Thea and Pierson were both wounded, intriguing, complex, wonderful characters. The action/suspense was fast-paced and thrilling. The sex was HOT and perfect for the story. Thea and Pierson were both wounded, intriguing, complex, wonderful characters. The action/suspense was fast-paced and thrilling. The sex was HOT and perfect for the story. Not only it offers sufficient romance to the end of the book, the characterization, humour, suspense are perfectly blended in a page turner. It is sometimes shock, sometimes hilarious and sometimes sexy. Absolutely highly recommended and one of the best in the genre. I absolutely loved this book. The author has a great gift in her ability to develop characters. Lucy Monroe writing instantly puts you into the scene. She has a good feel for the period, strong, engaging characters. This was just the kind of romance novel I love. Wonderful characters. Characters that seems real because they are not perfect-something most novels like this lack. The relationship between the leads is endearing. I found the characters to be multi-dimensional and the author weaves a mystery into the story without slowing it down or interrupting the romantic flow. The love scenes are ample & steamy, and the plot is a good one. A fast paced book with an intricate plot that I cannot help but enjoy. The interaction between the leads was great. I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series.

Thea is my kinda girl - outspoken, unafraid to speak her piece, even if it's not the most popular opinion, and willing to take care of herself. She doesn't need a man to protect her. Her relatives have already taught her all she needs to know, maybe even more than they realized. But she eventually finds out that a girl sometimes needs a man, for reasons other than protection. And she finds out that even tough girls like her, need a little tender care.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Read!!!, September 20, 2005
This review is from: Touch Me (Paperback)
Ms. Monroe has created a very good read with the first in a series titled "Touch Me." Exotic locations, unusual characters, and great chemistry combined into a read that will entertain.

Thea is not your typical woman. She thinks for herself, does for herself, and can't be bothered with what others think of her. A trust issue tore her family apart and now she finds that she must go back to England to investigate a possible theft from her shipping company. Her chance to sail for England come at the hands of handsome Pierson Drake. From the get go these two spark energy off of each other. It's only a matter of time before the spark kindles a flame. Now neither of them can deny the attraction, but each has a well protected heart and is shy about laying that heart open. Will these two wounded people find the love that they each doesn't think exist with each other?

This was a good book. Thea is a modern day woman in many of her thought processs' but Ms. Monroe still manages to keep to the time period despite this. The fact that both Thea and Pierson have issues does prevent this story from reaching a natural conclusion any earlier than it already does. This despite being a tad frustrated a few times this read did manage to entertain. I look forward to the next in the series which is titled "Tempt Me."

This book was actually much better than I expected. It was somewhat tamer than some of Monroe's books but the characters were wonderful. I loved the fact that the entire story was about the growing relationship between the 2 main characters, Thea and Drake. It was nice, once in a while, to not have a serious secondary story going on that takes you away from the main story. I really came to care about these people and felt their personalities were perfectly developed. A great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Romance, September 27, 2005

Lucy Monroe takes the reader back to 1797 England in the beautiful story called Touch Me.

Thea Selwyn was raised in the exotic West Indies. Her mother had fled England with her when Thea was a small child. She has enjoyed vast freedoms there that her counterparts in England did not. Thea's openness, love of life and beauty cause a stir in Pierson Drake.

Pierson offers Thea and her maid passage back to England on his ship. There Thea is determined to get to the bottom of who is stealing from her uncles and her shipping company. When someone tries to harm Thea, Drake refuses to leave her side and aids in her quest. During the voyage and in England Thea and Drake succumb to the all-consuming passion they share.

Thea learned on her mother's knee how men and marriage are not for her. Drake has his work cut out for him to convince Thea to take a chance and risk her heart.

Touch Me is an exceptional novel. The emotions are deep and compelling, its sexy and wonderfully romantic. It's a gem. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Wonderful, September 8, 2005
This review is from: Touch Me (Paperback)
I adored this book. As far as I am aware, this is Ms. Monroe's first foray into historical novels and she succeeds magnificently. The relationship between Drake and Thea sizzles and there are no misunderstandings that tear the two apart for long periods. Any misunderstandings are dealt with within a few pages and that is very refreshing to this reviewer. Ms. Monroe can write any genre she wishes and I'll read it immediately and with relish. 3.0 out of 5 stars Touch Me, September 12, 2005

False accusations of infidelity tore a family apart three years ago. When Anna Selwyn gives birth to twins, her husband angrily takes the boy away from her, but does not realize a daughter was also born. To save the girl from growing up under his heavy rule, Anna sends little Thea away. She grows up to be a strong and independent woman who longs to know more about her English family. When the chance to go back to England arises in the form of Pierson Drake, she takes it. The sea captain can only repair his ship if Thea will allow it, and she will only allow it if he takes her to England from her home in the West Indies. Grudging agreement blossoms into passion on the high seas, but Thea refuses to marry him, even to save her reputation. Drake will have to overcome her fear of strong men to win her heart. But first, Thea must make peace with the past.

*** Placing a slightly different spin on standard concepts and weaving them all together into an engaging, yet lightweight read, Ms. Monroe has created a story her fans will love. ***

5.0 out of 5 stars I adored it!, March 26, 2006

This review is from: Touch Me (Paperback)
Thea is an independent woman, working with her Uncle she is a partner in their shipping company, Merewether Shipping. Thea meets Drake when his ship docks at the island she lives on. Drake needs a blacksmith to continue on his journey to London. When Thea and Drake meet it is intense for both of them. She has never felt what she feels for Drake. Drake is deeply attracted to Thea's beauty and unconventional behavior.

Thea needs to get to London so she asks him to take her. Drake reluctantly agrees, afraid that Thea will find out about his past. Thea is hiding secrets as well though. She longs to see the brother she has never met and she is determined to solve the mystery of the funds being pilfered from Merewether Shipping. Very quickly Drake finds himself not just desiring Thea, but admiring her as well. With Drake's help Thea begins the quest to help her uncle. In the process she finds a love she was sure she never wanted.

I adore Touch Me. Both Thea and Drake are such likeable characters. Drake is honorable, handsome and charming. Thea's innocence and intelligence make her endearing. I was completely taken with Touch Me. It has mystery, passion and romance. I really enjoyed reading each chapter's journal entry from Thea's mother as they enhanced the story. The epilogue brought the story full circle and gave it a wonderful feeling of rightness and completion. Touch Me is a heart warming story, one that you will be so glad you read.

4.0 out of 5 stars OK story, September 13, 2005
This review is from: Touch Me (Paperback)
This was an ok book. The plot was not complicated. The characters were entertaining. The story flowed smoothly, I just cant think of anything really special that made this book stand out. I liked the book, but it just didnt hit the right notes for me. There is nothing that I can pick out and say that I didnt like. But I cant think of anything that I loved either.
So, I do think it was a good book, I just dont think it was great. Good for a read, but I am not going to put it on my keeper shelf. It was good, but not spectacular.
