4.0 out of 5 stars As good as ever, in some ways better

This was a very pleasant surprise indeed.

2.0 out of 5 stars A little DISSAPOINTMENT, but still good!
Don't get me wrong, I'm a YELLO fan too! Most of this two star rating is for the Amazon OVERPRICE!! Come on... $54 for the minimum CD?!! I bought mine from poponaut.de. They have the single CD version (sold here), the Limited Deluxe Edition (CD + DVD), and even the double 12" vinyl version. So, since I am a YELLO fan, of course I bought the Deluxe Edition for $38. 4.4 stars

This was a very pleasant surprise indeed.

Boris Blank, a true genius and one of the real pioneers of electronic dance/trance music back in the late 70s and early 80s, is not only as good as he ever was, in some ways he's better. While not quite as thoroughly perfect as his masterpiece, Stella, Touch Yello has very few weak points and a whole bunch of highlights.

There's a ton of funk here, which has always been Blank's specialty. Not many electro guys can really bring the true deep funk, but Blank does it here over and over. Tangier Blue, The Expert, Bostich, Kiss In Blue and plenty more have a lot of propulsion and groove without feeling sterile and dry. It says that Boris played everything on the album, as well as producing it to typical perfection, and it seems BB has really learned how to play solid rhythm guitar, the extra edge that made all his classic albums so elastic. I believe Chico Hablas used to play the git for him, but Blank is as on it as Chico was, and that's pretty on it. This stuff makes me dance and smile and bob my head (and love my ears!). As intended.

The extra thing that made Yello so special, and still does, is the astonishing sound quality. From Claro Que Si's phenomenal Homer Hossa (if you like Yello and/or ambient/natural music, get that track!) to Stella's huge bottom end and the shimmering glow of Touch Yello, that's almost three decades of sound as good as just about any recording out there. This album will blow your mind in the car at volume, or on a really fine system. Many little bits of filigree pop up subtly here and there and on headphones it's quite breathtaking. In a dance club with massive subs, at 120 decibels, this will be something special indeed. Nobody makes a club system come alive quite like Mr. Blank. The man can convey atmosphere like few other producers.

BB's breathy new singer Heidi Happy--love that moniker--brings a nice feel to her tracks, and Dieter Meier is still Yello's other half, doing whatever he does (mostly lyrics and vocals, methinks)...but there's not much left to do once Boris is done with a track. Not every track is a winner; some are merely decent, and Blank's trumpet playing is not up to the level of his production, but in general this is a solid, very enjoyable listen.

When it comes to long-lasting, dependable Swiss exports, the Victorinox knife and world-class watches have a reliable companion: Yello.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious!, February 1, 2010

Whether an entrée or an appetizer, the master chefs that are Yello never disappoint. While it's true they are breaking no new ground, they have mastered their signature flavors in a way that, if you'll pardon the vulgarity, is positively orgasmic! They are like Junior's cheesecake! Always perfect!

Boris' obsessive/compulsive attention to details make me ashamed of my own work.

Yes, I paid too much for this cd, but I feel the need to enrich these guys- thirty years they have provided the soundtrack to my life! Solid Pleasure was the first thing I played in the new Walkman I got for Christmas in 1980.

I dread the day that Yello is no more.

Buy this recording!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Subtle Masterpiece!, January 14, 2010

This is a wonderful album by Dieter and Boris, in essence it's a blend of essential Yello mixed with Synth and Jazz - and the end result is quite superb. Factor in the penetrative lyrics of Heidi Happy, and you have an album of sheer quality, a perfect reflection of the awesome productive talents of the Swiss duo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth JAZZ CHILL in YELLO style...., October 21, 2010
This review is from: Touch Yello (Audio CD)
This is an ADULT Chill/Trance version of YELLO. Plus it's one of the best recordings ever. The boys aren't getting any younger.... Well here we sit 30 years later THIS is just what the doctor ordered, now that most us YELLO fans are coming up on 50....? I hope they do more like this in the future. However, I had to do a second mortgage on my house to afford the price of the CD at $40 for a standard import release :(

5.0 out of 5 stars Like single malt, August 23, 2010

I have most of the Yello albums and always view the new releases with trepidation. Slowly press play. Can they really live up to the pedigree? Some certainly haven't but Touch Yello is for me at least, one of the best. Volume up. Then up again. Wife is complaining. Smile on face.

