4.0 out of 5 stars 16GB MP3, MP4, MP5, AVI, FLV and more
I was looking at the Apple IPod Touch before stumbling across this little gem. It arrived today, uploading Music, Video and Photos was a breeze, contrary to what I've read earlier, this MP3/Video Player works great, no problems with videos not showing or any of the other complaints. This review is from: NEW 8GB 3" TFT TouchScreen MP3 / MP4 / MP5 player (Plays Audio & Video without any conversion Now!) (Electronics)
I did not want to spend more than $100 for a media player - IPod is out of the question. This player is the next best thing. After reading the reviews (this seller sells multiple products but they are essentially the same with different specs), I decided to try my luck.

So far I am happy with what I got. The description provided is a little misleading. Read below for the goods and bads:

Goods
- For the price, it has a lot of features. I like the music player, the picture viewer. For the video, it is reasonable. The sound of the player is very sharp and clear. You can use the speaker or plug in an earphone. The interface is quite clear and easy to use, but it is not the best. The player is small and light and can easily fits your shirt pocket. I believe the value that I get for this player is exceptional.

Bads
- The player doesn't play all AVI and FLV (although it says on the descriptions). I did not try RM or RMVB so I'm not going to comment on that. The player is very picky on the AVI and FLV. Depends on how the video files are formatted, you may not be able to get them to work at all. I tried many format using countless hours and I get file format error everytime I play the movies. I finally found 2 ways to get it to work. The Pazera conversion program ([...]) works well. For AVI files, use Pazera conversion to AVI. For FLV files, use Pazera conversion to FLV program and select YouTube profile. Otherwise, the video player just refuses to work.
- The touch screen of this player is not very responsive. You get what you pay for. There is no place to store the pointing device. However, you can always use your finger.
- The interface for the video is confusing. You can play and pause, but it is extremely difficult to fast-forward. I have yet to be successful to jump ahead in the video playing.

For those who wants a player and do not want to let Apple makes money out of you, try this product. There are other players out there that may be better choice. But most of them has either 2 GB or 4 GB. Everyone knows MP3 and Video files are big. Unless you have 8GB or better, you will be spending a lot of time copying and transferring files between the player and your computer.

I was looking at the Apple IPod Touch before stumbling across this little gem. True, there is no place to store the stylus, but then too, that's why we have pockets, or purses as the case may be. I also purchased the 4GB SD mini-card to expand the storage space even further, and it is simply amazing. I have 848 songs, 14,976 photos and 8 videos and I still have room to spare. Consider this you pay Apple $344.00 for a 16GB IPod Touch. You pay $62 for this baby, and another $14 for the SD MiniCard, it's a great saving. The only difference I see is I don't have access to the Internet, no great lost for what I need. I'm looking to buy more of these as gifts. Great work guys.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good technology, cheap player, February 6, 2009

PROS:decent processor chip, rockchip rk2706, plays most avi's without having to shrink, except mpg4's don't work. Decent sounding with the bass fx setting on. NICE big lcd.

CONS:YOU HAVE TO CONVERT, it WILL play most files but 90% of avi's are CHOPPY (especially new avi's drops down to like 20fps), and waaay to dark to see. I have to reconvert to Divx codec at 850kbps and brighten 16% and looks good and gets rid of almost all the chop except when it pans out to a large scene.Operating System is basic you can't set your own pics as background in menus, and you it only saves the last video position, you can't record FM radio, change font or anything special, basic equalizer, and no firmware updates, and firware is buuuugggy, touch usually works, but sometimes not with fingers, stylus works good. and lastly the whole case is cheap, as well as buttons,Don't drop ever.

Overall i am satisfied with the product. i baby all my stuff so i don't mind that it's a lil fragile, the silicon cover helps, for the price you get a good amount of memory, good lcd screen, and a powerful processor. but on the downside you still have to convert big avi files, and the battery life is like 2.5 hours for video, which sucks. Also the ICONS suck. google rk2706 firmware, i changed all my icons and put my own pics for background, looks way better, (OH YEAH almost forgot, the video button bar was pinkish red, more pink then red, until i hacked it, now its black, it was weird cause the music player button strip looks good and its a translucent black, but the video bar wasn't) i also just loop the stylus onto the headphone jack

2.0 out of 5 stars Leaves alot to be desired!, September 30, 2010
This review is from: NEW 8GB 3" TFT TouchScreen MP3 / MP4 / MP5 player (Plays Audio & Video without any conversion Now!) (Electronics)
I purchased this little jewel about 8 months ago. It works OK for what it is. It plays the files just fine and it takes awhile to figure out how to save the files so that you can find them for playing later. I have two major gripes about this player.

