the Best Singers in Asia,

Jacky Cheung sounds good live and on CD. I applaud his first English album. It is definitely a work of a master. His voice transcends different octaves smoothly and with feeling. I do not believe there are many singers who can do what he does. I definitely recommend all his albums, including this one to everyone.

A stepping stone to a possible international singing career!,

"Touch of Love" his debut English album. One word: Excellent. I hope he will release another one very soon. All tracks, especially "Corazon de Melao" and "Touch of Love" is just great! He's been a great singer in both Cantonese and Mandarin, now English. Will this been a sign for a possible international career? Maybe follow CoCo Lee's footsteps? He sung for over 15 years (back to 1985) and I started listening to his songs since I was nine. I became his fan in 1993. He won numerous awards in Hong Kong and a few in the world (the most famous being the World Music Awards, in 1995 and 1996). Apart from music, he's an actor, having won Best Supporting Actor twice (Hong Kong - 1988 for "As Tears Go By", and Taiwan - 1990 for "Swordsman"). His most recent film - Ann Hui's "July Rhapsody". He has been nominated for Best Actor, but lost. Stephen Chow from "Shaolin Soccer" (aka. Kung Fu Soccer) won it. A great role model, and I hope he shines for another 15 years! |