Historic Yello signature tracks with female vocal artists (Bassey etc.) are often defining, but Heidi Happy adds such simplicity and depth with her amazing Billie Holiday style that you know this is as good as music gets. Sure, it's super smooth and not as edgy as yesteryear but neither is my favorite Scotch. That's why I love it so. Aromatic, lyrical, spacious, willowy.

What is cutting edge is the Touch Yello Concert Video. Super serious euro-art surprisingly presented with the lightest of ego. Almost self mocking but very hard hitting in its tight elegant, up to the second contemporaneity. Forget the ipod/headphones. Please borrow the best flatscreen/amp/speakers you can.

I can't imagine how Yello can distill the genre to a finer degree. For me Yello Touch is the defining album that, in Australian at least, is going "straight to the pool room". Time for another shot. Bravo!

'Touch Yello' is going to please long time fans. Too bad there is no domestic release, but that's what the Interwebs are for! Loved the tracks with Til Brönner - particularly 'Vertical Vision.' And yes - another take on the classic 'Bostich' with 'Bostich (Reflected.) Gosh I hope they don't take as long between releases as they did between 'The Eye' and 'Touch Yello.'

I've been a Yello fan since the beginning. They've gone through many changes and they seem to have mellowed some, but they've still got it!

The CD has 20 tracks! Here's the CD extra bonus track listing you won't get here...

15. X-RACE
16. PETRO OLEUM
17. OH YEAH 2009
18. UMBRIA
19. BOSTICH (DUCK MOBILE)
20. SCORPIO RISING

The DVD is "The Virtual Concert". Here's the DVD track listing...

1. INTRO
2. TILL TOMORROW
3. THE EXPERT
4. YOU BETTER HIDE
5. OUT OF DAWN
6. BOSTICH (REFLECTED)
7. KISS IN BLUE
8. VERTICAL VISION
9. TIGER DUST
10. TANGIER BLUE
11. OH YEAH 2009
12.THE RACE 2009

The DVD is pretty cool. The CD is alright... oh yeah... just alright. Maybe I need to see if it will grow on me?! Like many, I always look forward to another Yello release. For me, some of my favorite Yello CD's are Motion Picture, Zebra, The Eye, One Second, FLag, amongst many. I'm just a little disapointed to get a new Yello CD with about half of the tracks are so, so (my opinion of course). Favorite tracks are THE EXPERT, OUT OF DAWN, KISS IN BLUE (love the video too). There's more re-hash of the the older stuff... AGAIN! Could have had 3 or more NEW tracks, but instead got other re-hash versions like Bostich (reflected), Bostich (Duck Mobile), The Race 2009, and yet another version of Oh Yeah... 2009!! ... OH NO!!! (yet I have the Oh Yeah, Oh Six Parts 1 and 2 vinyls from 3 years ago, and love 'em!). When all is said and done... I guess I'm happy with this set and continue to look forward to future releases. And... look around... there's many places to get these for less than Amazon!!! ENJOY!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yello impresses, February 21, 2011
This review is from: Touch Yello (Audio CD)
Like many others here, I was made aware of the sonic landscape that is Yello with "New Mix In One Go", and have tentatively followed them as 'one of my favorite artists' ever since. When I first heard "Out Of Dawn" from the new album 'Touch Yello', and then "Stay", I had heard a continuation that was the fantastic sounds behind "I Love You", "Lost Again", and "Rubberbandman". Thanks to you Swiss Two, for this high-quality music!
