It's All You Could Hope For!,
By Alan White (Fishersville, Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Touchdown: Favorite College Fight Songs (Audio CD)
I had been wanting a CD that had all of the popular College Fight songs and I finally found it. The Florida State (Ugh) Band does a great job. The band does a great job of catching the authenticity of each song. For you Tennessee fans, the song listed is Pre-Game. You'll be glad to know that it's Rocky Top! Being from the south, all of my old favorites are there and done quite well. In addition to Rocky Top, there are great renditions of Yea Alabama, War Eagle, Glory, Glory(Georgia). National favorites of Notre Dame, USC, Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma...they're all there. If you're looking for a CD to play while tailgaiting or just riding to the game, look no farther.

THERE ARE simply not enough words I can say about this CD. It's so much fun to listen to them and really feel like you're at the game. I'm a Tennessee fan, but FSU's band delivers flawlessly. I have played this CD so many times that you wouldn't believe it!But why? It's not like all I listen to is instrumentals; all of my CDs are country, but I was so happy to find this one that I bought it as soon as I could. Standout tracks are, of course, "Rocky Top" (which is actually listed as "Pre-Game University Of Tennessee," but it's Rocky Top alright), "War Eagle," "Yea Alabama!," "Step To The Rear," and "Forward Rebels." Every song is played right on beat and, like other fight song CDs, they don't slow it down to a boring concert pace, but keep them at the same speed played at game day. If I wasn't a Tennessee fan who had to say Rocky Top was the best track, I'd say "Yea Alabama" might be the best quality PLAYED track. (It's a fun one to play too.). I can't say enough about this. I play it when people come over for games, or in the middle of non-football season (listening to it now!!). Buy this especially if you're a football fan, you won't ever take it out of the machine! 5/5.

I got this because I needed the Notre Dame fight song to have because I did some d.j.'ing at some of my high school athletic events when they didn't have the pep band there... and also because for some strange reason, college fight songs fascinate me. Very good job done by the FSU band, even on the Florida and Miami tracks, and congrats to them for winning the national championship. I only didn't give them 5 stars becaust they are simply JUST NOT the Hawkeye marching band when they play "On Iowa." I did like their sound a LOT, but its just wasn't quite the Old Gold and Black. It would've been interesting to hear them sing the "Iowa Fight Song" had they chosen that one instead of "On Iowa" Anyways, awesome job by FSU! GO HAWKS!

This is a great CD! I enjoy listening to them any time during the year! Besides my own schools ("Rocky Top" AKA "Pre-Game 1989") other good versions include "Yea Alabama," "Forward Rebels," "War Eagle," and "Step To The Rear."; could you tell I'm an SEC guy? LOL! But Ramblin' Wreck and I'm A Jayhawk are great too. Overall 10 stars if they'd let me! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

If you had a problem with the UofM version of your fight songs....you should have bought this CD. We are planning a sub-division "tailgate party" and this would satisfy the true fan. If they could expand to a second volume by adding the military academies and misc music used by all university bands it would be great. FSU deserves a round of applause for a job well done.ROLL TIDE!! Chris

The FSU Band captures the Spirit of all these songs. A magnificent job. I've heard most of these tunes played by their own school bands --- this FSU Band does a remarkable job matching the the Home Teams sound. I have never purchased the same CD a second time - this is the first. Hey, I need one for the pickemup truck and one for the home --- I think I'll get one for the car as well.

This is tops on the list if you want a great selection of some of the best and most popular fight songs across the land. The Florida State Seminoles - Marching Chiefs - do an outstanding job on this CD. From listening to the enthusiasm presented, one would believe that each song is played by their own university band. The tempo and rhythm seems to be right on time and lively. It doesn't drag -- it rocks. If you love college ball and the fight songs that inspire your teams to victory, this is a must on your list.

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT,

I just wanted to provide an anecdote about this recording...At the time it was recorded, I was a freshman in high school in Orlando, and a huge FSU fan. As I was in band, and our director graduated from FSU, I heard all the stories. Although they played every fight song like it was their own, FSU's most heated rival at the time was Miami, not UF. So it definitely bothered people in the band to have to play Miami's fight song. Most of the fight songs took one or two takes to get right. The Miami fight song took almost 10 takes. The reason is, every time they would get to the part where they sing, "M...I...A...M...I... M-I-A-M-I FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!", the band would yell "SUCK SUCK SUCK!" instead. Finally close to the tenth recording, Dr. Croft pleaded with the band and the version you hear is that final recording. ;-)

My 3 year old is always mesmerized by the marching bands during football games on TV. I bought this CD hoping it sounded like the songs do during the games, and it does. Also, it was here in 2 days - we love it!
