4.0 out of 5 stars 70'S BALLADS AT THEIR BEST!, October 11, 2003

This review is from: Touch Me in the Morning (Audio CD)
This was Diana Ross fourth album release in 1973, is a great example how Diana aproach with great class all the adult contemporary scene, the ballads include in this extremely sophisticated collection are totally relaxing and great to listen when you're just chilling, sadly is not that available anymore, is hard to find, someday they well remastered the album and will rise again in the catalog charts of Motown. None all the songs are bad so you should know what to expect. Great buy. Just as a reminder "Touch Me In The Morning" was Diana Ross second #1 single in the HOT 100.

4.0 out of 5 stars Diana Ross's excellent leap into Adult Contemporary, October 26, 2006
This review is from: Touch Me in the Morning (Audio CD)
By 1973, Diana Ross had already released three excellent albums: Diana Ross (1970) and Surrender (1971) were both pop-inflected soul albums helmed by Ashford & Simpson, while 1972's Lady Sings The Blues Soundtrack featured acclaimed renderings of jazz standards. But she had not yet tackled the sort of straightforward adult contemporary ballads that were growing in popularity in the early 1970s. It was essentially a new genre for her.

The Touch Me In The Morning LP really showcases her adeptness with this format. Certainly the title track earned fame when it topped the US Pop charts and made the Top 10 in the UK. But the remainder of the album is no less worthy of attention. "All Of My Life" and "Leave A Little Room" are among the most polished AC ballads Ross has ever released -- they are simultaneously breezy and powerful. Both feature some of the best ballad production in her catalog.

She also handles a cover of Marvin Gaye's soulful "Brown Baby"/"Save The Children" with remarkably emotive vocal delivery. It remains one of my favorite Ross vocal performances.

The ballads on Touch Me In The Morning, taken together with songs like "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "Last Time I Saw Him," "Love Hangover," "Mirror, Mirror," and "Good Morning Heartache," truly reveal Diana's ability to handle a diverse range of musical genres. TMITM is not only spectacular on its own, but it really underscores Diana Ross's versatility as an artist.
