3.0 out of 5 stars good writing but the heroine:(.....
The premise, a female archelogist, great, right? The story started well, but after a series of stupid, naive and annoying events by the heroine (including shooting at the hero,to "scare him away" while he's on horseback in a chasm!?!) I gave up.

I will probably try this writer again, as she seems competent, but I cannot stand "too stupid to live" heroines...

I will probably try this writer again, as she seems competent, but I cannot stand "too stupid to live" heroines. Authors please take note-don't have your heroine do things in your book that you would consider reckless or stupid in real life.

The hero is fabulous so you may want to try this book.

3 stars for a good premise and a good try.

Touched by Gold by Kristen Kyle

Get ready to search for and explore all of the mysterious treasures that lie within the pages of this romping historical southwestern adventure. This story, which is loaded with bold action, narrow escapes and sexual tension, will take you on a fantastic journey through both desert and mountains in search of ancient treasure and mysterious medallions. However, keep in mind that the priceless discoveries that might be found may not be limited exclusively to their place in history.

Elysia, an English noble women and archeologist, is doomed to a future of marriage and tedium by her own promise to her father. In exchange for this promise, her father has given her one year and the chance to discover the "once in a life time find" that is every archaeologists dream. There is danger and deceit around every corner and it only serves to strengthen Elysia's determination to discover and preserve the ancient Aztec treasure before it is found and destroyed by the greed of her ex-fiancée.

Devereaux is honorable, patient and a gambler by trade with secrets that are best kept at bay. Getting the pretty Miss Ellie to trust him is proving to be the most challenging aspect of this adventure but a challenge that Matt is determined not to back down from. To honor the dying wish of his mentor and friend, Matt is also searching for the elusive treasure but has discovered that the real "find" lay hidden within his reluctant partner Elysia. Matt feels confident that with patience and determination he will break down her barriers that will yield the treasure of a lifetime.

Although this romance is heavily spiced with sexual tension the meat of the story remains with the well thought out plot and descriptions so detailed that they put you in the presence of the character. Kristen Kyle has proven time and again that she is capable of delivering an explosive story that does not shy away from the true grit of the setting. Treat yourself to the work of this master storyteller and discover for yourself the treasures that unfold.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, January 8, 2001

This review is from: Touched by Gold (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a great book. With a strong, sexy hero any woman would want to step out of the book into her life, a smart, level headed herione (no whining, no silly vapors), snappy dialogue, action and the interesting background of archaeology, this book easily won a 5+ rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of tomprow's supestars, January 2, 2001
This review is from: Touched by Gold (Mass Market Paperback)
In 1897 just outside Mexico City, archeologist Elysia Carlisle, works alone because men refuse to accept a woman of science. Currently, she is carefully excavating an Aztec burial site. Ellie shares every artifact she finds with her fiance Viscount Peter Wentworth except for the talisman she took off the remains of a priest. Peter, claiming he needs the return on his investment, steals everything and deserts his betrothed.

Instead of crawling home to her aristocratic father in England, Ellie continues her quest with the talisman she hid from Peter. She locates the companion piece owned by Matt Deveraux. Knowing she needs help and protection even after the way Peter burned her, Ellie joins forces with Matt. While he seeks the thugs who killed his friend Angus, she seeks the legendary Montezuma's treasure, but both soon find love changes the dynamics between them.

TOUCHED BY GOLD is an exhilarating historical romantic adventure that never slows down for even a paragraph. The story line is sort of a late nineteenth century Romancing the Stone, complete with its action and passion. Ellie is a believable heroine struggling in a sea filled with outraged chauvinists while Peter is the "wicked" rogue who willingly would die for his beloved. Kristen Kyle provides a vivid description of the time and place to supplement her wonderful lead characters, leaving her audience with a wild thrilling ride.

4.0 out of 5 stars What a great story, May 3, 2001

This review is from: Touched by Gold (Mass Market Paperback)
I will read almost anything that includes a reference to archaeology. They occasionally disapoint, but this one certainly didn't. The characters are well drawn and sympathetic, the situations are absorbing. I was sorry for this story to end. Thank you Kristen. Please keep 'em coming.
