From a technical standpoint, it is hard to think of a better guitarist than Angel Romero. I have read that people who are more familiar with the guitar literature than I am feel that he takes unwarranted liberties in his interpretations. That said, I greatly enjoyed this album. Some of the pieces are transcriptions by Romero, and to me they sounded effective. The highlights of the album are the works by Gaspar Sanz and Romero's father, Celedonio. Indeed, the latter's pieces inspire Angel to some absolutely ravishing playing, in beauty of tone and technique. The sound engineering is generally very good, although I felt that some of the body of the guitar's tone got lost in the hall's reverberation. Still, this CD is an excellent value.

A penetrating touch of romance with the best of musical tastes and brilliant, natural flowing vituosity.