1. The instructions do not cover all aspects of the player and how to use all of the functions. They are very limited.

2. The touch pad portion of the player went belly up 45 minutes after I started using it. I can still access most functions buy using the control buttons on the front and top. However, if there is a function that relies on the use of the touch screen I no longer have any method to make any changes. One of these changes is the volume level. I don't recommend This unit to anyone!! It just breaks too easily! I cannot find any info on regaining use of the touch pad and there is nothing in the instructions that offers a solution. If I by accidentally turned off the touch screen portion of the player, there is no info for turning it back on.

2.0 out of 5 stars I had to return this product., September 22, 2010

The "NEW 8GB 3" TFT TouchScreen MP3 / MP4 / MP5 player" was cheap and seemingly convenient. If it had worked correctly I would have really enjoyed it. Instead I returned this product after only a few days. From day one the player didn't turn on easily, the screen would freeze or turn white and I would have to charge it or plug it into my computer to get it to work again. When I finally got music on it, I could never turn it on unless it was plugged into a wall or the computer and even then I had to use a paperclip to press the small reset button on the side. It had a loose screw on the bottom that stuck out and the screen appeared lightly scuffed all over the surface even though it was new.

The only way I would buy this again is if it came with a special warranty to cover all the glitches and manufacturing issues I experienced the first time I bought it.

If you want everything that an Ipod touch offers, including the price tag, then this isn't the player for you.

This player is considerably cheaper than an Ipod touch, but has some operational drawbacks. This version of the player was pretty easy to add videos, music, and pictures to. It would have been nice if other games could be added to the player. The player itself feels cheaply made and not solid. The button controls are a little awkward, but the stylus and on-screen buttons are very good. We haven't had any of the issues listed in other reviews with the battery or touch screen.

My son loves the fact that this player does most of what he wants and he was able to get other presents as well.

Excellent, light and compact player that is perfect for the basic uses of MP3 player, video player and picture viewer. I used the AVI Converter tool that came with an older Rockchip player I owned and ALL the videos play perfectly. All you need is a converter like pazera or handbrake to convert files into AVI and your set.The touch screen is responsive and fast-forwarding (and browsing files) is a breeze.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seriously impressed by this device., May 9, 2010

I bought this here on Amazon from Irockchip for $40. So, you are wondering; Can a device that cost so little really have all the features this thig claims to? Can a device that has it's manufacturer listed as "Unknown" be any good? Surprisingly, the answer is yes.

Full motion video, MP3 music, and a FM tuner as well! Sure, it isn't an Ipod touch, but you can buy 7 of these things for the same money as a cheap touch.

Just remeber, you are not paying for a Ipod, so you will have to do file conversion to make some things work.

HELPFUL INFORMATION FOLLOWS:

For Video, I used Handbreak (free download)to convert DVD VOB files to mp4 files. (Make sure you use the MPEG-4 video codec under video tab, else next step wont work) Next, I use Pazera mp4 to avi converter 1.3 (Another free download) to convert it to an avi. (This device only seems to play avi's, but that is fine it does a good job.)

In Pazera use the Xvid 1.2.1 codec and select 320X240 QVGA resolution. Be sure to check the "2 pass" option or the results will be jerky! Also, be aware that the resulting avi may not play on your computer if you don't have the right codecs, but it WILL play on the player.

For music files, rember this thing is NOT an ipod and will not play their evil protected music files. You will have to convert them or download them in mp3 format.

Some final notes:
I dropped this device 2.5 feet onto a stone floor, and it survived!
Mine had a few bubbles between the layers of the touch screen, but they were not too distracting.
Battery life is not great, I plan to pick up a usb battery powered booster/charger
I cant even guess at the longevity of this thing, but if it lasts 6 months I will be pleased.
